How about key preview pop ups?

Great rom, and thanks for the ad-ons.

I've spent much time on this rom the last few days and I must say it works very well, I think it has less glitches than the stock sprint roms.

If your looking feedback from your users I have a couple insights I think are worth examining.

First, the keyboard. I like the stock swype keyboard, thanks for leaving that. However, I wish I had pop-up previews of the keys that are pressed. That would be nice.

Second, and more debatably, the name of this rom is not flattering to women and instead is plainly offensive. I mean that in the most straightforward constructive way. If the name "Your Mom" is supposed to be funny then the humor you embark upon is not good material for your business. Please by all means enjoy the type of humor like, however, if you are looking to market a rom for users who may be male or female then you have already alienated a large target audience who could potentially be interested in utilizing the creative product your team has collaborated on. Months ago, when I first rooted my device, I purposely did not flash this rom because of the name. Clearly, it is not only women who are alienated (or turned off) by the name "Your Mom Rom".

However, if I may say, this rom has exceeded my likings compared to others I have tried. And, I have tried many. So keep up the good work, thank you, and don't take my suggestion too seriously. It is merely honest input from just one of your consumers.

Your Mom Rom deserves a try because it gives a straight forward design with enough options to customize without going over the top and becoming too complicated.

Thanks for the input! Im glad you like the ROM and you are right, it was an inside joke and that is all. We are in the making of Hydro ROM right now. Soon Your Mom ROM will be outdated. Once again this was not to offend anyone but more of a running inside joke. Thanks again for your time and enjoy the ROM.

I finally figured out how to get the standard wi-fi AP (Hot spot) feature in Your Mom Rom to work. As those who have tried before me, when you attempt to turn on the hot spot AP feature, you get an error message. I found some info on the LG Marquee site in a message authored by timf76 that pointed me in the right direction. This is a two step process.

Edit: This is a solution to those wanting to get infrastructure mode wifi hot spot. If you are happy with the ad hoc mode with the provided wireless tether ap keep using it. I did not like the weak WEP encryption of wireless tether in ad hoc mode and had some compatibility issues. This work around gives the same performance of a zhd baseband ROM but with a zvh baseband ROM. Only tried on YOUR MOM ROM V1.1. Your mileage may vary.

2nd Edit: You must have Launcher Pro installed temporarily in order to gain the shortcut->activities feature. Once the short cut is added you can remove Launcher Pro.

Step 1-A -- Disable the DUN NAI function
Long press the home screen to add widget
select "Shortcut"
select "Activities" Note: You will need Launcher Pro (free) installed. You do not need to keep this installed after you create the shortcut.
select "com.lge.LgHiddenMenu" Note: Make sure to pick this one not the other com.lge.hiddenmenu.
select "ServicesLG"
This places a ServicesLG icon on your home screen
Step 1-B
Press "ServicesLG icon
scroll down to "Data Setings" and select it
select "DUN NAI"
select "No"

Step 1-B needs to be done only once each time the phone reboots. It is fairly quick given a short cut next to the AP icon on a home screen.

Step 2 -- Enable the Hotspot Wi-Fi setting
This can be done in the Settings->Wireless & Network Settings->Portable Hotspot
OR
Use one of the many Hotspot widgets in the market to enable; for example "HotSpot Toggle by mehdy bohlol"; some others freeze up the hot spot enable function.

Perhaps one of the developers on HydroRom can flip this setting when it boots or create a simple drop down button or some other hack. Or a custom AP widget that does both functions just for this family of ROMs. Take note that the hidden LG menu structure is different in various roms.

And thanks to those members in team hydro for all the hard work.

This may work but only if you have a launcher that supports adding activities to the Homescreen. The launcher included with HydroROM does not support it, but LauncherPro does.

Using HydroROM Beta 1, I am not able to get it working using either the built-in Hotspot setting nor am I able to get the Hotspot Widget by Harold Muller to work.

It's going to take more than a simple setting, I'm afraid.

EDIT: Using the latest beta of Wifi Tether for Root Users yields similar results in both Softap mode and Netd mode. Netd mode appears to enable the Hotspot tethering (and the native notification DOES appear) but no wifi networks can be found on any of my computers. Turning it off results in a system reboot. Softap mode says it's working but there is no notification and no network appears.

I suppose you are only testing this with the HydroRom. Just to be clear, when I use YOU MOM ROM and attempt to enable the HotSpot I get an error message saying it needs to update my profile. However, when I use the activity shortcut to disable the DUN NAI, I can then enable HotSpot normally through settings menu or with at least one known working widget. Is HydroRom that different from YOUR MOM ROM? I'm using YourMomROM-v1.1 Kernel 2.6.35.7-GingerKernel-v08+dreqwalton@drewwalton-MS-7549#2 BaseBand LS670MVH_6150.

Also I get some of my info from post #8 of http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...nyone-w-marquee-tried-wifi-tethering-yet.html

And thanks again for the kernel.

