Long press on the power button should bring up the shutdown menu within a couple seconds. Continuous long press I'm not sure what happens...

Thanks for showing up LJ. Been awhile since we worked together on TER.

worked together is a loose term, considering I didn't do too much at all =P . I do like the camera icon in ACE v2.0 though, reminds me a lot of sense ;)

Hey every little bit of input that you and I gave to Ragnarokx helped him create a solid ROM. Sometimes its just that one simple thing you do that can make a worlds difference with a ROM...

help with restore -TER to ACE

I'm switching my rom from TrulyEpic Rebirth 1.5 to ACE 2.0. I'm going from DK28 to DI18, then to the latest update. I'm sure I can't update from DK28 so I guess this is the easiest way. I'm not sure when to convert it the filesystem though. Before using Odin, or after? I haven't seen much posts talking about going from a rooted, modified filesystem to stock, and then remodded. I'm doing this primarily to fix camera lag and stability issues. Do I need to do anything with CWM before anything?

Since your coming from DK28 you will need to get on either EB13 or EC05 so... Best option is... This will save you the most hassles...

Thread below, choose the Slightly Modded EXT4 EC05 Tar Prerooted Deodexed Zipaligned Png Optimized - version and then all you will need to do is having ACE ROM v2.0 ready on your sdcard to flash. After you complete the Odin process, boot up one time then shut down and go into CWM. It will complete the EXT4 conversion and then you can wipe 3x and flash ACE ROM.
Stock Pre-Rooted Deodexed Zipaligned Png Optimized EC05 Tar 4/7/2011 Fixed Both Tars

Hope this helps, report back if you have troubles...

thank you for the quick reply! unfortunately I was in the proccess of dl'ng DI18, so I have to wait 1 hour to dl PLUS 1 hr to actually dl. in addition to what you said, are there any instructions on the ACE thread that is relative to my situation? I may be a little off, but do I have to use odin? do I have to update CWM? again, thanks.

If you follow the instructions you pasted above, then all you need to do is flash the ACE ROM after completing an initial boot/shutdown and reboot into CWM which will finish the EXT4 filesystem conversion.

As always, if problems just ask and either I or someone else will work you through the problems..

should I use the .pit file I originally used to flash the epic? I hope there are no such thing as dumb questions on here...

If your doing the EC05 version for Odin I suggested, then no .pit file is included with the package so no... Only use a .pit file if it is provided in the Odin ".tar" package you download.

The pit file is basically instructions for the file partitions and according to the dev that did the Odin packages I referred you to for EC05 he claims no .pit file is needed with his packages.

Paul, just wanted to add a couple issues I've had crop up:

Was running great for a couple days, but earlier, I went to connect to WiFi, phone locks up, I battery pull, and when I turn the phone back on, it can't scan for wifi networks again. After that, the phone would randomly reboot every 15 minutes or so. Ended up eventually swapping the battery and that worked for some reason. Later this evening, though, the phone locks up again while I'm using the browser. I battery pull, and the phone keeps locking up. Eventually, it locked at the boot screen, and when I finally get it to reboot, all of my sync'ed data (google contacts, FB, etc) is gone, and I have a neverending syc icon on my notification bar, and any app I try to open just FCs (fix permissions fixed that), however, now it seems all the apps I had moved to the SD card are no longer there.

I'm not sure what's up with my phone, but could all this be caused by the Twilight Kernal? I know it's hated me in the past...

It could be jd195, I know I have really been putting this thing through the paces and aside from a few random lockups here and there its really been solid. When I say lockups I've had maybe 2 lockups while texting over the last 2 days and I think one lockup on shutdown which others have had also but nothing to really warrant saying there is a specific problem.

Hey,

So I'm about to flash ACE 2.0 and I'm coming straight from ACE 1.7 with EB13, EXT4, all that stuff. I got my phone about the same time 1.7 was released and rooted it before I had any apps or anything on it. So my question is about backing up the apps. Do I just move them all to my sdcard? Or do I just need to back them up using "My Backup Root"? Ive never had to do back up apps before!!!

So tell me if this sounds right.

Download EC05 modem

Download ACE 2.0 with journaling.

Move both to sd card via usb cable.

