[ROM] ACE ROM v2.0 (No Further EC05 Development)

Would you like to see the CIQ Removal in the next release of ACE?

I believe having journaling on slightly decreases the useful lifetime of the internal memory, due to the number of read/writes, similar to how a solid state hard drive has a certain number of total read/writes that it can do. (Someone please correct me/clarify this as you see fit)

Edit: That being said, for people who have issues with ROMs that have journaling off, it's well worth it.

That may be, but in all practicality, unless you plan on using this phone for many many years and never upgrading, I seriously doubt you will ever have to face that issue.

Looking forward to your release.

Is there anything more than a theoretical speed advantage by having journaling disabled? Or, is there a noticeable difference in speed? Obviously having journaling enabled would make the system more stable, but how frequent is this safeguard really put into play?

Really in all reality your not going to see a speed difference between journaling enabled or disabled. No journaling they say is better for prolonged chip life of the device but we will probably never see a chip/memory failure even with frequently flashing and usage for the average 1-2 yr lifespan that most users keep a device before upgrading. There was much debate over this when journaling disabled/enabled was brought into play. The journaling enabled version I feel is alot more stable simply because you can have those occasional fc's or battery pulls that would normally cause data corruption if severe enough on no journaling versions. My personal experiences now using journaling enabled for a few weeks is excellent, during testing I had lockups requiring a battery pull and even used the old soft reset (VOL UP+CAMERA+POWER) which would be a ultimate NO NO, on no journaling resulting in data corruption but on journaling enabled it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Its all a matter of preference which you like to run, but lately it seems much demand has come for the journaling enabled version so that is what I currently have running very successfully so that is what will be released in the coming day(s). I'm having an issue with app installations causing boot loops to happen on the no journaling version so until that is resolved I will not even consider releasing it.

Thanks. That makes sense. I recall this being a big issue many years ago when I worked with the SunOS pizza boxes. I suppose the OS is more robust now, but same principle I assume.

How do I "delete" some of my "backup/restore" points in CWM3 ? I've been trying a few different ROMs/Themes over the past couple of days and just want to keep my first 2 "restores" and delete the others before I get ready for ACE 2.0

Just delete them when you connected to you computer "Mass storage" on your sdcard

They will be in a folder called.

"clockworkmod/backup"

The filenames are coded with the date/time stamp in them so you can figure out which is newest to old.

THX - just wanted to make sure I didn't mess something up = still eagerly awaiting ACE 2.0

Actually the only thing I'm waiting on is the new custom boot animation that Cyber Warrior is working on for me. I waiting patiently, like anything if you want it done right sometimes you have to wait. It looks pretty sweet so I think you will all be pleased with the outcome. He's about got it wrapped up so hopefully either tonight or tomorrow I can post the "journaling enabled" version
:) :) :) :) :)

SWEET ! Great News ! By the way - Cyber is supposed to be working on a wallpaper for me ... guess I got bumped back a bit .... LOL. I would much rather get ACE 2.0 before my silly wallpaper.

No disrespect Paul- but we're waiting on a boot animation? I thought those were flashable no?

Sorry to be so antsy, but some of us are still on DK28 waiting for this build!

I know Bonsai and maybe SRF had some 3g data cap removed- does this build account for that as well?

Paul, we can't wait...please buddy- "Release the hounds!!"

PS: if you're in Los Angeles I'll buy you and Ragnarokx dinner anytime for all the help!
I'd have hated and given up on this phone months ago if it wasn't for you two!

Yep were waiting on a boot animation and I'm just running a final test on the build to make sure everything is working properly... I want it all packaged up and not have to make anyone download a boot animation flashable. Actually I'm glad I'm waiting because I just found one more "visual" bug I need to fix real quick..

I know.. Trust me I will be happy once its out and then I'm gonna go hide before the complaints start coming in.. LOL...

Until then, enjoy the new OP for the thread.. Our forum administrators have given us some new toys to play with and I think its looking very sweet to go along with the new release...

Ragnarokx is west coast (LA area) and I'm Chicago...

+5. I will be using the journaled version immediately upon its release. Coming from the linux world (still in it), I can tell you that journaling has saved my *** through a few power failures. I really am surprised to find so much focus on the no-journaled versions of ROMs, especially on a mobile device we all rely on. It seems extreme to me, and you gain little benefit and a whole lot of heartache.

Now, for instance, my phone freezes hard lock every time I try to open a webpage! I JUST installed this ROM a week ago! I cant wait until a journaled version of ACE is released; the sooner we have a solid journaled rooted bloat-free lightly-tweaked ROM like Paul has made since the first release, the sooner we can get back to USING our phones instead of reflashing every 3 days due to some new issue..

OK OK we'll have to wait = it will be worth it. ( on a side note - LA and Chicago , huh ? ... guess I'm the only one from Texas = Go SPURS Go ! .... sorry , just sayin' ... LOL )

LOL! I'm from the Chicago area (well suburbs) Live out west now. Send me a Lou's Pizza while you're at it!

Plainfield- I was quite a few miles north. Born in Skokie, raised in Wheeling/Arlington Heights, last in Crystal Lake- we kept moving northwest along the I90.

Still miss that state. Don't miss the extreme summers (over 100+humidity!) or winters (-92 with the windchill one of the last years I was there!).

Beautiful state though and great people- amazing junkfood. I could live off this website's food: Lou Malnati's - Tastes of Chicago

Back on topic- are we there yet?:D
