[ROM][AOSP][4.0.3] Codename Android 1.5.5 [Full Open Source]

Codename 1.4.0 loving it. It has been amaZing. Love the battery life. Great job devs.

I cannot stand 1.4.0....I may roll back.
Battery life is worse, TB FCs, actually a lot of apps FC after fresh installing of the apps.
I appreciate the efforts, but think that the build up to this release was just like the Nexus release :)

I may abandon ship, haven't decided yet.

Side note, using nova launcher, I am using a theme that makes the circles for grouped icons transparent but if you update from v13/14, they go away...I guess the developer would have to update their Nova theme no?

Is it safe to assume you did a full wipe before installing 1.4.0 and did not restore any system data?

Anything else you flash over it, even a Nova theme (especially one not made for the current version of Nova you're using).. can be a cause of apps misbehaving / FCing. Once you flash any mod or theme over a ROM it becomes very hard to try and diagnose what you're seeing.

There could also be minor things with the kernel that you can fix easily.. The voltages it came set at were pretty aggressively undervolted. In Performance settings if you go to voltages and uptick them all by 25-50, or at least the lower ones, you could definitely solve some issues. Alternatively flash the newer kernel I linked to a few posts back as blueharford upped the voltages in that already. Or just try a different kernel, one kernel is never going to be the best for all phones, sometimes they don't agree.

Myself and most people don't sound like they are having any of those issues though, and my battery life has been pretty great too. Even if you did follow the right procedures you could have gotten bad download or just not had it flash right, things happen. Hope you can get things straightened out!

I just installed this rom, and everything seems to be great, but I can't make a purchase out of the market. Any ideas?

Just an idea... pull up market's details (settings>apps>find market..), clear cache, data, then hit Uninstall Updates. It should revert you to market 3.1.2 or so.. Idk give it a shot it can't hurt.

there is no uninstall for updates..

Your not seeing the button on top right like here:

If no, what version is it showing?

force stop/ disable and clear data/clear cache
And yes, its 3.4.4

Idk why you are not seeing that option. Was just an idea though.. Probably a bug with the market/gapps package. Hopefully you can live with it for a while until the next version? Just buy apps through your computer.

I know you aren't the only one who had that issue, so I'll see if anyone else was able to find a fix and def relay it for you if I hear anything.
EDIT: But not tonight, I'm sleepy :\

Is this based off of 4.04 or that hasn't been released yet?

As an AOSP-based ROM, it is not based on 4.0.4 source as the source has not been pushed to AOSP - and may not, its looking more and more likely that the next version that will be pushed to AOSP will be 4.0.5 in the next month or so... but hard to say, that's still conjecture at this point.

However this DOES include 4.0.4 proprietaries / gapps.

:)

EDIT: Tony did you see my post from last night, trying to help troubleshoot the issues you were having. Let me know how things worked out.

EDIT 2: For the record, using 4.0.4 gapps and the 4.0.4 radios that are available.. I don't think we're missing much else or rather, would have anything more to gain from having the source based on 4.0.4. Most opinions find the system to be much the same as 4.0.3 anyway. People who have used it coming from 4.0.2 have been impressed, but those using 4.0.3 ROMs like us really don't have much else to gain from 4.0.4 :)

Thanks for the response.
I did flash a nova theme but haven't installed any nova updates since doing so....
everything seems to be working now. Even battery. Full charge at night before bed...watched a 6 min video....went to bed..woke up did some foursquare check ins and sirus listening.

Extended battery is at 54%....so I guess that is good.

