Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

So i had made a previous post..... well not previous. more like DAYS ago. but to be more specific its on PAGE 78 POST #780. Scott and i think its something ya'll should look up at your willing to do so that being said i'm just going to post my resolution. BASICALLY i had moved all my wanted files to desktop and did a format of my SD long format as in un-check "quick format". when all that was not needed in the first place but i didn't know. all i had to do to complete my backup FULLY! was to boot back into recovery CLEAR THE CACHE and just go back to the backup option. WHICH WORKED OUT WELL!. but like i said PAGE 78 POST #780 TAKE A LOOK

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.0 - 10/5 - GB 2.3.3 - O/C'ed - ROM Updater is

Has anyone had this issue?

I'm on my first day of gRom. Did a full wipe/reset prior.

Every once in awhile my screen will shift to the right or left, and the right side of the screen comes about a quarter inch on the left side. I tried searching the thread but couldn't think of a keyword to search.

I toned down the OC to 712 max. Rebooted. Battery pulled. Not sure what else to do. thanks

My S is still doing this. I've disabled animations, cranked down the overclock, wiped reflashed multiple times. I may have to try a different rom :( I love this one, but can't deal with the screen shift and flickering all the time. Maybe it's just my handset?

This is a kernal issue, not rom specific. I was having it with the stock rom before flashing gROM. You can try flashing a version of gingerkernal prior to v6 (that is when I noticed this issue).

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

I never saw the issue on the stock kernel. I will push an update out via ROM updater to revert to stock kernel for those whose device is affected by GingerKernel.

It only happened once, and only since v6. But the screen sensitivity issue is much better and with v6.2 it only has happened once.

Hmmm I could try that.

Ok, I'll wait for that. Thing is, this is the first I've seen it since I flashed gRom. I was previously running ThundeRom and ReBorn without issue. I grabbed a screenshot app to take a snap when it shifts over, and the screenshot image comes up as if there isn't a shifted video problem.

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Hmmmm.... I am not sure about what causes the charging issue. Thats normally a kernel level issue and I am using Drew's kernel based of stock source so I dont really know. You can try it but I never had any charging issues from day one. LMK!

In reply to this issue, take a look at this thread. http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards/general/lg/topics/optimus-s-charging-issue
LG has released a "fix", but it looks like it's in the form a a ROM. If I flash the file they talk about at the bottom of the thread I will lose gROM, but if I am not using their old faulty ROM why is it still acting up after switching to gROM?

Should I flash their update and then flash back to gROM?

No the "update' you are referring to is actually a "downgrade." It puts you back on 2.2.2. They did that while they try to fix the issue in Gingerbread. You see, not everyone has the issue. It only affects some people so this is the work around, for now. Once the they fix it in Gingerbread I will update the ROM. But who knows when that will be.

Hmmmm... Oh well, cant win them all :(

No problem charging over USB for me.

Off topic, but I bought an Acer Iconia a500 tablet this weekend.

Some people have charging issues after upgrading to ZVH. It's a known issue. I know you don't have it, but for anyone else reading, I hope it helps!

Good choice! I've had mine since August and haven't opened up the laptop but maybe 3 or 4 times. What do you think of it so far?

Re: [ROM] - gROM 2.1 - 10/8 - GB - OC'ed - Infinite Possibilities

Is it possible to decrease screen sensitivity?

I wonder this too, mine has seemed a hair too sensitive. Trying to long press often times results in a single press and triggers an app, unless done very deliberately.

~~~
Anyways, what I was wondering is if we might be seeing app2sd any time soon? (Sorry, I know you are busy as hell, and doing a terrific job might I add, but just curious).
The screen sensitivity can also be attributed to the kernel and possibly a tweak I did but I don't think the tweak would cause that. I can make a patch if you are willing to test it. But I am thinking its more of a kernel issue. Not sure 100% though.
A lot of issues people see with the stock ZVH update I dont see. Some see them some dont. For example, my phone charges perfect on USB, just like Mikes. Some people cant. Why? IDK! lol
As far as Apps2sd I will incorp that in the next ROM although... I don't like the idea of it... I will make two versions. One with and one without.
I'm working on my main device and work on this one when I bored with the 3D so you wont see another update prolly until at least this weekend. Not sure. Just take it as it comes.
Just curious, why you don't like the idea of it? Potential cons to it? I haven't actually used it, it just sounds neat, based on what I've read. Also, how does this differ from the 1gb internal mod thing that was being talked about some pages back? Sorry, for all the questions. :P
Appreciate all that you do, no rush, Scott. :cool:
Anything special to flashing the stock kernel I need to know about? thanks!
If you are overclocked or using any sort of script that incorporates ext4 partition, etc then you may experience issues. You could always make a nandroid in recovery, flash the kernel and if it doesn't work the way you like, then just restore your backup. Another option is to flash drews kernel again if you don't like the way the stock one reacts. ;)
Yes, nandroid is your friend!
They are the same mod. Just refereed to differently. But same thing.
Here are the cons that I have evaluated that choose me not to main stream it into the ROM.
  1. SD Card speeds. They are not as fast as the internal memory (for the most part). The ROM will take a performance hit if you start using apps2sd.
  2. SD card swapping. I swap my SD's all the time. If I swap with my Optimus with apps to SD then bye-bye apps!
  3. This device is notorious for SD card issues. Just go through the forums and you will see. What happens if your SD card starts acting stupid? Bye Bye apps!
  4. Also what if you want to upgrade your SD card after installing all these apps to SD? Bye Bye apps.
I just think its a bad really idea to incorporate a removable device as part of the core system. This is just my perspective. Yours may differ.
