[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

Hay, I just used this, and should it be EB13 or DK28? Because I've tired it twice and the Command Prompt looks fine, but still shows the bulid as DK28.

If I update and root the current way wll I have to reinstall if I want to use ext4 when that is available?

Ok... noob question - I'm currently on 2.2 using Rom-midnight 3.3. I am rooted and using CWM3/EXT4. If I do the process in the 1st post, it wil re-root my phone, and I can then flash EB13. Correct? Or will this install EB13 in the process? Will this effect my ROM? Will I still be able to use midnight 3.3?

I saw a post that this process will take you back to CWM2.xxx. If my current ROM is EXT4 only (which I believe it is), will I be able to run my ROM?

Must be on EB13 before rooting.

This is root only, not an OS install.

Flashing EB13 will erase your ROM.

No.

Don't know - I wouldn't count on it though. Backup using another method as well just in case. If it does work let us know.

The video would just show someone plugging in the USB cable and double clicking on the "run.bat" file. Where are you getting stuck?

how does this differ from z4 root and if i had it proir the eb13 can i get rid of it and superuser and run this one or can i run z4 again?

With the response made by Ragnarokx (thanks so much), I think I should stay on DK28 until ROMs are release that are EB13 compatible.

Everything is running great on my phone. I don't know if I should go to EB13 just yet. :-\

This new froyo update is so much better tat the dk28 leak. Its smoother. Spent about an hour last night reverting back to DI18 to update to EI18. It was worth it

How long should the "copying files to phone" take? It's been there 10 minutes. I would expect less than a minute?

Reboot everything (computer/phone), then try again. It took me three times before i got it.

I would stay on Froyo DK28 for another few days at least. Things are moving very fast and it will only be a few days or sooner before the devs all have converted/new versions of their ROMs.

Trust me your not missing anything right now.

ragnarox, you are the man! I finally updated manually via Mac, could not get any love on my pc, what is different above if I Want to root on my Mac as well, or is that method not out yet?

Hellz Yeah! Froyo manually done via Mac, Rooted via pc (maybe the only way?) and Titanium Backup acknowledged me as superuser!!!! Thanks to all at AC, from my Pre to here it was a long road, cant wait to Mod, Flash, whatever, thanks!

I did what you said,
However my phone seems to be laggier than before.
I'm not sure what's going on as this is the first time I'm rooting.
Could someone help me find out what the problem is?
Is there something I can run to smooth out the lag?

uh oh.
I rooted last night using one click root.

today I installed CWM,

then tried extracing zip file in cms for ext4.
kept booting to samsung mobile screen and looping.
so I 3 fingered, restored to previous and now it's still looping.

any suggestions?


in 3 finger mode, i see that clock work says:

CWM recovery v3.0.0.6
checking for ext4 partitions.....
checking /system....
checking /data
checking /cache
done.

bare with me, noob to this.

by flash do you mean, run .bat for each one through windows?
i rat bat for froyo last night,
and bat for cwm today.

was i supposed to run .bat for ext4 too?
I thought in cms i was just to install form zip.
