Samsung fans, why are you buying the HTC One instead of the S4?

I'm not loyal to any particular manufacturer so will try anything that gets my attention .. as long as it's android. First of all loved the look of the One then read loads of reviews and based my decision on what I read. O2 only offered me the S4 on 24 month contract (not for me) and let me have the One on a 18 month contract + 3 month early upgrade so I can upgrade in 15 month which suits me more.

I'm sensing a trend here...:p

That people's big beef with touchwiz is a bunch of options that are debatable useful or not and can all be turned off? That wouldn't be my criteria in choosing between phones

I've had and used both Samsung and HTC ( and an iphone for about a week) I think they will both be great phones. Samsung will probably sell 10x more but its to be expected with their reputation/advertising budget. What I don't understand is how people discount hardware so much? When I go buy a car I don't look for the fastest car or the biggest engine. I go by looks, feel and a manufacturer's rep. How a car looks to me is 1 of the most important factors. And I can't make my phone's build quality better but I can improve the software after rooting and putting something custom on it.

Do your homework, the s4 screen does not use the same penile matrix the s3 had.

Neither handsets have gimmicks, as long as someone finds them useful then they're features surely?

Perhaps you did not see the post that I replied to, it was in satire.

But I still strongly believe the S4 has more gimmicks then the HTC One.

Even if it does, my question is who cares? Unlike htc "features" Samsung options can be turned off. Next people aren't going to want to buy a phone because some of the wallpapers are ugly.

I agree competition is good.
Last night was out with my daughter and she didn't have much for down payment so I got her the S3.she has 14 days to test it out. I suggested an htc one but she did like the htc one X that my att didn't have.
One thing she is not liking, and she has NO pen to cut pictures out.. Is click and save pics.. Like on Facebook.
I told her to do a screen shot... She is loving the phone but my husband who still didn't put down the captivate for over 2 years. I have given him my iPhone..... I wonder if he is going to stay w iphone or maybe switch w my daughter lol she had the iphone 4...ill wait and see. He has my 4s and both those lines upgradable

Well, in all fairness I would find smart pause to be quite useful, but the rest garbage. I'm sure it wastes a lot of internal storage (not a fan of SD cards) and in the end my opinion is that HTC did a nice job with sense and I find touch wizz way too different from stock( I have a N4 so I know what stock is like.

What evidence do you have that HTC has better build quality than Samsung besides your personal preference in choice of materials?

Metal or plastic? Of course build quality could be open to interpretation by anyone with a opinion but for most the feel of a metal device that is smooth and sturdy feeling would seem a better build than something that feels like plastic..I mean the banana shaped home key standing out just looks outdated on the front of the galaxy.
This has nothing to do with performance or what's under the hood..just the feel of the device

I respectfully disagree. You are only referring to aesthetics, not actual quality. For example, the aluminum tends to scratch more than plastic. Plastic survives drops better. The removable back means phones like the S3, S4 are far more easily repaired than phones like the One.

I totally respect the fact that you PREFER aluminum to plastic but that hardly means it's built better.

Also, if what you are saying is true, I guess most people don't care about "build quality" as evidenced by sales of the Galaxy series vs. HTC.

Who comprises "most" people in your statement above? Just curious.