Go to my backup root and backup everything

Go to clockwork, flash ec05 modem

Wipe everything 3x

Flash ACE 2.0

use my backup root to restore all apps
Is that right???

Yes everything sounds good.. On the apps, I would strongly suggest just doing a data only restore after you manually redownload the apps.. Even then there has been evidence of random conflicts with restoring data from previous flashes. I would take it slowly on the restores, maybe a small bit at a time so if something does go sour you know roughly what is causing the issue.

Ok so 1st off the connected/disconnected error on wifi that I had? There's no proper error message for incorrect password! I thought I used a case sensitive password- turns out I don't... once I corrected my login with the proper password- my wifi connection issue was solved. Bummer there's no error message to say incorrect password...instead of connected, disconnected with no rhyme or reason.

I fired up wifi tether ver 3.0 pre3 (yellow icon) that worked on DK28 and this ROCKS tethering to my ipad. I can stream video on android central- oddly the same video on youtube stops occasionally. Go figure- but DK28 I was never able to view video well- so this is BIG.

Despite this being a journaled build- I've had numerous partial wipes after reboot: removals of all my widgets and folders. Odd to say the least. I never recovered data or even all my apps. I did recover my launcher pro settings and my folder organizer settings...that's it. Can't imagine that's the problem- but who knows?

Paul- the stock battery mod- I can't imagine it freeing up THAT MUCH RAM! Before the stock battery icon- I was constantly at 180 or below- now, I'm around 220? What else can we strip out to free up more ram? I love the black transparent notification tray- but if we take that back to stock do we get more ram savings too? LOL? Also- I thought my total ram was listed higher with DK28... it says 220/338 on the ram manager tab... sounds low? why would that be?

Well now that I have wifi and tether sorted out- I'm much happier. Curious about flashing perhaps a different kernel for improved battery life- (and yes I did later calibrate-but I really don't think that does anything)

Really would like to see some form of flashable to fix the data cap though...if that could make it on to a wish list somewhere. Forget the other battery mods if they kill RAM- but data cap fix- that's a no brainer (unless there's some instability issue I'm not aware of for that one)

Thanks much!

Just wanted to report that I'm having lockup issues with 2.0. It's not catastrophic, but rather annoying so far.

I "upgraded" from ACE 1.7 late last week and with the Twilight kernel, seemed to have lockup issues every time I was in the market. There were a few other lockups, but at random apps/times. I've tried minimum re-installs with the only data restored being my call logs and SMS's with no change. Never over-clocked or touched the kernel settings.

Yesterday I switched to the Vision 1.1 kernel and thought it cured the lockups, but I opened the camera and had a lockup as soon as I went into the gallery and then another one soon after re-booting.

Something is just a little fragile yet...

I am getting the same thing. I have actually reflashed the ROM 3 times (wiping each time) and I am still getting quite a few lock-ups. I probably get one per hour and it is very random happening in different apps etc...

I highly suggest you guys with freezing issues try a different kernel; my experience has literally been without error so far on Twilight kernel. I had some freezes on genocide kernel when trying to undervolt, but none otherwise..

This does sound like it could be kernel related. Seeing how I didn't really modify to much in the ROM and it has ran reasonably well for lots of people the few that are reported having issues with lockups should consider using different kernels. Plus many of the kernels now are set to run at 100-1000 mhz, my device doesn't handle 100 mhz very well and a few weeks ago prior to even building ACE ROM v2.0 I started running my kernels at 200-1000 mhz and it is alot more solid/dependable now.

I would start by bumping that bottom number on the CPU settings to 200 instead of the 100 mhz and see how things go, it may resolve things for many as some phone just don't like waking up or idling at 100 mhz..

From there shop around and try the different kernels available, Twilight/Vision/Genocide/Baked Snack or even pull the Bonsai kernel and flash that if your more tech savy with those type of things..

I'm not saying ACE is perfect as no ROM really is but there is a small portion of users reporting more than "average" lockups or FC's than should be happening. Plus seeing how its so random and not isolated to any one spot/app that leads me to believe even more that it could be kernel related.

Only 1 reported area, the occasional lockups on shutdown I can confirm this has happened to me and a few others otherwise eveything else has been very random and sporadic.

Hang in there, try experimenting a bit and you may surprise yourself..
