If your mom has the hot spot included I might give it a go on mine first, hotspot is required for me! I'm on the move all of the time and this is my only internet. I have been very lazy with things after flashing Reborn, but I suppose it's time to get up with the times.

I've got some reading to do on your mom!

I think it's time for you to let your mom out of her cage. Sorry, I had to :p

All joking aside, if you want the features and performance of Reborn but want to be sure you have a ROM that is presently developed and updated, Your Mom is calling! Just make sure you update to the ZVH radio before you answer :p

Sorry, Drew, but I have to take exception to your post.

While I have the utmost respect, and tons of appreciation, for what you and the other devs are doing with Your Mom and all the other work, proclaiming that upgrading to the newest work in progress isn't the best 'one size fits all' solution.

There are many people (myself included) that are in need of a stable solution, not the latest one. While Your Mom may have some enticing features, there are reasons that some may not wish to jump on her right now. She's based on a flawed release of GB. While the devs have focused on adding the functions that make some of the other earlier ROM releases great, all what lies below the surface from the LG/Sprint release is still unknown. For a device as important as my phone, I'll take the devil I know over the one I have not met every time.

In the post you quoted from westmichigansc, he had something change in his wife's phone (having a wife of my own, I understand the importance of things must work right *all* of the time!). If he had a stable platform before, upgrading to something completely new and different would not be the best advised troubleshooting practice. He asked for advice in the correct forum, and you shilled your new release. Instead, I would of suggested he first go back to his original microSD card (after cleaning out the card slot with a little wind), reload only apps that had been running on the phone for awhile, and then adding an app or two a day, seeing if the issues returned.

that sounds like a good idea, change the card.

was the person with the problem running data2ext or not? if not, then anything kept on internal memory should be ok... maybe there are problems with the phone.

if they are using data2ext then maybe the card is just flaky... i seem to recall spotty reviews of the new sd card on newegg.

there is no reason i can think of that a phone in working condition would start acting up on a known stable rom.

No, I do not run data2ext on our phones. I do use the app2sd to move them over to the sd. She does not run a lot of apps, so she could probably get by with all the apps in internal storage. First I will try switching back to the original card and see if that works.

I have wondered if I need to reformat the card but that is not an option while it's in the phone. Out of curiosity, would starting with a completely blank microSD cause problems, assuming I move all of her apps back to the phone first?

sometimes the reading/writing of data to the cards could be corrupted. you would expect 'new' to work better, but sometimes it works worse. you could even try leaving the memory out of the phone and see if it still ends up getting worse after a few days.

I would move all "daily use" apps back to phone. As for formatting the sdcard, that is no issue. Just format and reboot. All necessary files will be reinstalled. Every time i do a major rom switch, i do this. Just back up your data to a pc, just in case. Better safe than sorry. It wouldnt hurt to do a nand back up too.

Here you go: Reborn_600MHz.zip

This is a complete ROM. I even updated the following apps because I'm such a stellar guy:

Nick,
I really appreciate your help. This is a very nice ROM. I've got a bad phone. Even with your wonderful stock clock ROM installed on it, the phone chokes, coughs, locks up, reboots and loses it's brains (all in the space of a day).
So now I'm looking to buy a new/newer/different one 'cuz I'm tired of wasting my time with this one, but LG says any phone bought off Ebay has no mfgr warranty. Dang.

Edit: eBay offers SquareTrade warranties on some phones now, including used ones. Ask and ye shall receive!

Thanks again for your help and I'll update once I get a new phone.
:)

Hi there.

I've read all of your etiquette suggestions so hopefully I won't violate....this said, I can't seem to flash the current Reborn ROM. I'm on a brand new LG Optimus S, made sure it was VD, almost used ROM MGR  until I read all the brick warnings, figured out how to install Xionia, made a nandroid back-up, downloaded Reborn from your link, moved it from my Slackware box to the sd card root....didn't open it or change permissions or alter it in any way (*inhale*)....

....but when it was time to install it from the recovery menu I received an error message saying: E: can't open /sdcard/RebornROM_v2.2.4_updated-gapps.zip (Error:0) Installation aborted.

It's got to be something really simple and obvious that I'm missing. Thanks in advance for your help. Likes and donations immediately to follow when I am up and running. No free lunch.

I am assuming this is what your xionia recovery looks like. From there did you choose "install zip from sd card" scroll to the reborn zip and select? If so, I would suggest a corrupted download and perhaps try to redownload it.

Thanks for the quick response hlxanthus.

Your screenshot is in fact what my screen looks like and I followed the expected installation route you suggested. First time I downloaded it was to the computer. I tried to open it to peek inside with Archive Manager but no dice.....anyway, then I moved it to sdcard root and ran into problems trying to install it. So I thought the same thing -- that I'd corrupted it somehow -- and decided to do a fresh download directly to the sd card root using double-mounted device (connected by usb). Did that, but again....same result.

My ppp connection on laptop is set to reconnect if dropped, so maybe it did that both times and fubared the DL. Will try again tonight after work and report success or failure.

Thanks.

Just want to comment that I have no desire to switch roms as this is the most stable and full featured rom I have used thus far.

My only issue is I still run out of phone space and the only true fix for that is a new phone.

Thanks to Nick7 for making what is arguably as close to stock stability if not more stable then stock in a rooted Rom.

Just wanted to say that it's up and running. Sweet. Thanks so much for this. Where is the RebornROM tip-jar?

Have you tried data2ext? You can set so you can have 1Gb of storage or more depending on size of sd card.

sent from my CM7/Reborn w/ 1 Gb internal storage Optimus S

Always happy to help, hit that thanks button if I did

FYI: MD5sum for latest version:

Actually, just prior to reading your post I saw the donate button on KSmithInNY's profile and used that. Hopefully it all goes the same place. Wasn't much, ten bucks....but just a gesture to say that I really like what you guys are doing. Favorite OS: SalixOS. Favorite ROM, RebornROM.

Thanks, and keep up the good work. (HydroROM....gonna check it out)
