Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

So far 2.1 is working fine for me, except I apparently have a crappy processor and if I even OC it to 652 I start getting artifacts and crap... oh well stock speed it is :(

That's not a CPU issue. Its a known issue across all ZVH ROMs running GingerKernel and nobody is really sure what causes it. I have my theories but they're just that - theories.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I might suggest doing the factory reset and then wiping and flashing again. It seems like some people have had luck that way. If you need to revert, there is a guide in the zvh rooting thread.

Just to clarify (and so I don't brick my phone) you're suggesting I do the following:

1. Do factory reset from the settings menu.
2. Use my bootloader and wipe both cache & davlik cache
3. then flash grom 2.1

Will I keep the root after reset? Also, after I reset & wipe both caches, should I allow the stock to boot up, before rebooting and installing grom 2.1? There's no chance of bricking my phone by following the steps above, right?

Thanks for helping a (relative) newbie! :)

Did you configure rom updater as the OP suggested?

Sent from my LS670 using Tapatalk

I did. That's why I'm confused. The ROM updates show but nothing for the themes. :'(

Hmmm, i just checked mine and i still get the rom and themes ect. Perhaps reboot and try again. If not perhaps someone else has suggestions.

You could also try going to settings > aplications > rom updator and clear data and cache. Then re configure the app.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Here's an update on my gROM experience...

I had been using sROM until Monday when I decided to finally step up to GB & install gROM. For the first 24 hours after installation, neither my email or Gmail showed notifications or updated (within the app). After that it seemed like smooth sailing for the next day or so.

For the past 48 hours though, my phone has descended into nonstop problems. All the sudden I'm now getting non-stop "sd card has been removed" or "sd card damaged" errors (exactly like we had when the phone was launched). Additionally, my phone is now rebooting every 6-8 hours. PLEASE HELP!! At this point I wish I had just stuck with sROM, but I don't know how I can easily get back to it, since I've flashed into ZVH.

If no one else is really having the problems I am, can you please tell me how to erase everything and try a fresh ZVH flash, root & install? If others are having this problem, is there an easy way to get back to the VD baseboard, root & re-install sROM?

Thanks all!

To me it sounds like you did not do a full wipe before you installed. That will certainly cause the issues you are seeing.

I would to. The issue he is seeing is from a bad flash.

Your SD card could be toast.

My phone just started having problems with push email. I wouldnt get gmail anymore unless I manually refreshed. Settings were set correct too.

The issue started happening after I installed the custom colored email/sms icons theme. After I installed those, gmail updated itself and stopped syncing. Uninstalled the last update and now I got email push working properly. I did notice that when I installed that theme, gmail showed up as if I had updated it, you know, the "this is whats new" screen showed up. Maybe that theme needs to be updated?

Note to all, disable automatic updates for google apps.

Ahhh, Good catch. I will try to update the themes to be current with what I have in the ROM. The themes would cause this because they are based on older versions of the gapps. Good catch!

Nope, boot to recovery and do factory reset, then flash ROM. Yes, you will have root.

I know what my theory is. Sprint just likes to f with us!!!

I think so too! lol

Yep, thats what I would do!

Awesome, it worked. Thanks you two! It turns out the gROM server wasn't showing, I just had the other two. All good now!

Yeah, thats because when I was testing out the set up I was just pointing the app at my Evo 3D server. I set it up for final release and also a day later switched web hosting providers... Somehow the OLD files go copied over (the test files) and the new files never made it. So when you set up the ROM you were in that time fram e from switching hosts to realizing it was set up wrong. Some on pointed it out after they tried to flash some Evo 3D stuff. They weren't happy with me. Then in turn I was not happy with my host. But yeah... Its all good now!

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I just got a "new" optimus from someone on Craigslist (for explanation, see this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...ne-now-sd-card-isnt-recognized-most-time.html). Anyway, once I get it on ZVH, rooted and with custom recovery, is there any reason why restoring a backup of gROM I took from my old phone would not work? Are there any caveats or gotchas I should know about?

I figured there would be no problems, and as expected there were not. Thanks to all the guides on this forum I'm now back running full-speed with gROM.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Hmm. Something is still broken. I cant get gmail again unless I sync manually. I noticed that Jorte and calwidget did not update overnight. This morning they were still saying it was yesterday.

Last sync time was 10/14 at 6pm for all items! Calendar, contacts, gmail.

Toggled Background data, auto-sync, gmail sync, etc.

Any ideas on what to try?

I'll try to replicate it tonight. at work right now and phone is not nearby. But let me ask you this... Overnight are you on WiFi or 3G?

If it helps any, I've been having the same issue since GB was rolled out by Sprint. When I updated to gROM 2.0, I thought the sync issues had magically gone away due to gROM and Gingerkernel, but they came back and still occur on gROM 2.1. I only use 3G. Rolling the phone back to Froyo with Sprint's official update fixes sync, except that it's Froyo. If I am actively using my phone, sync seems to take place. When the phone has been in screen off/standby for longer than a few minutes, sync doesn't seem to occur. It's like the radio/data is turned off when the phone is in standby for some set amount of time, even though I still receive calls and texts.

It would be awesome if you could figure it out since it wasn't acknowledged as a major problem with the GB update on the Sprint forums last time I checked.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I think i left it overnight with wifi on. That mighy explain why nothing synced over night. But, i did go bac k and forth between gmail versions, sending myself emails. After a few hours i stop getting email push. Just tried it and still nothing. Ill try restoring the backup i made before installing the color icons.

Dude, thats exactly what I thought was going on. I dont use this phone much but I have it set up to sync one gmail via wifi. I also noticed that when the phone is idle for long periods it doesn't sync until screen comes back on. I only noticed this just a couple days ago.

Hmmmm... As far as fixing it.. There are a lot of variables involved. First I need to gather more data from you... Is it just those programs that dont sync? Gapps related or do you have any other programs that fail to sync timely?

We both see it, on wifi and 3G so that eliminates some differential. On my Ev0 3D there is like a power save option that stops sync from occuring as well as peak time settings. Have you had a chance to look there? Maybe there is a toggle that needs to be thrown for full sync?

Let me know what else you find out.

I, like you, dont think its gapps because the same gapps work fine on 3D. So it has to be in the OS / kernel itself. I am going OS with this one. SO its fault OS or screwed up settings...

Also, I am hesitant to say that I don't think everyone is being affected by this. The number of people posting the issue would be much higher.

I have google voice not syncing issues. I dont know if others have this issue or not.

Hmmmm... I see. Interesting. Maybe this is related to gapps?

Is there anyone who is having a sync issues that is not Google app related?

Try this:
Menu Button -->
Settings -->
Wireless & networks -->
Wi-Fi Settings -->
Menu Button -->
Advanced -->
Wi-Fi sleep policy-->
Choose either:
Never when plugged in
or
Never
(Default on mine is "When screen turns off")

Edit:
Oh, I see you were using 3G. This likely won't help much then.
