Samsung Galaxy S3...does it really beat the HOX? Why or why not?

I'm on the fence here. I have two people on my local Craigslist wanting to trade me their Android phones for my iPhone 4s for whatever reason. I had originally been looking to trade for a Samsung Galaxy S3, but really don't like the plasticky feel of Samsung phones. The HOX feels 10-times more solid and well built, so I'm leaning toward that.

I'm a pure Android virgin, so I don't know how the OS and performance of the two phones compete with each other. Which is going to be more of a learning curve? I am coming from a LONG time with the iOS, and am admittedly far from a real "techie".

Can some here who have had both the devices, give me some real objective advice as to which I should pick?

Thanks!

Well as you I'm very new to Android and can only give you my plus and minuses and impressions.

both are great phones and the reason I got the HOX was for the looks of the phone and that awesomeness of a screen.
I also liked the look of the software better " Sense vs Touch Wiz "
It looked so much better to me then the GS3.
However the GS3 does have some features that are missing from the HOX like exchangeable batterie and a SD card slot for expansion.
I had the iPhone since the very first one and 16GB has always been enough for me and now with Google Drive and DropBox I have plenty of room to store all my stuff.
Oh and lets not forget Google Music for storing my songs in the cloud too which clears out lots of room on the phone.

Maybe you should go to a Att or Best Buy store and have another play with both.
If you asked at BB to get a real phone away from those attachments on the display they will usually get one for you unattached to hold and feel.

Good luck with your decision.

I have both phones and have been using them(switching between them, but still carrying both around) for awhile now.

1. The One X screen is better, hands down, no contest..
2. The SG3 has removable battery. That doesn't mean you can't replace the One X's battery, it's just more difficult.
4. The SG3 has removable storage, but in all honesty, in the days of cloud storage, is this truly an issue?
5. The SG3 has some nicer features, such as the gestures, but that's just software that *could* make its way to any android phone..
6. The SG3 has 2GB of ram whereas the OneX only has 1GB, even so, both phones are extremely fast.
7. The One X is much more refined. The device looks really sexy, and the haptic buttons are better than the physical buttons on the SG3. If you rock a case on the SG3, the home button is harder to hit.
8. The One X has 2 LED colors, the typical red for charging, green for notifications. The SG3 has more, but I find the blue notification disappointing as that's usually reserved for bluetooth connectivity. It doesn't have a green LED.
9. Both phones on 4.0.4 are extremely fast, no lag anywhere.
9. The One X has the ImageSense chip, for burst pictures as well as quick raw format compression.
10. The One X has drop dock ports, let's hope HTC puts them to good use.
11. The SG3 has a better location for the power button, it's on the side vs on the top. It feels more comfortable to turn the device on/off.

these are my opinions only..

Here's an opinion from someone who is "TechnoDumb". I have a friend who is a manager at a AT&T Store. He had both the OneX and S3. (Not Display Unit). I played with each individually and then side by side. What's the one thing everyone uses the most? Yep, Display. At full display on the S3 you will "reduce" brightness on the 1X to about 40% to match brightness at full on the S3. Next most used, your hand. The S3 felt like I was holding a oversized credit card by its "edges" in my hand. The 1X was solid in my hand. The rest of it is software bells and whistles.
You can get almost anything on google play. The S3 hype isn't what everyone makes it out to be. Both phone are nice. Both phone have software glitches.
One thing for sure, you wont regret having the OneX.

The s3 looked nice, but the screen on the one x looked way btr IMO. Im a huuuuggggeee htc fanboy so i hadda stick with htc also lol. Sense is my favorite home launcher. So i recommend the one x. But if your a gamer and carry lots of games on ur fone then you consider the s3. Im good with my one x tho. :)

I was also on the fence between the S3 and the One X and decided to go with the One X. Mostly for the screen, but I also have always loved HTC phones.

Well, I 'm a happy One X owner. However, the question you have to ask yourself is: Do you want the the better screen? Or are a removable battery and an SD card slot more important to you?

By the way, if you're addicted to the iOS home screens, you can install Expier Launcher.

What carrier are you with? Obviously one that has both phones? If verizon the answer would be simple since they didn't get the one x. I am an s3 convert from my doid incredible and I LOVED sense but I honestly don't miss it as much as I thought I would.

Both phones are amazing and honestly I would have had a tough choice if my carrier had gotten both phones. I really liked my dinc but the S3 probably would have been my choice for these reasons: removable battery, sd card slot, 2 gigs of ram.

Ps the S3 has a green led light too contrary to what was said. It has a blue (used for more than just blue tooth) red, green and a combination of red and blue ( not purple but a split red/blue light) depending on what notification is lighting up.

Edit: my wife loves her Iphone but is constantly stealing my phone for many things. If you get either phone you will be happy, they make the Iphone look like a toy if you ask me. So much ore capable as smart phones.

I dont care much for a removable battery,my one x lasts me through my day. Unplugged from charger at 5am,8hours of school, and then work till 10. With around 10-20% left. As for removable storage space woulda been good, but im content with what i got. :)

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3...does it really beat the HOX? Why or why n

They are both great phones. I was just samsunged out after owning the s2, the note and the nexus. The HOX is aesthetically pleasing and sense is ok. The multitasking is an issue and no card storage is a drag. I would still go with the HOX because of touchwiz fatigue and the home button, which I hate.

galaxy s III easily.

One x is really the third best phone available, not bad at all but a few things remove it from the top spot

1. No sd card input.
2. No removable battery. Just like the iPhone, if you're a heavy user you won't be able to go anywhere near a whole day on one charge, at least with a galaxy s III you can purchase a spare battery and a wall charger - very convenient! Otherwise HTC 's poor design choice will leave you with an expensive paperweight until you find a charger or if you buy one of those charging cases that makes the phone bulky.
3. Galaxy s III has some great, real life used features. Some call them gimmicky, but the gestures and voice command (not s voice) are great
4. The gs3 has double the ram! It runs smoother, but if you Rom it, it flies!
5. It looks better.
6. It's thinner and lighter
7. Better camera
8. Better build quality. HTC has been having make build problems lately
9. Real multitasking.

The one advantage the one x has is the seen works better in the sun.

You won't lose with either phone, apparently att knows the one x is fading, they dropped the price lol

Most would argue that HOX has the better cam... and definitely has a better build quality over the GS3.

No SD can go either way.

A spare battery might be more convenient during the day. But it's a pain charging it after it's dead.

Your the only person ve seen that says that gestures are great. Smart Stay is cool when it works.

Double the RAM. Lol. Because touchwiz is a hog and needs it. Usability isn't affected, though, since all that allows you to do I keep more apps in memory. Even then, it still appears to kick apps out of memory much sooner than it should. It doesn't make the phone faster, though.

Looks are a matter of opinion, but IMO the SGSIII is plain looking. No flare.

Thinness and weight is negligible. Close enough to be a draw.

The camera is a trade. SGSIII generally has more dynamic range and better video capture, but the One X has better color accuracy.

What build quality problems? The wifi antenna? That's a quality control issue. The One X is extremely solid, but so is the SGSIII. IMO the One X is more premium feeling, and shiny plastic will always look less premium.

Real multi tasking. This is the only area the RAM matters. Samsung knew touchwiz took up more memory so they compensated for it.

Since you mentioned custom roms, I should be pointed out that the multi tasking is not an issue, since you can flash a ROM that solves the problem.

The only build quality problems relating to WiFi was on the International models, that issue doesn't effect the dual core AT&T One X. Also, Multitasking is much improved on the latest 2.20 update, however since its un-rootable currently, its more advisable to put a custom rom on and have your choice of a plethora of features.