Yeah.. battery is so dependent on SO many different things... Some quick tips I follow and I've always enjoyed pretty great battery life:
- Flip wifi on whenever possible, but when not using it turn it OFF as you don't need it on in the background.
- I don't use auto-brightness.. I set the brightness toggle in the pulldown to jump between Dim, 25% and 50%. Between those settings I can see my screen fine whatever the lighting situation, and it pays off BIG for your battery to keep it set as low as possible when you can stand it (dim, in this case).
- Twitter / facebook / etc I have set to receive push notifcations but only sync data on demand or every 4 hours, basically as long as you can delay them.. those ho's are batt killers! (esp fbook)
- Similar with my weather widget, I use beautiful widgets.. I've set my location in it so it won't keep searching and I set it to only update every 3-4 hrs.. If I NEED something more current I know I can always open it and refresh it on demand.
- If in a weak signal area I switch to 3G only.. weak signal areas with LTE enabled will MURDER your battery. Often I just disable LTE anyway if I don't plan on using much data/streaming and would rather save the batt life.
- Disable GPS from the pulldown whenever I don't plan on using it. Bluetooth as well, LDO.

That's about all the major stuff I can think of for now.. I regularly can get well over a day on a full charge, or say 2-3 hrs screen on time, more depending on brightness levels, etc... but of course, I can kill a battery in a few short hours if I'm going crazy and just not putting the phone down, lol. Anyhoo hope some of that might help, and glad that otherwise things are working better for you now.
:)

Hi,

i had some problem with the installation of that ROM.
I tried to install it on my Galaxy S (GT 9000) from yur precedent ROM (1.3.3).

I followed these instructions:
(1.backup)
2. wipe reset/factory from recovery
3. flash ROM from recovery.

That was the message:

Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "toro" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "toro"
E:Error in /sdcard/Codename-Android-(MOD)-1.4.0-GN-CDMA.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

So I had to restore the 1.3.3 version...

I'm not expert, but i think that the new ROM (1.4) is not good for the Galaxy S.

May someone help me, please?

Thanks

Lindo

i have the same issue, but I have a Verizon CDMA Samsung Nexus, and I have installed many versions of Codename in the past. Any idea what may have gone wrong?
Strange thing is I just tried to install an older ROM that worked in the past (Codename 1.1.1) and that is giving me the same error. Am I getting this because I installed the 4.0.4 radio?

Exactly what recovery are you using? Probably caused by that.. I recommend using koush's official touch 5.8.0.2, grab it from here: ClockworkMod ROM Manager - Recoveries

Scroll to find Google Galaxy Nexus (CDMA) and grab the touch version. Hoping you know how to flash in fastboot? :)

but are you changing to only 3g via the settings and choosing cdma network as opposed to lte/cdma?
My signal has just been bad and I am in an excellent spot, so I wonder if it's the device itself.

Lol yeah, well I use the LTE toggle in the pulldown which does the same thing.

Honestly, its very possible you're just not in as good a signal area as you think you are. For example, my situation: Geographically speaking, my work site should be in a better signal area than my apartment, especially with respect to LTE. That's not the case though, I get a much stronger signal at my apartment than I do at work. I determined parts of the reasons: Used the app Open Signal Maps to discover that my apartment is closer to a cell tower. Also I theorized that the apartment being on top of a hill helps too.. as my LTE signal actually drops considerably if I go to the corner store or bar that are at the bottom of the hill, lol.

Within those finding.. I've even realized that where I SIT at work is a crappy signal area.. I would switch between 4G/3G sitting there and rape my battery if I didn't switch to 3G only, and even 3G will drop here and there.. but if I leave my area and move just 5 FEET or so over, I can get uninterrupted 3G signal, and about 5-10 feet further I get clean 4G.

Get my drift? lol

you are the man! i had version 5.5.0.4 touch recovery installed. when i heard about the final version, i just assumed it was the same and never upgraded, nor did I install a ROM previously on this touch version. that as the culprit indeed. thanks again!

in options, interface, general settings, what does COMBINED BAR do? seems like an option for tablets from what i have read...

I believe that's accurate, been some people asking about it. I think the option is there as a relic from the tablet version. Haven't bothered to ask codename but I'll try to remember to bring it up next time I talk to him.
