Well for starters you can Install programs like Adfree android block all the adds in the free apps you can install wifi tether to use your phone as a mobile hotspot and lots of other cool stuff like custom roms and what not

Well got all back to the way i wanted it just restored all my removed system apps did the update.zip rooted and reinstalled my adfree and wifi tether and posting from my phone now...

Doing this root procedure will automatically give you ClockworkMod Recovery 2.X.X.X (forgot the exact build number).

I had the same problem

ugh... having worse problems then the first time i tried to root. keeps saying waiting for the phone to reconnect and nothing happens. tried killing adb in all types of ways. plus there's 2 adb files running for some reason. it restarts on its own after i kill it

question.. i do NOT want to mount the SD card as a drive correct?

edit: errrr nevermind. sixth times the charm

I had the same problem.
probablaly it the USB cable or the pc. reset you pc and star over.
I hope this help you to resolve your problem.

Hey I hope this help you out

my main question is who has been rooted and then installed the 2.2 update manual way and the phone was fine and just needed rerooted. So no issues b/c of the previous root

First: I took my phone back to DI18 by using Odin.
Second: I downloaded DB13 update from Samsung web.(go to the article how to download DB13 manually Use the one that It says for Mac.)
Third: I set the DB13 in my SD card.
Fourth: I downloaded the way we have done it before. (Power bottom, down volume and camera at the same time.)
Fifth: Now that you have DB13 you can root your phone. the way Rag has it in his article.

good luck.
I hope this help you out with your problem.

For some reason it won't go root whatsoever at all. I didn't have this problem when I was on dk28. It'll rather give me a string of error messages saying phone is offline or it'll say there is no such file or directory and error out. It mentions having an hd games apk. I Odin'd back to stock before updating via the update.zip. I have no such hd games file on my phone, but remember if I was stock that I should have it. Any suggestions?

When I took it back to DI18 by using Odin. I signed in my google account and got my apps, contacts, everything. then I flashed DB13 update. after that, I rooted my phone. did you follow the same procedure?

No, I immediately updated. It never gave me option to log in. Didn't check though. Guess I should Odin back? I'd like to go back to being full stock. It mentions I don't have the apk for some hd games app and a few more. I think these were added to eclair through an update or something? How can I be restored to stock eclair?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is still RFS, right?

Right. This root method installs ClockworkMod2, which only supports RFS. I've updated the 1st post for clarification.

You can use Odin to flash Froyo EB13 directly, then root from there. Take a look at this thread for the .tar file to use with Odin.

I found online a tar file. I used it with Odin. I went all the way back to DG27
I google "SPH D700 DG27". and I found it. Also you can try to google "SPH D700 DI18". Then use Odin 3.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. Forgot to try to google it. I think this may work and help restore whatever files the root method said I was missing...

You are welcome!!!. You should take a look what Rag wrote for you. It will help you a lot as well.

Now the pc doesn't recognize the phone at all. Says unrecognized device. Tried to repair and reinstall drivers. Might try from my mac somehow...
