[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

Hey ragnarokx (or whomever might know). I also updated the log files and have the problem of messages in my call log. I'm still new to this so not sure what you meant. Do you use root explorer to copy that apk file from the zip in that link?

One other quick question. Still have the media hub and DRM files that keep running (i installed the sprint and samsung apps). Will it be okay to delete these files using Sdx without messing anything up? I was going to delete files "DrmUA.akp" & "MediaHubV102_Epic4G.apk"

Thanks!

Yes on Root Explorer.

I don't see problems deleting the MediaHubV102_Epic4G.apk but I'm not positive on the DrmUA.apk. I think the Drm is linked to other media in the system and could case issues.

So I went and installed the reg email app and the Sprint VM app. Overall this is 100% better than DK28. It's more stable, faster and the battery life has improved. Thank you! No more scouring the web to see when Samsung will release 2.2. I don't care!

I keep getting "No Connection" with the Galaxy Tab Gmail app while on WiFi. If I click on retry enough times it eventually works. I have tried clearing data and cache but no luck. Any other ideas before I switch to the froyo Gmail app? Perhaps this is the cause of my poor battery life.

Why does this happen!?

Have we fixed the reboot loop/cache dump problem yet?

I purposely left slacker running to drain the battery in order to cycle it. after turning it back on this morning it went into a boot loop and I let it just do it's thing to try and get everything out of the battery I could. I did expect the bootloop as I had seen this issue come up a couple times, but I was surprised to see the little setup wizard after plugging the phone into the truck on the way into work.

I needed a number out of the phone so I dropped my gmail info in and was further displeased to see everything force closing repeatedly, and no cache memory when opening the apps that would work. I could only assume that this was because entering the gmail info caused the apps to begin restoring from the market, but then I started seeing many system apps crashing.

Reluctantly, I put it in recovery and restored a week old CWM3 backup (thank FRICKIN god I had that much to work with!) and everything's back to normal, or at least as it was a week ago.

I apologize for my laziness in not searching through the 50+ pages of this thread for my answer, but I'm sure that the astute (and quite genius) of you that have been tracking this thoroughly can point me in the right direction. And as always, a *HUGE* thanks to those of you that have put this ROM together and also the ones helping the inept troubleshoot! ;)

Let my battery run all the way down today and when I finally charged the battery and rebooted it got stuck in an endless loop :( Only thing I could do was to reflash the ROM, which wiped everything out :( BUMMER.

I have to say that I am surprised that the Market at least can't remember what apps were originally installed and let you re-install them. This is were WebOS was very good. Oh well, back to the drawing board, re-install all my apps (and then do a back up this time) and re-do my home pages :) Still love the ROM.

Has anyone pinpointed the root cause of this issue yet? I've had this happen to me twice now. I turn on my phone, it brings up the setup wizard, all my settings are erased, contacts gone (but programs are still on the phone), then everything FC's. The first time I "re-imaged" my phone. Second time AM Launcher was working (thank god), and tried wiping the cache of the programs.. this didn't work 75% of the time for 3rd party apps (I had to uninstall/reinstall). After doing a lot of reading this week, this still seems like the most maintenance free ROM out there and I don't really want to switch...

I mean all my data is in the cloud and I don't loose any info, just the time and pain-in-the- of recustomizing my merged contacts, special widget settings, etc, etc... Thanks in advance - love your work! :D

Two things that everyone seems to forget doing once they get to Froyo.

1.) As soon as you get setup with your apps downloaded, make a backup. Both in CWM and also on Titanium or MyBackUp. This way you have something to restore from incase of problems

2.) As much as we would like to, don't try and restore apps/settings from Eclair. This just seems to cause so many problems. Data would be the only thing I would try at the most and even then make sure your prepared to restore in case something goes sour.

Above all, once you get things up and running I know its hard but try not to toy with things too much. I know these are custom ROMs and we should be able to play with them that the whole point but it seems like sometimes you try too change to much and it only ends up bad.

I had the same issue on a business trip earlier this week. Turned off my phone on a plane, and when I landed and booted up again, it did something wierd and eventually booted to the Android man screen and basically phone was borked. Data was all gone and like you described, pop-up after pop-up for app force closes. Very concerning to me. Luckily I back up my data using MyBackupPro every few days, so between that and Titanium, I was able to restore, but cost me an hour of my day reconfiguring settings, etc. This is the first time I've ever had this happen on any ROM. I might look elsewhere until there is a cause pinpointed so we can be sure this never happens again. Really like all the hard work this Chef is putting in to develop the ROM, just need to pin down reason for hard resets...

