Samsung Galaxy Fold. Who is picking one up?

Honestly....the only time I need two different devices I'm either home or able to transport both so I wouldn't gain much by carrying one device that does neither well.

I do wonder who these folding devices are for. Like what's the user case? Developer? Enterprise??

Remember when Samsung Note 1 came out? All of these questions were floating around too. Who in their sound mind would carry a phone that big? So on and so on. Look at the Note now, it's the reason why we have all these big phones.

The fold is in that same category. It will change the phone industry. I would love to have one. Just too expensive.

I dunno if it will change the industry after them basically cancelling the launch and not saying when it will launch. In addition if you look at iFixIt they talk about a major flaw with the product.

To achieve the fold, the thin bezel that surrounds (and protects) the screen leaves a gap where the two halves meet. You don’t notice it until you notice it … And then you can’t help but “test ingress.” Don’t try this at home.

This 7 mm gap doesn’t seem like a huge deal, but it leaves the display exposed—so should something accidentally enter, it’s curtains for the screen.

I would wait this one out to see how well the screen works over time before spending $2000 on a phone. I personally don't like how thick the device is when it's closed I like how the new Motorola Razr is looking.

I hear you on that, just trying to figure out where it would fit. So using my core set up as an example:

1. Laptop/Desktop - Heavy Data inputs and bigger screen for heavier work. Primarily inputs.

2. Tablet - Mainly video consumption, reading books articles and data/info extraction (probably put in from the laptop).

3. Phone - 98% Communication & Information, quick hits on the go, light music consumption.

So is the idea behind one of these new folding devices to, in my case, collapse 2&3 into one device or no?

I'm not interested in buying it. I'll keep an eye on how it progresses, but the price tag and (even) the hardware just don't appeal to me.

I had a big phone compared to other phones before the Note. I wouldn't give the Note that much credit and it certainly is not the reason I like big phones

2&3 is the intent. I just don't see it as necessary for my lifestyle and I'd rather just have separate devices that do each job better than one trying to be both

And the Fold... I didn't see any stylus, or "Note type", functions. I may have missed that somewhere, tho. Still, bit surprised that wasn't designed in. Perhaps their plans were to add a device like that into the Note line specifically.

You didn't miss it....it's not intended to be a Note
