Hello All

I'm new to this forum and recently changed from Blackberry to droid. I'm still learning how to use the phone and have found this site very helpful so far. :) I used to use crackberry to find out when they had new "beta" releases of OS's. I found that installing a new OS on the blackberry was so easy and only took about 20 mins max. I could also delete the vendor.xml file and it didn't matter what vendor the OS was built for. I've tried finding the ICE CREAM SANDWHICH OS for this phone but I can't seem to locate it. Has there been a release for this model? also, does it really matter which vendor it's registered to with android? (like telus or bell etc.) Also, I believe these updates are called ROM's right? Is it easy to upgrade your OS on these devices?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

Shannon

Shannon,

You need to go to the search button and read all about rooting your phone and flashing ROMS to your phone. It is not simple at all.

If you have a friend who is a tech Jedi that is familiar with Android help you.

Shannon...they are called ROMS indeed. Comign from a blackberry world myself I have found Android a little more difficult than upgrading to a leaked OS on a blackberry. It is only now that some ICS Roms based for the S2X are starting to come out, but they are early editions so I am not sure I would use them on a daily basis. I use a ROM called slickmod supreme 3.4 and find it pretty good. It is based on the Gingerbread version of Android. First thing you have to do if you are going into the world of ROMS is "root" your device. There are plenty of guides if you just do a google search. One word of advice is do NOT use a rom that isn't for the S2X. ROM's for the S2 are out for ICS. Do NOT use them as you will brick your phone. use only ROM's for the S2X. Tmobile ROM's are fine. Just make sure you have the correct modem file KJ3 I do believe. Once you have done it once it becomes pretty standard after that :) Have fun!!