** Drew,

A few quick questions:

1. - I'm not sure if I have been following this thread close enough...but is there a problem right now getting the WiFi Tether App to work with YOUR-MOM-ROM? I don't mean the 'native' Wifi HotSpot option either...just the WiFi Tether app that we have always used??

2. - Since you guys are not supporting Data2EXT...would you consider creating a small script/Mod...that will move /cache/ partition to SD-EXT? Perhaps call it 'Cache2SD'?

This way, WITHOUT using 'Data2EXT'...we could still use the 'App2SD' App to move apps to the SD Card and then /cache/ would never run out of space because it would be virtually unlimited since it's on the SD Card. This would also be a lot more stable than 'Data2EXT', as in SD Card errors and etc?

Let me know your thoughts.

BJ

Wifi tether app should still work fine.

Sorry but we will NOT be providing any scripts that move anything to sd-ext. What I can do though, is provide a zip that simply gets rid of the dalvik2cache mod if that would help anyone in any way. Sorry guys but as far as "anything2ext" your on your own there.

I typically don't like to give answers like this, but there is quite a bit of info via Google regarding these mods I'm sure. If your interested in the zip to remove dalvik2cache, let me know.

JSTNTP,

Yes, I would love that script. Also, when you guys *tweaked* the last 'Data2EXT' Mod for YOUR-MOM ROM v1.0, was this Dalvik script implemented within the Data2EXT script?

Thanks!

BJ

Ok, give me a few and ill post it.

And yes, that data2ext zip I modded for YourMom removed the dalvik2cache mod automatically. At least let me look at it again and make sure I'm not lying there, lol, its been awhile since I tweaked it.

Edit: Actually your using the old version of data2ext that I modded for YourMomv1.0 so no, that one does not remove dalvik2cache with v1.1 since we changed the scripts in the last update. Even though I wish not to be a part of this mod (as I've stated before) I'm going to PM you the updated zip to use in Your thread.

JSTNTP,

I wanted to PM you the following JPEG, however it seems that I do not have the necessary privs to do so via PM.

Before I flash/test out the files you sent me, I thought I would post the following attached .JPEG.

It's a screen-shot of my phone via ADB.

Is looks like '/dalvik-cache' is *already* located within /data/...or am I missing something?

Just wanted to check with you first.

Thanks!

BJ

Since this is related to dalvik-cache I will answer your question here in the thread.

No it is not. Well, the system thinks it is...... but in fact if you look at the dalvik2cache script, you will see that it is creating a separate directory for dalvik (/cache/dalvik-cache) which is then symlinked to /data/dalvik-cache because that is were the system looks for it. Look at your screenshot again and you will see that /cache is giving the exact same values. If you remove the dalvik-cache mod with the zip i sent you, and then run "df" again, you will see that /cache has waaaay more space available.

Just a tip....... I like to use Root Explorer from the market to view this info. While exploring each directory and folder, it will inform you at the top, total and available space and show all folders and subfolders in the system. ie, with dalvik2cache mod implemented, you will see /cache/dalvik-cache as well as /data/dalvik-cache subfolders. But without the mod, dalvik-cache will only show in /data.

Just bought a 16GB sd and noticed that when putting it into the phone i get a message about the sd card needing to be formatted and that it's blank. It is FAT32 and when in recovery the sd card will mount as usb storage and i can save nandroids to it. The only problems are while im in the rom. It's a Sandisk class 4 SDHC and it tests fine with h2testw. Anybody know whats causing this?

I plan to move to Hydro, but YMR is working fine right now other than this.

You could try formating it from recovery.

No dice. Still shows blank inside ROM. Card seems to run slower. Flashing Grom to see if it's isolated.

Happens in Grom as well. Ill try stock then Zvd

Update: Stock ZVH was a no go, but i reverted to ZVD and sure enough the card works. I guess no more Gingerbread for me. So apparently my sd card support stops short of 16GB in ZVH.

Update 2: It also doesn't work in CM7 on ZVD. So it's just any Gingerbread.

JSTNTP,

Quick question:

I went ahead and flashed *dalvik2cache-remove-yourmom-v1.1.zip*.

When I reboot, it just hangs on 'Your Mom ROM'. I can reboot via ADB to recovery, but it still just hangs in that one spot.

Now, I did not 'disable' Data2EXT first...I just went ahead and flashed this .zip.

I was going to just reinstall Your-MOM-ROM v1.1 from scratch, then flash the updated Data2EXT.zip that you gave me.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

BJ

I know that the dalvik-cache removal zip that I gave you will work just fine with this rom in its native form. No clue what might happen while running data2ext.

Sounds like a fresh start is a good idea.

Ok, no more data2ext talk in this thread please. Feel free to pm me though.

K, thanks again. I will go from scratch and run the other .zip and let you know.

You can let me know, sure. But might I suggest that u post your results in the thread you specifically created for this mod as well.
