Android Central Question

I have password and iris unlock enabled on my s9+. Every now and then I get "For your security, use your password to unlock your phone. You can use your biometrics next time". Problem is I cant remember the password and have had to hard reset my phone. How do I turn off that feature or extend the amount of uses before it requires the password. I have require password for reboot turned off.

You don't, it's for your security. If you want an insecure phone, change the lock screen to None. (Proximity Service might help if the screen is normally covered. It turns the screen off, but simulates user activity [maybe "looks like" is a better way of describing it], so the screen doesn't lock. You can still lock it with the power switch.)

Remove all the device administrators one by one. I am sure this will solve the problem.
For me it was the Greenify that caused the problem.

It's pretty standard for Android devices to ask for your backup password/PIN periodically when you use biometric unlock methods. I don't think you can get around it.

The backup password/PIN is the one you created when you set up your biometric unlock.

If I want biometrics ONLY without pin, why can't I have that again? I don't get the reasoning behind denying me choice of how to unlock my phone.

If I can choose to have no pin at all, and use swipe to unlock, then it follows logically that I could also choose to have biometrics only, or biometrics and occasional pin, or pin only.

Instead, we have this stupid situation where we can have biometrics but only with the certain irritation of needing a pin at completely random times, that will often be inconvenient times when you need quick access.

It cripples biometrics, and I really would like to know how I can stop it happening.

If, for any reason, the biometrics cannot be used - bodily injury requiring a medical dressing, for example - you would be unable to access the phone without a backup method. The manufacturers are ahead of us in having thought of such possibilities.

I believe it's also a security issue as well, because at their current stage of development, biometrics are still significantly less secure than passwords and PINs. Fingerprint sensors, iris scanners, and face ID can all be fooled with enough effort. A good password is virtually impossible to break. A good friend of mine is a cybersecurity expert, and what he tells me about how "secure" our devices are can be chilling.:-\
