[ROM] Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3 [02-8-11] Fast, Beautiful, and Simply Magnificent

hey once again thanks for all the help....still loving this rom...only issues are as follows:
*gmail, my additional accounts, primary aside, need to be mnually refreshed, i have sync checked off, but it does not auto refresh.
*both google maps and facebook had updates via the market, which will download, but installation is always unsuccessful
*this is a small one, more of an inquiry than problem, but the android market went from cool and transparent back to standard look, don't know why or how?
again, any help would be very greatful. thanks.

For the mail - check under accounts and sync and see what the settings for the other accounts are.

For the market installs, clear cache from the market under settings -> Applications -> all apps - then re-try.

Loss of market theme - Yep - once you access the market it will download and install an updates market and you lose the theme. Bummer, but that's what it is.

Tried to install zip and it aborted... it says to please switch back to edifying scripting?
is the CWM i am using not right for this rom.. I have the most recent update? uhhh... which CWM do I need to be using for this Rom to work.... I even did a full wipe of all 3. some help here please...

I would really like to try this ROM out.

I downloaded this app yesterday and so far so good. Great ROM!! I've had CM7 and forgot how much I missed Sense.

One question though, is there other fonts I can get for this ROM other than the one it came with and the stock font download that's available?

Ok I am having "The application ..." (process com.android.xxx) has stopped unexpectedly. This happens why I try to go on the internet or even change the ringtone under sound. I loaded the 2.5.1.2 recovery to install this ROM. When I install ROM Manager than it says I have whatever I did last ROM. If I 'fix permissions' than after a reboot, this error will constantly come up and I have to reboot in recovery and start all over.

Is this not supported by the update Clockworks? I would think it would being there have been updates. I really like this ROM but if I can't get it fixed I will switch to a different Sense ROM.

Help??

I'm getting the same thing as nygbrad, whenever i try to go online or access my market, everything was working perfect up until yesterday....suggestions please? thank you

worked thanks, any reason why it was doing this?? seemed like it popped up pretty randomly

I still don't know why I cant try this ROM.. I am getting the same Script error... oh well... Ce la Vie!

may have spoke to soon, getting that pop up error msg now again, locks up phone pretty much, suggestions?

I am getting the same error that other people are getting too. I wiped everything and i get this error "it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages."

Someone help with this. I really want to try this rom.

OK. I downloaded the 2.4 ROM again. I decided to not install all my data but just my backed up apps. No more force closed issues so far so I think something is wrong with my backup. However, I don't have the cool transparent market anymore. Is there a download I can install to where I can get this back?

Thanks!!

Never Never Never restore system data from a Titanium Backup or any other backup. The system data from your old ROM will bork the new ROM every time. In addition, you should only restore apps that hold state (like games) from TI, everything else should be reinstalled fresh from the market. This is just good tech practice no matter what device or platform you are using.

@nygbrad - unfortunately the skinned market does go away after you use it the first time because the market will automatically update after that first use. It's a shame, but I don't think he has made a re-skinned market for the current version.

Good to no. I ever knew that. What's the best way to back up the phone before switching ROMs then, Nandroid?

Also I got a message yesterday about low memory but I check the levels on TI and they seemed fine. Is there a folder I can go into to delete some unneeded data or anything?

Nandroid backups are full system images of your device at the time the backup was made. They are not good for restoring apps to a new ROM. Nandroids are all an or nothing recovery tool.

To backup data between ROMS - Titanium (and there others on the market but I use Titanium so I'll use it as the example) is good for backing up data when moving from ROM to ROM. However, let's think about what really needs to be backed up...

e-mail - Gmail is saved on the Google Servers so no need to back that up. POP/IMAP Exchange email is also backed up on the mail server so again no need to back that up.

Contacts - Gmail contacts are automatically backed up to Google's servers. Phone contacts can be backed up using the export/import function in the contacts app.

Bookmarks - Titanium backs up bookmarks and this is one of the very few pieces of system data that can be restored on any phone.

Apps - What apps really need to be backed up? Apps that hold state or current progress information and that's it.

Apps like Angry Birds (as an example) store your progress locally and if you do not back it up you will lose your progress, so game data can be backed up and restored.

Bank apps? Nope - everything is on the bank's server. just re-download and login.

Weather Channel? Nope - the handfull of locations you can monitor can easily be re-inputed after a fresh install.

Beautiful Widgets? Nope - If you have the paid version, you can re-download from the market and re-set up your preferences. If you want to save the data so you don't have to re-download skins then this is another where you can restore the data after re-installing the app.

The big advantage to backing up all your apps with TI is that you have a list of what was installed. You are better off doing clean installs from the market for apps that do not hold state. Another way to manage which apps you had installed is to use AppBrain, it will sync what apps you have installed but AppBrain does not save data.

SMS - Now this one is a personal thing. I don't care if I lose my SMS. I don't hold every text message as if it were a precious illumination by DaVinci, however I know that some people do. There are apps in the market that will restore SMS messages, even when moving between ROM's but they are not a fix all. If problems develop after restoring, then you want to roll back that restore.

Other than that, what else needs to be restored from an old ROM? Any config?s or screen setups would have to done over again anyway. You would want to take advantage of any features the new ROM has so restoring old setups will do more harm than good.

So, after a very long-winded dissertation, Titanium is good for moving from ROM to ROM, you just need to be knowledgeable about what is safe to restore and what is not safe to restore.

I'm excited to flash this ROM. My Incredible has been shelved for some time, but I recently broke it out and flashed Re-engineered v1.1(Guess I found an old post :D). I really like the ROM, so am downloading 2.3 now. Only gripe I have is not being able to see some of the pics(battery icons, mods, etc) in the OP. Would really be interested to try out some different elements, but I don't fell like playing the blind flashing game again :p.

*Edit* Install failed using link from OP. I'm on the go so haven't had a chance to look at this thread too closely, but I do believe I read that a few others had the 'install aborted' message. Looks like possibly from CWM being updated. Couldn't read the error message too closely either.

Bummer, I was excited about this rom lol. Hopefully it will get straightened out...
