[ROM] TrulyEpic Rebirth v1.5 AC - no planned EB13 update :'(

from the no bubble mms thread:

"you need to go into the Mms settings and under "Custom User-Agent" select "Custom" then enter any name you want for the custom user agent... You might need to restart the messaging app, but I tested it and was able to save at full 2560x1920 ..."

For anyone have problems receiving MMS, see above.

Hi ragnarokx,

I'm trying to use the mail client that's included in the build with Yahoo plus account. I followed incoming and outgoing pop server settings from yahoo page, but it just doesn't seem to download the mails. I have no problem with gmail account, but only with yahoo. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the wonderful rom.

Best bet is to revert to stock email app, see 1st post.

I have the same problem. I tried flashing the stock mms.apk and still having the problem receiving mms

for me it all started after installing the stock sprint apps.
i have removed all of them but the hotspot app because i dont know the name of the apk.

can anyone let me know what is the name of the hotspot apk in this rom to see if removing all sprint stock apps solves this problem.
I dont want to flash this rom again and would like to try this before having to do so.

thanks.

See the top of this post.

Hotspot cannot be removed in Froyo.

OK, I have tried re-loading the Restore Bubble SMS several times but I can't get the messages to stop showing up in my call log. I am using Handcent and have notifications from the stock mms disabled. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try using stock SMS app and see if they still show up in the call log.

Anyone having issues with WIFI? Its a relatively fresh install and its been present since. What happens it it initially works, but if the phone goes idle or is put into sleep the WIFI remains connected but there is no internet connection. My router works well (Airlink with dd-wrt) and I never had a problem before rooting...

Anyone else experiencing similar WIFI issues. I am actually not sure whats the trigger to make the data stop streaming, but like I said before it might be related to sleep/idle.

Of note, I do not have JuiceDefender downloaded/running at the current time.

I've never had WiFi issues. Do you have the Froyo DK28 modem?

I just installed this, but I'm having issues syncing with an exchange server. I'm going to try a different ROM, but it appears that the activesync gets hosed on certain items every once in a while, and stops delivering.

Best bet is to revert to stock email app, see 1st post.

Absolute BEST ROM for EPIC Thanks

I tried these Roms
Nebula Rom -Got Stuck
Syndicate Rom -rebooted on its own and stuck

Epic Rebirth- Brilliant smooth Rom that works well not geting stuck or rebooting on its own A +++++++

I second this. Absolutely fabulous ROM!

I would like to start by saying THANKS!! This is a very nice ROM! I had some issues installing it, but it's in now and seems to be working well, with the exception of a couple issues (1 minor, 1 major). I installed the lite theme (above) and it seems to be working, but I still have the stock battery indicator. The major issue is the mail. I have the phone sync'd with our exchange server and contacts and calendar are fine, but when I try to open the GTab mail, it opens and then says connection error. I installed the regular mail app (above) and it just force closes automatically. Any ideas? Also, is there any way to get the sprint navigation back? I really like that app. THANKS, Rick

Is anyone able to get Hulu working in landscape mode? Or even on their stock browser?

Ragnarokx mentioned here that it should run in landscape on the browser, but I cannot get Hulu to work on stock or Dolphin browser.

Thanks. Loving the mod!!

I never specifically flashed a modem for DK28, however, under the settings it shows DK28.

I know some people had to reflash or whatever, I searched the thread and never saw anyone state whether or not that helped their issue with the WIFI.

Should I flash the DK28 modem again, would that help?

Also, do I use Odin to do this....

Can someone break it down in regards to what is Froyo vs Eclair vs Odin vs CWM etc.... Its all kind of melding together and I am getting confused...

I realize you change the file system to EXT4 which uses Odin, now is this considered Froyo by going to EXT4? (My understanding is Froyo = 2.2 and Eclair = 2.1 which is a different filesystem).

After you change it to Froyo/EXT4, you then install clockwork mod, and from that you can do all your ROMS and customizations... Am I missing something?

Any thoughts on the WIFI problem would be truly appreciated, sorry to post so frequently. I will try my best to give back after I get this all figured out...

Ragnarokx
I got everything except the mail figured out.
Can you send me a private message on here? I own a hosting company and I would like to set you up a website for this so people don't have to go through that other site to download the files. Contact me, and I can get you setup. Thanks, Rick

When you upgraded to DK28 Froyo the modem was installed with it.

I don't think reflashing the modem will resolve WiFi issues which is different from your modem (3g/4g radio).

Eclair & Froyo are your phones ROM or (operating system). Eclair 2.1 (DI18) is the latest official release when you purchased your Epic. Froyo has had a few versions but the "leaked" unofficial version we all use is Froyo 2.2 (DK28).

Your questions on Odin & CWM etc can be found in the [FAQ] Q & A on Rooting/ROMs/Methods. This should clear things up for you on what they are & do.

Alright so after tons of Google searching and roaming the Android forums as well as XDA developers, apparently this Wifi issue is a known problem, and honestly, I think I may have had this problem PRIOR to installing Froyo. There seems to be virtually no work around, I am going to have to try some different apps, but honestly a $300+ phone should not have these issues... someone mentioned some Broadcom driver problem that was supposedly fixed, eitherway, I am not really sure what to do.

Has anyone had, or known a friend to have, a Wifi disconnect issue when the phone idles/sleeps. I have it set to "NEVER" for wifi sleep and there are no task killers or juice defenders running. I have been working on this all day to no avail.

EDIT: Good news... The following program worked for me. It is called Wi-Fi Keep Alive. Explanations at the link below from the developer.
[App] Wi-Fi Keep Alive 1.4.2 - Don't let wi-fi turn off when screen goes off - xda-developers

I don't have an explanation for the battery meter - try flashing the theme again.

