[ROM][GINGERBREAD] CyanogenMOD 7 Nightly Builds.

@ the stig - which kernel is packaged with 12?

i just flashed to 11 this morning. so far so good but i haven't done much today.
probably go to 12 tonite.

Man, that sucks. I can understand it want to stick with stock, but another option could be to try cyanogenmod 6.1 . As a released version, it may be a better fit with your less common usage since they've had more time to iron out the kinks with wifi and such.

When my current usage cycle ends and my 3g limit resets I might just do that. I was originally going to use 6.1 because it's the "stable" ROM, but I ended up going with 7. Can anyone tell me how well wifi works with 6.1? What is this I've read about needing to update your radio to use 6.1? And does 6.1 have any other bugs or issues I should know about beforehand?

There is a new kernel with build 12. Mostly just updated modules to work with 2.3.3.

I added a little information on the smartass governor to the OP, as I've noticed it creating quite a bit of confusion lately. I would also like to remind everyone to please read the OP all the way through before asking questions. Thanks to everyone who has made this thread so awesome! We have more then 300 posts and 8,000 views on this thread! Let's see if we can't make the front page :)

It's still slayher's 2.6.37.1 kernel, just some changes to either enhance imporvement or to conform to 2.3.3 standards. There was not a lot of detail in the Submit ticket. I've been using it since he folded it into the build pre RC1. It works verry well.

Thanks for adding this in there. I tried looking around on how to use the new kernals but I am very new at the rooting thing...less than 1 week...and especially kernals. So say for instance, I flash the incredikernal...will the kernal flash alone help with battery or do I need to tweak the performance settings?

Just wanted to add this to the conversation: this rom is making me care less about the thunderbolt every day (in fact, i hardly think about it anymore). I might still get it, bc it will probably get cyanogenmod shortly after it comes out anyway, but cm7 is Awesome. And it's only getting better with every release.

So much I would like to add to that statement but I'll just say I agree!

Sent from my INCredible phone

ran #11 for a day and a half, and it seemed really stable, until i powered down, and then i got stuck on the white screen for a few minutes, did a battery pull, and to be on the safe side restored my nan of 11.
afterwards, i flashed #12, and so far it is also very smooth. I see the theme-color-coding of widgets etc. Not noticing anything else has changed tho.

I am not Flashing any more nightlies until they have more of an effect on the incredible... the last few flashes have only dealt with NFC and 4g devices.
SO.... please keep us posted when that happens.

again. i know where the Gerrit Codes are but the are chinese to me and I don't speak chinese :)

Actually, it's Java... a small Island in the Pacific, but you're in the correct hemisphere! ;) LOL

Which kernel could you posibly recommend for me ? and why? pros and cons... I am flashed with #11 and use .37incredikernel... I mean I am happy with it, but is there something better out there?

You'd be the guy to ask ;)

Frankly all the major players are good; it just becomes a function of battery life and performance/preference. One can argue Chad?s vs Incredikernel, but it's really all about what works for you. I was using Invis's/slayher kernel for a while for the smartass function, but it wasn't being updated so I went back to stock and haven't really switched around other then to just check out the excitement about one kernel over another. I didn?t notice a performance increase between the two but the smartass did save battery.

Now with that said I have a 3500 battery so battery is important to me but not an obsessive factor. Try them all out and then stick with the one you feel works best. Quadrant scores don?t mean anything so don?t obsess over those. We?ve all seen kernels that give outrageous Quadrants and the phone runs like crap. Pick a smooth running kernel that gives you the best battery. If the developer is not keeping up with changes in the baseline kernel, then switch again.

Sorry it?s not a more definitive answer but sometimes these things are as much art as science, and the ?feel? is what really matters.

Hope this helps in some way! ;)

It does help, thank you... I have tried alot of kernels and am happy with the one i am at as far as battery life goes (thats the main reason i use them). but since I am at 11 is there a newer version of that kernel that I don't know about or does your previous post (#325) just apply to #12.... Also I wish I could get a bigger battery but I have an OtterBox case and I don't think it would fit in the case if I got the new batterY :(

The changes that were made in #11 to the kernel were not major, mostly housekeeping and minor stuff. The alternate Kernels will usually update shortly after the baseline updates with a significant change.

You can drive yourself nuts obsessing over “did I miss something?” Remember, you’re running software that most of the rest of the smart phone world only whishes they were running, and sometimes it’s bloody on the cutting edge! ;)

I am so glad this was brought up but I still have a few more questions. What happens if I set my CPU Max very low...will I just get poor performance or can it do damage...also, when switching from kernal to kernal is a cache and dalvik wipe all that's needed...from my understanding this is correct

What do you mean SOMETIMES its cutting edge... IT IS CUTTING edge... of all the android users in the world... I bet only a small percentage know about CyanogemMod nightlies... I feel so bad for them... they are missing out.

It's funny because I try to talk to people when I see them holding a certain android phone about it and they just look at me like i am a nerd or crazy. they have no clue what potential they are holding in there hands!!!!!!

of all the people that have droid phones, i bet 99% of them have no clue of the capabilities they can do, and prolly most of them dont even care.

If you set the CPU too low you will start to experience wakeup problems and other app issues on wakeup. If you do have problems, just set you min CPU a little higher. It won't hurt the phone, but it will cause a headache or two if it's set too low.

Yes Cache and Dalvik is all that's needed for Kernels, just like nightlies.

Oddly enough, I have my CPU set at 128Mhz and 960Mhz... I have never had any problems (thankfully)... Like I said in a prev post, my phone is running better than when it was stock! I find the Nightlies very stable... I can wait until they finalize the nightlies into one Great package and considerate stable. (if possible, which I don't think it is) but would be nice.

the slayher that came with #12 has given me crazy battery life today, 10 hours of lite usage and i still have 73 percent left. not even going to charge it before i go out (almost never happens)

edit
set the way smartass gov comes normally, no adjustments
