ARCHIVED: [ROM] Reborn ROM v2.2.4 - 7/24/11

In the first post of this thread Nick says (regarding installation):

1. Download Reborn ROM. Do not open it, do not extract it, do not rename it.
2. Place on root of sdcard.
2. Reboot to recovery.
3. Wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache.
4. Flash Reborn ROM.
5. Reboot and enjoy!

This isn't clearing my Max Download Cache enough to download updates from the Market. Trust me, I've scoured this and many other threads but I still have questions. Can someone please assist with these (even if OT)?

1. I'm using the ThunderC 2.2.1 for Recovery. If instead of "Wipe Data" I run "Wipe ALL data/Factory Reset" will I lose my Root or VD update? Will that blow out Reborn Rom as well?
2. (OT but trying to save my butt while working with Reborn) When running NAND backup in the above mentioned Recovery, do I need to select the non-default "Recovery" to backup my Recovery boot as well? Meaning, if I don't select that will I not be able to boot to recovery.
3. Is anyone else getting FCs from Gmail in Reborn 2.2.4 w/Google Apps updates?

Thanks all!

1. Wiping all should not make you lose root. It will not wipe out the rom either. At least it shouldn't. I am using CM on my phone and it works.
2. Not sure of what your asking tbh since I don't have the recovery but I would imagine the non-default recovery option would be for general use by other types of recoveries such as ClockWork Mod. I have never had an issue with any of my phones recoveries and I am not really sure you would need it considering you can re-flash the recovery if needed, then use the nand files to restore. Hope that helps.
3. No FC's in Gmail. Have you cleared the application's data? Have you updated permissions in recovery? Did you try and re-download GAPPS and re-flash it.

Good luck brother. :)

Thanks wild1z. I haven't redownloaded & reflashed the update, but will grab it in case. I managed to get all my apps updated in a very convoluted way that I have used in the past. No more errors and running smooth.

I'm so tempted to run the Factory Reset in Recovery, but really don't want to start over!

Where did everyone go? Is this no longer the "it" ROM for the Optimus S?

Drew's CM7 is the hot thing right now. The only thing I hate about CM7 is that all the XDA themes are lame-o compared to the ReBorn themes.

I used CM a year ago on my Hero (CM6?). It was ok, but didn't care for a certain wallpaper. I have liked this line of ROMs much, much better (ThundeROM, LEGO ROM, Nameless, Reborn). CM7's spread is impressive though.

I'm sure CM has improved since I used it a year ago...

I'm coming back to reBorn for a while. I like the roaming app Nick made, the LG launcher and theme team themes more than CM7 themes and the perks of GB

** Nick7,

I noticed in v.2.2.4...in SetCPU, that there is a new option called 'SmartAss'. How does it work and is it better?

From the developer:
smartass governor ? is based on the concept of the interactive governor. I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works ? by taking over the idle loop ? is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the ?old? minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies. Smartass will also cap the max frequency when sleeping to 352Mhz (or if your min frequency is higher than 352 ? why?! ? it will cap it to your min frequency). Lets take for example the 528/176 kernel, it will sleep at 352/176. No need for sleep profiles any more!

Hehe, starting over after a factory wipe is all part of the fun isn't it? :) This is my son's phone and I had him on Ath3no's unofficial CM7. I would rather see him run that but he is still learning and I think this is a better all around rom from him to use. CM7 wasn't as stable. I do have CM7 on my Nexus and it's the sheit!

** Nick 7,

There has been some discussion lately regarding a *tweak* so that we can trick the phone into using the SD Card as 'Internal Storage'.

It has to do with partitioning the SD Card with either ext2 or ext4 and etc.

As far as this tweak and RebornROM, do you have any thoughts or advice for us?

Thanks!

Hmm I haven't seen anything about that, could you provide a link? Although it is completely possible. You would have to partition your SD card (preferably ext3 or ext4) and then set up some symbolic links and some other mumbo jumbo in a post boot script. I've never really looked to far into anything like that because I only ever have like 9 applications on my phone at one time. If you provide me with some more information I could help you more.

here you go :)

Apparently this zip is working with the current version of Reborn. Haven't tried it myself, I'm just getting that from other member's responses.

EDIT: Everything you said is correct. lol. symbolic link mumbo jumbo...

Check out this thread over on XDA, JsChiSurf is the originator of the notification toggle bar app thing.

Basically, you can add/remove toggles by editing a text file in /system/customize. You can have a max of 6. There are 15 total toggles you can use:
toggleWifiAp
<snip>
Another question... I'm trying to modify the toggles that appear on the notification bar to remove Bluetooth and remove the screen-rotation toggle. Using FileExpert with SU granted, but I can't seem to change the settings. It appears from the discussion I quoted above that others have done this successfully in this thread, so I must be missing something?

edit: I was able to change the toggles by going in via adb, so I likely missed something with FileExpert. Has anyone added the Flashlight toggle? It doesn't function. edit2: Apparently the flashlight toggle will only work for phones with a dedicated flash: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...born-rom-v2-2-4-7-24-11-a-123.html#post941211

It probabbly has to do with how your phone is overclocked or underclocked. I would try overclocking it a little higher to give you more 'ram'
