[ROM] Bonsai4All v2.0.1

Just flashed it actually. I'm glad Mammon fixed the boot sound - it used to abruptly cut off. I might actually keep the boot animation and sound this time. I'm looking forward to seeing if his new scripts improve battery life.

Ragnarokx is there anyway for us to manually turn on the Setup Wizard? I noticed while downloading the rom from devs thread that the Setup Wizard is NOT enabled on first boot. Mammon waiting on more requests to add it in.

Waiting on answer before I install (don't want to manually reinstall over 30 apps! LOL)

Update for Bonsai4All v1.1.2:

Mammon's EXT4 MOD (Should increase your speed by 15%, ONLY FOR EXT4)

Information about the MOD: This mod will turn off journaling to your ext4 partitions which should increase your systems speeds by 15%.

WARNING: Turning off journaling makes your data more susceptible to getting corrupted, although the risk is small.

Disclaimer: No promises that this will work for you, or that it won't corrupt your data. Try this at your own risk.

To install:

1. download the MOD here.
2. extract and run ext4-mammon.bat

I put the zip on my SD card, went to clockwork and did a backup of my current data. Wiped all stuff (data, cache) and flashed the new zip. It installed no problem. Noticed all my stuff didn't get installed with the new rom (a bit obvious when i thought about it). So I rebooted into recovery and did a restore of my file I backed up before the new ROM.

It seemed it restored my entire old ROM and data. Can I get some dummy help for this? I want the new ROM but all my old craps still. What did I do wrong? This is only my 2nd attempt at flashing a ROM

Anybody get mammons ext4 mod to work? I'm gonna try it later today just wondering what the feedback is on it? For those who did it any sped increase that you notice with this? I noticed a good bit when I did the ext4 to my phone. Just wondering if mammons ext4mod you can notice the doped difference. Thanks

There is, but I just flashed the themed version of Bonzai and the Setup Wizard was on when I first booted. Maybe that was a typo?

When you go to Back and Restore, try the bottom option - Advanced Restore. This way you can selectively restore things, instead of a complete restore.

Just installed the ext4 mod, and I really haven't noticed a difference. Granted its supposed to be like 15% so I wouldn't expect a great visual difference. I ran Quandrant before install 1604, after install with a few reboots to settle everything in 1606.

Installation takes under a minute. No problems, on first attempt.

Have to follow this mod on devs thread throughout the day and see what Mammon and others are saying about it.

What program do you use for Back up/Restore?

Version 1.1.3 is out. Support for clockwork 3.0.0.5!! For those that don't know there is a new clockwork version out now. It uses Edify scripts now. Check it out. Must use ext4 now.

Just finished porting the CWM 3.0.0.4 recovery.
Some notable changes are the following:

•Auto EXT4 conversion system. If a partition is found to be RFS, but referenced in recovery.fstab as ext4, the system will AUTOMATICALLY convert the filesystem, backing up ALL data on the partition, and restoring it after. This may still have kinks, so if you run into any problems, simply flash your rom over it.
•Removal of Amend script. This is a HUGE change for everyone using the update-script method to create flashable .zip files. ALL developers should begin using Edify scripts (updater-script and update-binary). I will post a few examples of common things below.
•Color contrast changed from green on black to orange on black.
•New mounting system. Partition types are no longer required to be compiled into CWM, and are instead detected from /config/recovery.fstab (Modified path to work with the redirector)
Notice: DO NOT INSTALL UNLESS YOU WANT EXT4!!!
http://efragtv.com/android/OneClickRootCWM3.zip

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Unzip to your desktop.
2. Go into your phone and Go to settings->Applications->Development and turn on USB Debugging.
3. Now double click run.bat in the folder you unzipped. (If you are on linux ./run.sh from the folder)
4. Wait for everything to happen.
5. After the phone reboots, you can either use adb reboot recovery/quickboot OR the three button method.
6. Enjoy CWM 3.0.0.5
7. You may need to wait for more roms to support the edify script setup. Quantum Rom 2.7 is uploading now.

See post #2 for Edify examples vs the old Amend style.

I was using ClockworkMod Recovery

However, I ran into a bad problem this afternoon.

I installed the new bonsai, I installed the ext4 deal, reflashed the new bonsai and everything worked great. However, I was w/out all of my data from as I learned it you have to use the recovery to get your data back onto the phone.

I tried to recover my data using the advanced restore option and that is where I realized I was screwed. It would not restore any of the data because I assume it was backed up under the Samsung file system and I now have the ext4 file system and it cannot find the folders to put the data. Bummer

I then tried to run a full restore of the old bonsai with my data and it gave me similar errors. I now cannot get out of the bootup ClockworkMod Recovery green screen. I can't get my phone into download mode to run Odin and my eye has begun to twitch from being w/out using my phone for the past 8 hours:confused:

I was able to restore my apps+data from Titanium without any problems after doing ext4. I just do it manually, because I havent bought the Pro version.

really? maybe something went wrong then in my install because I was going from Bonsai 1.0.4 to Bonsai 1.1.2. Hmm, well I just hope I can make the phone work again.

Is your phone still not working? If so, what is the problems so we can try and help you out.

I was able to get it into download mode now but I'm getting and error in Odin
<ID:0/007> Added!!
<ID:0/007> Odin v.3 engine (ID:7)..
<ID:0/007> Can't open the specified file. (Line: 1224)
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Not sure what file that line is in. It's the same files I used a week ago to use Odin to restore my phone back to normal. I'm trying different USB ports and I have the factory, Samsung USB cord that I am using also.

Just to clear things up you are attempting from download mode to Odin back to stock Eclair 2.1 correct? Once your on EXT4 you have to Odin back to stock to get out of it and/or fix any major issues and start over again if you chose.

If this is the case then double check your files, make sure they are the correct stock .pit and .tar files needed for Eclair, so far it seems like your on the right path to getting out of this.

I'm using the DK28 file. sph-d700-dk28-8g-rel.tar. Should I be using the DK17 file then? everything else was downloaded from the first post in the [How to] Factory Restore thread. I'll try with the DK17... well that file isn't there anymore.

I'm going to try this method Odin Stock Flashing.

Aye aye aye.

Update: Seems like I'm getting a DK18 file from the above link.

Yes go that route with Odin. Go back to completely stock form.

Sorry to hear that btgoodlin. Before I update my phone I'm trying to get as much information as possible so I don't screw up any of my data. That's why I'm looking for correct ways of doing things but the information is so scattered and overwhelming that it makes it hard for me to put together.

Haha, I agree. I think that's why I busted my phone again. Stuff is all over the place.
What have I discovered? I like the bonsai rom's top pull down menu over the stock, I like launcher pro, and that is about it. I haven't been able to or tried any other roms yet.