Just wanted to add my two cents. A lot of peple seem to be having problems restoring a backup when coming from eclair. For my phone, I installed everything from scrach and so far everything seems to be running great. For my wife's phone, I used myBackup Root and SMS Backup and restore and so far, no problems. If you're coming from eclair, yu can try those apps to move your data. Guess I got lucky.

When Sprint and Samsung finally release the official ROM will this ROM be updated? I am really enjoying this ROM and the filesystem speed. I doubt the Sprint new ROM will support the EXT filesystem. I don't want to lose that.

If this ROM will be updated will it wipe the phone with the update? I hate to lose all of my Angry Birds levels again! Could never get that data restored.

Hi Ragnarox, Great job on the ROM! I'm curious. I'm still debating on "waiting" for the official Froyo or using this but I'm curious if DK28 was still using the craptastic RFS or converted to ext4?

Yes you can bet on it that once the official Froyo is released all devs will grab the "framework" from the official ROM and incorporate that into their ROMs. The EXT4 filesystem is an add on done threw CWM/OneClickRoot and not part of the ROM.

The leaked Stock Froyo DK28 and early custom DK28 ROMs still use the RFS filesystem. All the current ROM's now support EXT4 filesystem with Edify scripting.

i have, i tried two in the past. i mentioned before that i have. i dont like using odin cause of my first experience with it. ( in the end odin was the only one that work lolz) the reason iwas/still am curious about the gpsSetup.apk is cause i was going through google/forums and realized eclair has it, and i just wanted to see if this could potentially be a fix. im still a noob, but learning as i go =] also sry for starting this in the TER thread. i wanted to see if someone usin this rom had the .apk, since im running it

It's because you restored a backup that is causing conflicts. Neither I nor my beta tester (Paul627g) have ever had this problem.

@bjwest & a_c_s

^this is an example of a good working system with no/minimal restored backups. If you must restore, only do essential apps selectively using a program like MyBackup or TB - don't restore system settings or anything of that nature.

Stock Froyo DK28 does not contain that app, so it doesn't come into play for GPS problems.

Question about android keyboard text selection "handle"

In this ROM, when I am using the android on-screen keyboard, if I tap within a text entry field that has text in it, I get this little "handle" that is blue and in the shape of a water-droplet. It allows me to move the cursor around, or if I tap the handle, I can choose select/copy/paste type operations to perform.

What is the name of this app/mod/feature? My friend has the stock froyo that came on his Evo and would like to have that functionality so I thought I'd see if it is something you put in your ROM specifically.

I tried to do a screen capture but when I use drocap, the "handle" disappears from the captured image, oddly.

Thanks in advance

No that is not something that was put into the ROM. I know exactly what your talking about. Drives me crazy when it happens. I haven't taken the time to figure out what exactly it is.

Alright good to know. i thought i was on to something... thanks for crushing my hopes of being able to contribute to the forums :'(

Thanks for everything. Everything I've done to my phone has revolved around your posts. (including the messups haha) thanks for the help, the step by steps, your ROM. and for being my main dealer of the addicting substance that is ROOT.

Very nice feature

I recommend you check it out. Obviously if you don't type a lot with it you won't like it, but it's really a cool, well-implemented tool. It allows for fine-grained selection and manipulation of text. Ever notice when you've typed a sentence, maybe you want to insert a word, so you tap between the words but the cursor doesn't go exactly where you want it? you just grab that "handle" and you can slide the cursor where you want it. Same with selection... If you want to select five words, for example, first you position the cursor (by tapping, and then adjusting with the "handle" if necessary).. then you tap the handle itself and you get a context-sensitive menu to select text or paste if there is something in your clipboard. If you tab the "select" icon, you can now just drag that handle wherever you want to select words. You can even drag it up to the next line up or down.

update: I noticed in my post I asked the question "What is it?"... I meant to ask what is the name of the feature/app/mod. My fault about the ambiguous question.

At first- I thought it was a tool exclusive to the browser, which I thought came from the TAB - but you're correct- its in any text field. Me- I LOVE IT. it's not quite as great as the text handles on the EVO- but it's loads better than not having it. For phones without optical pads or trackballs- it's indispensable. Please don't take it out of this rom.

On a seperate note- should we have a different post about apps or mods to this ROM? There's a lot of questions about the Galaxy Tab email for example-

And to that I've another question about it- so I have yahoo and hotmail now working having the right settings helps-I also have gmail configured in this TAB email app- but I don't have the address books come up when I click the icon... is it just me- or does anyone else who have ANY email accounts working on the tab app have contacts working?
