Re: [ROM][ALPHA] quattrimus CM9 (ICS)

I played with the hardware accel all day and still couldn't get it to work. My first try was actually the best -- at least things didn't crash -- but it was pretty much unusable.

I think I'm going to have to back off on that and go back to software rendering for now so I can make progress on other things. I'll definitely have an update on Monday, but without camera or hardware accel. This will give me time to sync with current CM and work on other things.

No rush, we appreciate all your hard work, on this, and I'm sure we all would rather you take your time and get it ironed out then rushing a build release. Right Gang?

No rush. A working ROM is more important then a nine working one

No, not yet. This is a brief overview of where I'm at and what I have planned for Monday:

I have hardware acceleration almost working but it's still flaky enough that it's pretty much unusable. Things don't appear or disappear at the right time, screen transitions sometimes don't complete, that sort of thing. But I did play with it enough to see that the basics work and angry birds was playable. So it's promising, but not there yet. I tried all day yesterday to fix it but was unsuccessful. So I'm going to put it down for now and look at other things.

I have the camera far enough along that the app fires up but I haven't actually gotten any pics yet. Somehow the actual video data isn't being passed out of the hardware. So again, promising, but not there yet. I'm much more hopeful about being able to fix this because I deal with these sorts of issues (Linux kernel driver issues) all the time at work.

I got the xt_qtaguid module into the kernel. This enables network stats functionality and populates the data usage graphs (system settings -> data usage). Not that us VM users care, but it's a nice touch. :)

MMS is getting farther with the xt_qtaguid module but it's still not turning on 3G while on WiFi. So I need to look into this further. Shouldn't be a huge deal to fix but will probably take a day or two of debugging.

I synced up with the CM9 tree about 2/29 I think. Several issues are fixed, including the numeric battery indicator. I'll probably sync up again on Monday before I do a final alpha7 build.

I'm going to put back a couple of the gapps packages that I had previously removed. I personally like GenieWidget (news & weather) and there's been a request for CalendarGoogle.

This is probably a stupid question...but can someone explain to me exactly what hardware acceleration does? From my understanding, it has to do with video, games, and maybe music? Does it have something to do with the video card? :-!

Please keep GenieWidget for future updates, that's one of the only stock Widgets I use at all. Thanks for the update, as usual I'm gonna play the waiting game and browse around for different roms in the meantime :)
