S6 still on 5.1.1?

Unlocked and activated an S6 for a friend whose phone died. It's new, was never activated, AT&T branded. It's working fine, except it's still all the way back on 5.1.1 BOJ7. I read that AT&T pulled the Marshmallow update from its servers. So I'm left wondering whether a) there's a way to get the phone to update without needing to flash it, b) what would happen if we simply waited for the Android N rollout. Friend is not tech savvy, so if we go the flashing route I'll definitely be doing all the work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If it works and your friend isn't tech savvy just leave it alone.

For anyone in the same boat with a Samsung phone, took it to a Best Buy with a Samsung Experience Center and it was shockingly easy. They flashed it for me, Knox wasn't tripped, phone is up to date.
