I just rooted and installed gROM on my daughter's (ZVH) phone. (My 1st root & ROM ever. Easy.) Thanks!

Are there any apps that allow WiFi tethering in infrastructure (not adhoc) mode to work with gROM. I have the built-in app working, but (as previously mentioned) it crashes the phone upon exiting the app.

Since Android WiFi tether 3.1-beta-6 is (as of this post) built-into gROM, I tried installing 3.1-beta-11 but it has the same crash-on-close problem.

WiFi tether is the only thing holding me back from gROMming my phone, my wife's, and my son's. (We're all on ZVC and enjoying free WiFi Hotspot via Quicksettings.)
Reborn rom (which is a ZVD rom) has a working hotspot (free) that comes with it.

Always happy to help, hit that thanks button if I did

Scott: Thanks so much for gROM. Two suggestions:

1) In the original post (or on page 1 of this thread) please note that if people want to use WiFi tethering in infrastucture mode that they need to go into the built-in WiFi Tether settings and set Device-Profile to "LG Optimus S" and the Setup-Method to "Netd (master)". Also please note that there is a known bug with that WiFi Tether app that crashes the phone upon exiting the app. I probably spent 3 hours trying to get it to work, including reading through the 100+ pages of posts here to figure that out.

2) If Titanium Backup (free) were included in the ROM (and if, on page 1 of this thread, you suggested that people do a Titanium backup of their apps and data after being rooted), it would have made my transition to gROM easier because I could have just batch-restored all of my apps first-thing, as soon as I loaded gROM. Otherwise, once gROM is installed, you have to load Titanium Backup, which means that you have to go to the Market to install it, which means that you have to setup your Gmail account from scratch.

But gROM is still being recommended and installed as one of the better available ROMs, so I think it would be worthwhile to make my suggested revisions to the documentation.

If gROM won't receive anymore updates, then Scott should probably note that in his original post. (Currently his post asks for suggestions, and it says that he's working on new features with no ETA.)

Recompiling with Titanium backup (and possiblly updated apps like Play-Store) would probably be a relatively small effort, but if development has been stopped then I guess the amount of work is irrelevant. I realize that Scott works on ROMs for a lot of other phones and he is probably more focused on newer models.

Really? You just have to enter your gmail account user and password and let it sync for a few minutes, install TB, then batch restore. Unless you are trying to use the device as a standalone, that all seems pretty reasonable. The Play Store is a nuisance, I'm with you on that, but it updates pretty easily.

My wifi Tether isn't working, program starts and seem to run. But I cant see it on my computer. What could be the problem?

It's not a huge hassle to type in your Gmail account, go to the market, and download Titanium Backup. But if Titanium Backup were built into the ROM, we could each save a few minutes by skipping those steps. If most people are restoring via Titanium backup (or other backup apps), then it seems like it would make sense to save thousands of people those extra minutes. I can't think of a good reason not to bake it in. I think it would be convenient for the end-users if all of the custom ROM developers rallied around one standard backup app (like Titanium).

It should work, but it will usually crash the phone when you shut down the app (unless you go into Android's Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and "Force stop" the app, then go back to the app and close it.

UPDATE. BETTER SOLUTION.... There is a much easier solution. Download the free app, FoxFi, from the Market/Play-Store. It works perfectly (in AP/Hotspot/infrastructure mode) on HydroROM, gROM, stock ZVD & ZVH ROMs, rooted or not.

If gROM ever gets an updtate, I'd recommend including FoxFi and dumping WiFi Tether.

EDIT: Sprint caught wind of FoxFi and now Sprint won't let Sprint customers access FoxFi from the Play Stor. But Sprint users can download FoxFi directly from the the developer's website. http://foxfi.com/