Flash the stock email app from post #1.

Flash Sprint apps in post #1.

No. I didn't restore any back up. I tried restarting a feew times but I have the same issue

Did you wipe three times each before flashing? You may need to do this and flash again.

You have to go to settings on the Hulu webpage and change it to landscape, or something along those lines. I haven't used it in a while.

1) [App] Wi-Fi Keep Alive 1.4.2 - Don't let wi-fi turn off when screen goes off - xda-developers
2) WiFi constantly drops, won't stay connected when in sleep (option to never sleep IS selected) and won't reconnect - Android Help
3) Froyo Roms and WiFi disconnect while sleeping? - xda-developers

I'm trying to understand your problem - you have WiFi on, your phone sleeps, and then your WiFi stops working upon wake?

I'm trying to understand your problem - you have WiFi on, your phone sleeps, and then your WiFi stops working upon wake?

Yup, thats basically the problem. In order to get my Wifi to work again upon awakening I have to turn Wifi off and then turn Wifi on again and do a fresh connection. If I sleep it again or if it just goes idle and sleeps, the same thing happens. I thought the above fixed it, but I lied... it only worked for a little bit, and its back to disconnecting regularly. There seems to be tons of these posted littered on the internet... Should I try and request a new phone? I don't think its hardware related though, cause that again wouldn't make sense right? I dunno... I will keep working on it.

Hmm.. perhaps an app like Juice Defender would help in this situation. If Juice Defender turns off your WiFi every time your phone sleeps, and turns it back on when your phone wakes, this would essentially perform your fix but automatically (in theory - I don't remember if Juice Defender is capable of doing this).

ragnarokx,
I really appreciate what you're doing here so I set you up a website for it. It's just a temp page I threw together, if you want to keep it, I'll make it alot nicer. Just let me know. I am not much of a programmer so I hope this contribution will help. If you want to keep it, I will have my web guy set up a real site, with working pages and a forum.
Just let me know. I am not trying to solicit anything, it's a free donation.
The site is: trulyepicrom.com
Thanks again

That's very generous of you, thanks! No need to create a whole web page and forum - we've got that here at AC. However, file hosting with direct downloads would be very helpful. Would it be ok to directly link files like the ROM zip?

sms in call log

OK, I have tried re-loading the Restore Bubble SMS several times but I can't get the messages to stop showing up in my call log. I am using Handcent and have notifications from the stock mms disabled. Any ideas? Thanks!

I had the same problem and could not find a solution for some time. I read in the forum that maybe something was being written over that was causing the sms to show up in the log, as the this rom is suppose to eliminate them. The solution that finally worked for me was to follow the directions on another forum and use the android sdk to put the file LogsProvider.apk on my phone. I put the mentioned file (LogsProvider.apk) in the tools directory of my SDK folder and then followed these directions.

In windows enter a command prompt
Change to the SDK tools folder
Type the below commands hitting enter after each one.

adb push LogsProvider.apk sdcard/
adb shell
su
remount rw
cat sdcard/LogsProvider.apk > system/app/LogsProvider.apk

Once this was done, I rebooted my phone (not sure this needed to be done).
Now my call log no longer shows any new sms messages. The ones already in the call log are present, but nothing new shows up. You can also delete the old ones by long pressing on them and selecting delete (each one individually). One last note, the options on the call log for viewing are unchanged, SMS still show in the options, but when all is selected, I only get phone calls sent, received, and missed, no SMS. This was the only solution that worked for me. Hope this helps

Lag rotation? I think I know what you are talking about and how to fix it. Are flying games like winds of steel affected at all? if so then I tink I am understanding what is going on. Every time I fash a froyo rom I have a slight lag in rotation and in flying games the plane don't fly right. To fix this i have to calibrate sensors not by using the option in settings but by downloadin android terminal emulator by jack something. then follow this

Type: su then hit enterand allow the app root
Then type: /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha and hit enter then just folow directions. Exit app turn off screen, turn it back on and then it should fix the lag

Excellent find friend. I recently did a quick Odin back to stock and back up to TER for some troubleshooting purposes and ended up with the slow screen transistion when switching from portrait to landscape. Did as posted and all fixed. Again, good find.

I had this problem too, not the texting, but the image sending, the new SMS that is in the TER rom allows you to send/receive unresized images and not reduced sizes that the phone does to send quickly, so bgasicly when its in the "sending..." its sending the image true size so if its 1MB is sending 1MB, i don't see why it would take so long to send such a size, since the speed of the 3G is fast enough to get that through fast.

Thanks for this information! I was wondering why it took so long for me to send an MMS. Didn't know they weren't reducing my image sizes. BTW, SMS and MMS are sent through a different connection to the cell towers, its not 3G or Wifi or anything like that. Thats why you can still receive SMS and MMS when you turn off your 3G. That would explain the slowness.

I am trying to flash back to stock and back to DK28 to hopefully fix the WIFI problem which im 99% sure it wont.... either way in the directions located here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...12-how-factory-restore-fix-bricked-phone.html

Step 9. In the left half of Odin, check only the "Auto Reboot" and "Debug En" boxes. Make sure everything else is unchecked.

There is no "Debug En" box present... What should I do?

Disregard. Older version.

Just check the Auto Reboot.

That's fine, most of the files are already there just go ahead and link to them. If it's OK with you, I would like to finish the site anyway, and keep it up just because I think the forum thing here is a little confusing for people new to custom ROM's.
I am going to try to make it more instructional.
Just let me know (I don't want to step on anyones toes)
