S4 not charging, drains while plugged in

I've had my S4 for about a month and have noticed during the past week, the phone no longer chargers to 100%. It slowly drains until completely dead even though the thunderbolt is visible indicating it's charging. I've been using the OEM S4 charging MicroUSB cable and charger since day one. I tried my S3's MicroUSB cable without any luck with the same results. The MicroUSB connection seems nice and solid.

I've had to use an Anker wall charger to charge extra batteries to get by. My one month return window with Amazon just ended, so I can't exchange it.

Any ideas? Thanks! :)

Have you checked the charge rates when it gets above 90%?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but why can't you exchange it? It has a 1 year warranty on it through your carreir does it not?

Using one of the battery monitoring apps? No. What am I looking for?

skipatrol: I do have total equipment protection on the device from Sprint. You are correct though -- there is a 1 year warranty. Problem is, I risk getting a refurbished unit if I have Sprint replace it.

Here is a perfect example. I took the OEM battery that was fully charged on a Anker wall charger and popped it into the phone. When I turned on the phone it was at 100%. I plugged the OEM charger in and started playing around with the phone just for a few minutes (looked at pictures, texted, etc) and it dropped by 1% and continues to drop as I type this message.

The USB out on a computer is NOT strong enough to power the phone while it is being used.

If you use it lightly, you will slowly charge the phone, but if you play a game or use it extensive you'll lose battery power. Computer USB outs are in the 500-900ma range.

The wall charger provided outputs at 2a. Use that. I realized this issue this morning and after using the supplied cable and supplied wall charger, I'm getting rapid charging even while heavily using the phone.

Oh, were you charging your phone through your computer and using it at the same time? If yes, then try to use the wall charger as it charges faster.

Try varying the performance parameters in the setting.
Worked for me when i changed it to "powersaver" :)
