[ROM] CleanROM DE 1.4by Newboyx 8/16/12

Awesome update...only issue is now when charging the battery indicator doesn't move like it normally does when charging. The blue seems to just stay at the bottom of the battery until you unplug it. Not a huge issue, just a little quirk. Thank for all your hard work!

I noticed this at first. For me it would usually pop on after a minute or two.

I've yet to root, but does this ROM correct the Multi-tasking issue at all?

I kind of want to see if they develop a way to achieve S-OFF with the OTA, because I wanted to back-up my stock ROM w/o having to wipe everything due to the HTC Dev Unlock but the multitasking is sort of driving me insane.

It doesn't officially fix the multitasking, but due to a lot less background processes it is a bit better. There are a few multitasking fixes on xda, but the real fix will be when we get updated kernel source and get some custom kernels to truly fix the issue.

Thanks.

Excuse my noobness to the inner-workings, but hasn't HTC released the kernel source for the E4GLTE? Wouldn't that be sufficient to either fix the issue or at the very least port an ASOP ROM to the phone where all of the features work?

I strongly doubt that HTC is going to fix the issue, no OEM has had a good track record of correcting things they deem as not being problems sadly.

I will check when I get home, but I think they released kernel source for 1.13 not 1.22. I could be wrong.

The kernel source is not the full OS. It is the code that communicates between the OS that you see (Sense), and the actual hardware. So yes, having the kernel is going to help, but it's still going to take some time to 1. understand how the kernel works as written, and 2. figure out how to modify it so that memory management is fixed. And it's not a simple plug-and-play to get it working with an AOSP ROM (AOKP or CM9/10). The devs are working on it to be sure. We'll start seeing some progress in the near future.

It was the 1.13 kernel.

Thanks,

I write software for a living, so I do understand that it takes time since they essentially have to reverse engineer the code. I just wanted clarification on the kernel being the "missing link" and that HTC released it.

Now since they released the kernel for 1.13, does that mean anyone that is on the OTA is essentially up the creek? As of now there seems to be no way to revert to an older RUU that I've seen and no methods to turn S-OFF after the OTA.

Re: [ROM] CleanROM DE 1.1 by Newboyx 7/26/12

Just flashed CleanROM last night.

[Batch restored all my apps/data via Titanium, but some ROM apps (calendar/clock) kept crashing. Re-flashed the ROM, re-downloaded all my apps from the market, no more conflicts, so far...]

The good stuff:
- I am stupid happy about the camera button waking the screen (Also, love having a menu button again).
- The current status bar looks great (except the battery indicator, which I'll get to in a moment).
- Everything seems to fly on this ROM. Just solid.

Some issues:
- The battery % indicator is a bit too small for me to read, even when I really focus on it.
- Like a previous poster mentioned, my battery bar doesn't move at all while charging.
- Battery % indicator doesn't seem to adjust real-time (fully charged, surfed the net for 20 minutes straight, battery still read "100").
- No Swype :[
- No easy way to switch between keyboards (the ONLY thing I liked about stock Sense was the keyboard switcher in the status bar).
- Also mentioned previously, auto-brightness leaves the screen a bit too dim.

Finally, I'm still trying to find a ROM that lets me toggle GPS with a single click on ICS. Only the stock Power Control widget seems to allow this :/

All in all, this is better than the other ROMs I've tried so far. Well done, and looking forward to updates. Thanks for your hard work!

Thanks! I should be will be addressing several of those issues in the next update.

I would recommend everyone to use es file explorer to delete Google Wallet from sys/app and install the new version available in the market. I was previously using the hacked version from before it was allowed to be used on our phones. I didn't have a reason to switch to the legit version because there was nothing to gain. With today's update to the app it is much more functional. The upcoming update to the ROM will be using the version from the Play Store, but I thought you guys might want to use the much improved version now.
Instructions :
Reset Google Wallet (Menu - Settings - Reset Google Wallet)
In ES File Explorer settings enable Root Explorer and enable Mount File System
Grant ES File Explorer SU access
Exit out of settings
Click the Favorites icon on the top left of the screen
Click on the phone icon
Navigate and click on the folder labeled System
Now click on the folder labeled app
Navigate to the Google Wallet app
Long press on the app and select the option to delete and confirm deletion
Reboot phone
Now open the Play Store and search for and install Google Wallet
Enjoy the new found freedom of using any card you want.
You can ignore the message in the app that says unsupported device, the app will function properly (I bought some cookies from McDonalds about an hour ago).

PS...
I have 1% battery working

I asked this over on XDA but wanted as much input as I can get.
Has anyone tried this with the AwesomeSauce kernel?
Impressions?

Re: [ROM] CleanROM DE 1.1 by Newboyx 7/26/12

Changelog 1.4
All data setting are off by default. You will need to turn them on if you want to set everything up. This includes Mobile Data, wifi, and NFC. I will have this fixed in a future update, I just ran out of time on my mini vacation.

Working 1% battery!
Fixed Kindle app books not opening
It is now easier to set a default keyboard in settings
AOSP settings menu! (thanks to Art2Fly for this!)
Google Now (as always mikeyxda is the man!)
Thanks to t.o.m. for showing me the build.prop edit to remove the extra menu icon (we have a menu button, it was kind of pointless)
Jelly Bean Fonts
New boot and down animations by Team Clean contributer e.t.heil! You should really check out his work http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1706861
Some other stuff, but I don't really remember (I should write this stuff down)
There are a few things that we tested that were not quite ready for prime time, but they will be soon.
Thanks to my testers

Just flashed this update. It feels pretty zippy, I like it. Still playing around with it though, obviously.

Quick question, can I change the default font? Not wild about the Jelly Bean font, so I'm hoping this is customizable. Thanks!

There is an app in the market called Font installer or something like that that can change fonts. When I get time I can make a flashable zip with the old fonts if you want.

Thanks, I'll install that app tonight, looks good.

Camera question: I like the silent shutter, however, your mod seemed to take away the video/camera toggle, as well as burst mode, when accessing the camera via the hardware camera button. Also, after taking a single shot, I'm taken back to homescreen, instead of staying in the camera app. Is this by design?

Not sure if this is how CleanROM modded the camera, in general, because the missing features I mentioned are intact when I start the camera from the app drawer. But, then, I did install a mod to give me the Sense 4 stock camera, so that could be why the two ways of accessing the camera seem to be different.

That's just how the camera is set up. It not by design as much as it is by limitation. If I recall correctly this is the same way the camera functions in stock if you launch from a shortcut (the camera button). It will behave the same way If you launch it from the lockscreen.
99% of the time I launch it from a shortcut on my home screen dock.
