Sales for Note 9 less than expected

The Note isn't a unique beast anymore. It used to be the largest phone with the best specs every year, now it's basically an S with a Pen in a sea of phablets.

Personally I use the pen much less often on my Note 8 than in the past, the tall screen with curved edges reduced it's usefulness.

The really interesting thing here is that different phones appeal to people for different reasons based on their need.

This simple truth is what fuels all of the arguments on line as people defend their choices.

For example, I am a busy executive. The iPad is the only way I can consume and at a low level, produce serious content. The phone can’t approach my iPad experience, and my iPad can’t come anywhere near my laptop experience....

The phone is my communication device and I read email and news while in transit, listen to music, etc. I barely use my camera. It blows my mind that quality of communications is always an afterthought in YouTube reviews...and not all phones are as good!

So the success of a phone and its form factor is based on product mix and current tech trends. People are starting to complain about the lack of small phones (check out the Macrumors forums).

Add in life cycle questions, costs, etc., and it is a very confusing marketplace for the companies.

The Note series would sell better if it was released with the S-series. Anyone who purchases an S-series phone will not want to upgrade to the Note series only 5 months later. I think Samsung releasing it in late summer is just stupid.

I think having an S series, Note and F series is all a bit too much. Too many premium series, too much R&D to sustain and continue. And too much choice on the eyes of the buying public.

Not just the premium. Samsung is trying to do a lot with the minimal as well.
The Samsung Galaxy Amp phone. The Samsung J series. Samsung Galaxy A6. Etc.

Plus all those washers, dryers, fridges, TV, computers, etc.

Samsung is spreading themselves way too thin. Apple would never try to do all this. This is probably why Apple is a trillion dollar company and Samsung isn't.

So maybe the Note series will go away. I don't want to see that. I want the Note series to continue. Forever.

New 128GB Note 9s are selling on Swappa for $800. I don't see any reason to go to a carrier store to purchase one for $1,000.

For me I wait until a deal happens or it's a deal..
I like to be the first to put my Paw's all over it in my own unboxing privately.

Many people have migrated to China made android phones. Samsung no longer the go to manufacturer when people are looking for an android flagship.

Mediocre camera reviews along with first big screen iPhone and Pixel 3 with great cameras had to hurt.

I've seen both. Have you seen any bad reviews of Pixel 3 camera?

For pictures, no. However, there are a number of reviews demonstrating the horrible audio when recording video, which is problematic for me. In fact, it's a dealbreaker for me right now--which is a shame, because otherwise, I want that camera!

I'm not a video guy. What I need are great auto snapshots. What I don't like about Pixel 3 is the lack of led notifications and the stupid notch

Not sure I would be either if I didn't have a couple young kids.

I relate it to the face that the S series always releases a little before. Most of the "normal" people go for that. Especially since most probably have been using Galaxy for years so they just stick / upgrade to what they know.

Well not everyone! Many on this website bought the s9 Plus then got the Note 9. I stuck with the Note 8 though. Last year I bought the S8 Plus then the Note 8 a few months later.

Why are they selling their Note 9 so quickly for?

I would never buy a used phone for a number of reasons.

This is what I suspected all along. Yea, the 512 sold really well but overall it appears the 128gb version way undersold so when combined still comes out to less than expected.

Hence why there are still good promotions for the Note 9.

I just received my new $999.00 Note9 purchased direct from Samsung taking advantage of the trade in deal in the article. I traded in my paid for Verizon Note 8 and Samsung gave me a $500 credit. They also gave me my choice of a Samsung Gear VR w/controller or Samsung Gear 360. I already have a Gear 360 so I opted for the VR. Verizon threw in $100 so my Note 9 cost me $399 + tax=$431. 00. Also Verizon was willing to finance the $399. over 2 years no interest $16.67/mo.
(I've had my Note 8 since it was available on a pre-order and paid 1/2 price - $480 with a trade in of a paid for S7Edge.)
I hadn't planned on getting a Note 9 but couldn't pass up this deal.
