Samsung Galaxy S3 charging issue

I'm having similar problems starting just a few days ago. My phone won't charge on any wall charger, car charger, or usb plugged into my PC. My wife's charges just fine. Yesterday, I pulled my battery and was then able to charge to 100% then heavily use the phone all day. Overnight, I could not charge the phone again, but this morning I'm charging it fine after another battery pull.

I'm thinking of trying Shaniqua's directions for deleting data. Is any other important data deleted?

whowantscake,
It's strange that it charges normally after a battery pull.
Why don't you just try a complete power off instead, and charge it with it completely off. If that works we know it doesn't have anything to do with the charging port, and likely nothing to do with the battery itself.
At that point I'd recommend a Factory Reset. Be sure to sync your information with Google (if that's where you save your contacts, calendar, etc.) and backup anything important. You could try:
Helium: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
MyBackup Pro: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro (there's a trial version)
Also be sure to set the Google Play Store NOT to automatically restore all of your apps after a reset, in case something you have loaded is causing your current dilemma.

It's not charger or USB issue at all. I have three Galaxy phones in my home, one S3, one Note II, another Star. I tried all chargers and galaxy combinations. The same charger charges other Galaxies fine, except for my S3. It charges for few seconds, then automatically disconnects, then it turns the screen on, then suddenly it opens S-Voice, immediately shuts it off, again opens it, again shuts it off, again opens it ... and then the charging stops. I disconnect and reconnect the charger, the same thing happens again and again.

My S3 will complete one year on 25th July 2013. I took it to the Samsung Authorised service centre and they refused to touch it because I purchased it in Dubai, UAE and I am currently in India. They do not provide international warranty. I have been advised to take it to some quack of Nehru Place.

Plesse let me know if anybody has the solution. I am feeling frustrated.

Since last 3 days I have been experiencing the same problem. Galaxy S3 with JellyBean 4.1.2, is not taking charge at all. When I connect to the charger, it charges for a few second, then automatically disconnects. Again I pull out and push the charger, it again charges for few seconds and the disconnects. I tried removing the battery and re-inserting it, switching of the mobile phone while charging, nothing helped out.

I am sure there's absolutely no problem in the charger because I have one Galaxy Note II and one Galaxy Star at my home, they get charged in the same charger perfectly. I tried charging my S3 through their chargers, I got the same result.

I tried to charge it through my laptop's USB port, its the same. Nothing is working out. It also frequently switches on the screen, opens the S-Voice and closes it immediately, opens the desk organiser and closes immediately, and it keeps on happening non-stop.

The saddest part is that I live in India, and I bought the phone when I was in Dubai, UAE. The Samsung servicing centre refused to even touch my phone because they do not cover international warranty. My phone is still in warranty period.

Any solution?

Is there any way that samsung allows you to send it to dubai? I'm not sure whether shipping charges would apply or not in this case.

Sounds like a battery issue to me as you are able to charge the other devices properly. As you claim that it is still in warranty period, consider sending it to repair instead of purchasing your own battery. That way, you can confirm what is the real problem instead of buying a battery and it may not solve your charging issue.

I had problems with extremely slow charging after I updated my Verizon Galaxy S3, even when using the original USB cable that came with the phone. I bought a new rapid wall charger from Verizon, and problem solved.

Is the new wall charger rated at 2A?

I've had the same problem. the ONLY thing that worked for me was using a BB charger or replace the usb cable with an BB usb WITH the Samsung charger. Now everything is as it should be.

While google searching for help with my phone not charging, I found this forum. I'm sad to see that it's such a widespread issue. :(

For about the past month, my phone just hasn't been charging. I would plug it into the stock usb wall charger (the one that came with my phone from Verizon) to charge overnight and... nothing. If I was lucky, it would be charged ~50%. I thought I had done something to the phone somehow, but I couldn't think of what. It was like the electricity through the cable had slowly to a tiny trickle. I thought maybe the plug to the phone was loose because moving the phone in different ways either completely lost recognition of the connected charger or seemed to work ok. A friend went to a nearby retailer for me and picked up a 3rd party non-usb wall charger. It worked at first for a few charges, then wouldn't charge anymore (well, the 'trickle'). I swapped back to the original charger and did some more phone acrobatics to get it to charge. Now, again, I'm back to being lucky if it charges at all for several hours.

It seems to me that the constant message of "battery low/critically low" drains power faster than anything because it is turning the screen on every time it sends that message. :-/ I turn the phone all the way off and it still vibrates occasionally to let me know the battery is low (I'm guessing this is what it is doing; I didn't miss any calls). These are happening WHILE the phone is connected to the charger.

I am not savvy enough to know how to back up everything in my phone in order to do anything complicated (like the step by step instructions further up stream) in case it's a software error. :-/

eta: Beats me if this will help or not. Here is a ss of the battery life this morning.

having same issue.

my temporary work around was to buy a spare battery and stand alone external charger to charge the spare battery while i'm using the phone.
under $20 on ebay.

I suspect it may be a problem with a defective charger connection/ male connector on the phone but don't want to have to replace the phone ....too much of a pain getting it all set up again.

other than this annoying issue, I do like the S3

I have a spare NFC battery with a charger.

But don't these things charge just fine wirelessly?
A Touchstone + Pixi back, OR a Qi sticker is only $11.99 delivered on Ebay.

it can't be the charger, because the same problem occurs when charging via the computer's USB port. I even tried different ports because I thought different ports might deliver different power. but still, the same problem on an off - sometimes charging is smooth, sometimes slow or non-existant. Even changed the battery.....

Please if you find a way to fix it can you please please tell me thanks

Fix what? There are 55 posts before yours, and a number of different problems described, and quite a few suggested fixes. If you tell us EXACTLY what your problem is, and what you've already tried, we'll try to help. If you haven't already read all the posts in this thread, start there, and try the suggestions already given.

Have you tried different USB cables?

I had the same problem as you guys a while back..My phone would charge so slow that if I used it while charging, it would continue to discharge and when I wasn't using it and left it on the charger i would take a ridiculous amount of time to charge.

Turns out that the battery or the phone wasn't the problem! it was the micro USB cable I was using to charge my phone. It was worn out and didn't work well. I tried to use another USB cable I had lying around to charge my phone and plugged it into the same ac brick I got with the phone and it worked! So try to mess around and find what part of the charging process is actually giving you trouble :)

MY S3 also has the same problem. Bought in Dec 2012. Problem appeared in March 2013. Went to Samsung service center, they replaced the whole charger(adapter + data cable) and said phone is alright. Developed the problem again in July 2013. Now the service center says to pay money to the charger as Samsung gives only first 6months warranty and mine was in 7month. Everyday I charge my mobile with somebody else phone charger (Note 2,Grand,HTC). Other charger works great. In 2-3 hours the phone is 100% charged.
Really frustrated. S3 is great but charger really sucks.

Sometimes I think to buy a new phone but then if so much expensive S3 works like this then how can I trust any other costly smartphone!! :-\
