[ROM]CM10.1/PAC-rom jb 4.2.2 The JBC alpha build

Well, those links are to int2ext scripts - they work by moving most or all of your /data partition to a separate partition on your sd card. They require a reasonably fast and large sd card (partition shouldn't be more than ~20% of the total card space) and they can be notoriously picky about sd cards - old material will tell you that class 4 cards tend to have the highest random read/write speeds, but from what I've seen of newer cards speeds can vary wildly across manufacturers and even across different batches of seemingly identical cards
(SanDisk class4 cards still tend to be reliable afaik, but some new faster class cards aren't as useless as they used to be - old high class cards cause trouble though, most are not good at writing small files)

All int2ext scripts require that you boot the rom at least once (preferably twice) before flashing them.

They also require an sd-ext partition formatted to ext2/3/4

The roms in this thread don't contain another apps2sd or int2ext solution, so you can just flash one (the next boot will be longer)

Reverting int2ext solutions is rather difficult - make a nandroid first!

The Plus versions keep settings data on internal storage - more secure, faster if your sd card isn't very fast, less susceptible to bugs - but certain apps that like to consume space inside their app data directory (the default Android browser, for example) can make space management rather annoying...

Also, obijohn's scripts in this thread keep some very small bits of other information on internal storage - in theory this might help with some of the random bugs that tend to be associated with int2ext script usage on some setups, like random data drops and such...
(they're designed specifically for these roms, I think? I use them for other roms too, but changed a few things...)

(ejecting your SD card while the phone is running will also crash your phone when using these scripts)

If you have a slower SD card, or this all sounds far too complicated, you might consider try Link2SD instead - the essential functionality is similar, it moves apps to an sd-ext partition, and it has similar requirements to int2ext script usage, but it functions through an app lets you move individual apps to the sd-ext partition, rather than moving everything.

Link2SD isn't as difficult to revert... but you should still make a backup before trying any of this ;)

(and apps on your sd card will be unavailable when it's ejected, but your phone shouldn't crash)

UNREAL :D this ROM is ill flashed a28 but kept getting the error999 code then did a fresh wipe and flashed PAC in and yo thekraven this is stunningly beautiful :)....just got a couple of things not huge issues but some of the screens kinda don't fit...fixes? aside that my hat goes off to you and all who helped.

I think you're referring to the Paranoid Android settings?

The defaults showcase the features nicely, but phone/tablet ui and dpi modes are configurable in Paranoid Android settings - and tablet mode on such a tiny screen can feel like not everything fits at times?

two things i've been getting a update from goo for this ROM ...is this a update?...Also i've been experiencing lag in everything also just started getting system ui process shut down....could it be a performance issue or is it something that i haven't corrected or turned off? Thanks in advance

edit: btw this is the version i have PAC_JB_4.2.2-v22.0.1_20130414-042136.zip
Edit2: running 600/480 smartassv2 still a lil laggy ..any advice?.. Different kernal? Maybe

Check Xda. I run this ROM with ProjectXtreme (without entropy version) and CrossBreeder (both on Xda). No lag and phone runs buttery smooth.

Overclocking usually helps with snappiness too (and battery life on these phones...)

Proceed with caution when overclocking, do everything in small steps, do tests, have lots of backups, keep a copy of a backup externally... etc etc... you are playing with fire!

Anyhow, the folks over on the V forums showed off how 768/480 Interactive is supposedly the most battery efficient setup, in addition to being a nice performance gain over default settings.
(assuming your phone can run stable at that speed...)

PS: InteractiveX has a screen off profile... which the very detailed V battery thread seems to indicate could slightly decrease battery life when using the phone with the screen off (music?)

At stock speeds SmartassV2 should act very similar to Interactive, but when overclocked that will change ... don't know how that change interacts with the math about battery life - but snappiness can be further improved (imo) by raising the ideal and wake frequencies to the same value as max freq
(they're set at 600, but they don't scale with max freq, separate values)

Wow what a improvement good looking out

For further development, follow bigsupersquid's kernel thread for the 3.0.8 kernel. It boots and most everything functions, triple buffering and even bluetooth. The only big issues are charging and power functions as the thunderc is different than the P500. The new kernel and an updated jbc rom probably won't be released till things are more stable.

So give bigsupersquid thanks and donations for keeping development alive.

hey, the "JB 4.2 gapps" link is no longer working. Also, how are you installing the rom? I can't find a version of clockworkmod that is availible for this model.

Con't help with the gapps, but there are several recoveries for the S. Search the forum for recovery, and several should come up. I've been using theKraven's build of TWRP 2.2.2.1 for a long time, and it's great. Xionia is also popular.

Looks like thekraven updated the links, not sure what you were trying to get, but should all be there now...
(also, there's been a bunch of work on armv6 / non-neon 4.2 gapps by other people, some very recent work turns up on googling "non-neon gapps", but I haven't gotten around to testing it to see how much is working)

As for recoveries, Xionia is a bit dated - newer developments that retain some of its features can be found in ZenGarden Touch Recovery and Cannibal Open Touch Recovery.

bump.
if you want bluetooth functionality at the cost of accelerometer, compass, and battery charger notification, you can try out my alpha build now.
Just be aware that it is still alpha until all the hardware works.
I've been using it on my daily driver for long enough that I consider it stable, just imperfect.
You'll probably want to swap home/menu keys for the Optimus S. My keyswap zip needs tested.
edit:
a tester told me bluetooth audio doesn't connect. beware.

Experimental builds for use with bigsupersquid's alpha kernel. JBC build 3 for the 3.0.x kernels. CM-10.1. The included kernel is older and unstable build, so you will need to flash the updated kernel above after flashing the rom.

Build 4 JBC with updated kernel, wifi sleep and wakeup fixes, wifi hotspot might be working, taking photos might be broken, just needs a revert , Goo.im Downloads - Browsing For
-- already has sprint keypad and updated kernel. So just flash the rom and gapps.

Build 3 JBC as 6-26-2013 includes an old 3.0 kernel, with HALO Goo.im Downloads - Browsing For ... flash rom, kernel, gapps.

Build 2 JBC without Halo cm10.1-20130614-thekraven-LS670-experimental2-novatek.zip ... flash rom, kernel, gapps.

As noted above, accelerometer, compass, and battery charger are not working yet. The above roms only work with the 3.0 kernels.

To install, flash ROM, flash kernel, flash Gapps. You may need to flash his OS sprint keypad zip to swap the home and menu buttons. STill ZVD based.

Here's how to use halo Paranoid Android's HALO - Overview - YouTube

Of course, I just flashed an older build to use squid's new kernel. Now I have to flash all over again! I wish I could have problems like this all the time. ;-)

No problems so far with the new kernel though. Everything that's supposed to work works great!
