[ROM] Bonsai4All v2.0.1

Hello, I wanted to give this ROM a try, especially since it notes that you will have 400+mb available after clean install, but had 1 question. I'm currently running SuperNova 1.5 and love the theme.
Does anyone know if the SuperNova theme will be compatible w/this ROM? Or if, in most cases, themes are limited to the associated custom ROMs?

That is a great question ShaLea. I've not taken the time to dig around and find out what the actual difference is between themes and ROMs so I'm waiting for this answer too. I did notice the new 1.1.4 is currently a themeless version of Bonsai. Perhaps I'll wait for the 5 hours for it to download today and try to flash this new version and see what I can see.

ShaLea, you could go and download the Bonsai "Leafless" version which should be striped down and then goto SuperNova's thread at XDA and I noticed he has his different themes available to download. You could then download and flash one of those themes after you flash Bonsai. Note: Boot up Bonsai at least one time before you flash a theme.

BT, ROM is a image of the operating system. It is the complete package. The OS, apps, themes (if included), everything. A theme is simply a download/flashed installation of new wallpaper/ring tones/themed apps/different launchers/icon mods. Basically whatever the developer of the theme has put into the package, but it is not the actual operating system. Also when flashing a theme, normally a wipe is not required.

Just remember when flashing themes, sometimes things don't always react well afterwards. Occasionally there can be FC's or things won't work well but that is getting to be less of a problem as most devs try to make their themes work with any ROM as long as its filesystems are compatible.

2 questions regarding the installation process:

1) I believe I'm on CWM 2.5.0.0 (version prior to 2.5.1.2). Must I upgrade to 2.5.1.2? If so, is there a link on where to get this upgrade? I don't think I'm ready to install CWM3.0.
2) I just wanted to confirm the term "fresh installation":
--CWM
--Wipe/Factory Reset
--Wipe Cache 3x
--advanced -> Wipe Davlik Cache 3x
--Install update.zip (DK28)
--Reboot
--get a good GPS
--power down -> reboot CWM
--install Bonsaii 1.1.4
--Reboot

Is this the "Fress install" processes?

Thanks so much. U guys are great!!!

If your currently at CWM 2.x.x.x and want to run this new Bonsai 1.1.4 which requires the new CWM 3.0.0.5 then go here below and follow the steps. It will take you from where you are currently to CWM 3.0.0.5 and your ready to flash the new Bonsai 1.1.4.

Epic Lag Fix: RFS to EXT4 (Now w/Clockwork v3.0.0.5)

NOTE: Goto [Procedure] and download OneClickRootCWM3.zip

OK I took the plunge and upgraded to EXT4, CWM3, and am using this ROM. It's great so far. I really love the memory - after approx 35 apps that have been installed, i'm only consuming 177mb of usage. Thats so much better than my previous ROMs which were using approx 400mg of space w/just a few apps. I was a little scared that the GPS took a while to lock - about 3-4min on a fresh start, but once the phone was up n running, it got a lock relatively quickly.

UPDATE: Very cool: my Quadrant # is 1959 . I assume that's good. Now I just need to know/understand what this number means.

Thanks, I'm running Bonsai 1.1.4 w/Midnight 3.1 AOSP Lock theme & love it.
Response time on this baby is awesome.

Glad to here it ShaLea. Concerning your Quadrant score, I personally don't understand them fully but I know even the dev's themselves don't base everything off those scores because they can vary so much. 1959 is awesome, but the real question is hows your phone? You say its running good and fast... Thats about all that matters really..

Hey, what kind of battery life are you guys typically getting with this ROM? How does it compare to Baked Snack and the other ROMs that are supposed to be great on battery?

I haven't notice any significant decrease in battery life compared to the other ROMs that I've used. Oftentimes I also charge my phone during the day to make sure that it doesn't die on me when I have a long day at the office. But on days that I forget to charge, it get at least 9-10 hrs w/about 20% remaining battery life.

Hope this helps.

Ive gotten similar battery life. Probably 10 hours to moderate use.

But my question is if anyone has been having any problems with their apps dissapearing?
It seems when I reset my phone all my apps except 3 games uninstall including the newer google maps.
Tried wiping cache and delvik cache nothing works.

It may just be my phone tho, so don't beware the rom.
Lately my phones capcitive buttons have been flaky too.
For a couple days they didn't work. Flashed this rom, they weren't working then start and stop on occassion

Just for everyone to note... head over to the XDA forum and read the directions for installing this new version of Bansai. No wipe needed with this rev, it just installs right over the top of the old version using clockwork 3, no Odin or anything else needed... Pretty slick install, everything including my preferences re-loaded without any input on my part...

Can you provide a link? thanks :)

The link to XDA is the first post of this thread, but here is the direct link to the install instructions from the developer page Install - bonsai - Installation Instructions - Project Hosting on Google Code

Have had the ROM running since yesterday, no issues so far including GPS and bluetooth on my phone.

As to the question of battery life with the ROM, I got around 10-12 hrs with the old rev, right up until I installed JuiceDefender (for the night time and weekend scheduling options). I am getting at least 2x now, but no heavy use days yet so can't comment on hard days.

anyone having trouble running pandora radio? kept on having to force close due to app not responding.

How would you all compare Bonsai to TER??? I like what I have in TER but im interested in this one as well.
