Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

I finally got a hold of Samsung, their position is that this is Androids fault.
So, 4.3 is only going to work on the new Kies,
However the new Kies is on BETA and not full release.
The said that once it is full release all the features will work again.
They said the the 'update' feature on Kies will auto notify you that the new version is ready...no idea on timing for this, and no suggestion for a workaround...
That's fine, did they tell you when the full version will be available?

I see there is a 7 day free trial....what is the cost after the 7 day free trial?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

I've been suffering from the same problem. I use Outlook for business and depend on having my Outlook calendar (and other info, but especially calendar) readily available on my phone.

The solution I came across is Akruto Sync, which I am currently evaluating. So far looks great.

All the details of my Outlook data appear to be included in the sync.

After the initial install, it is fully automatic. Once I get within the range of my wireless network, the phone connects to my computer automatically, syncs and stays synced.

Akruto Sync uses the native apps on my S4, so I don't have to switch to some other app. I can continue to use the standard calendar, my old widgets, etc...

I will evaluate it some more, but I think I've found my solution :)

**********I see that this AKRUTO Sync is a 7 day FREE TRIAL What is the cost after the trial period? Please let us know your evaluation of this product...
Thanks -

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Can someone help ?

I just bought S4 and updated the version to 4.3.
When i tried to connect to Kies; obviously it asked me to use Kies 3 for it to work.
Downloaded, but when i plug my phone from my USB, the following msgs from Kies appeared.

It says that, to connect , you must set the connection mode to media device (MTP).
Is there a specific place to find this ? I have already have the developer options on after 7 times tapping on my device. And i have the debug mode 'on'.
But i see no options for setting to MTP; or other help to connect my phone to Kies.

Any help is appreciated. Tks,

I am not sure if this tip would work for S4 on PC because I use S3 on a Macbook Pro running Maverick and the latest Kies. I was planning on waiting for the S5 to come out first before I upgrade the phone. Here is what worked for me..

After completing step #3, wait a couple of minutes to give Kies some time to recognize the phone. Thanks to this tip found in the comments here!

1. Unplug the USB cable

2. On the cell phone, dial the following number: *#7284# Once the last # is hit,
the PhoneUtil application is launched.
Choose USB -> Modem and then USB -> PDA mode.
The good mode should be PDA.
Even if the mode is PDA, switch to Modem and then back to PDA.

3. Plug the USB cable.

Now Kies should be able to find your phone..

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Ouch!

You should ask VZW to buy you a license to CompanionLink, since that fills the gaps left by Kies. For $39.95 (PM me for the $10 discount code), I'm sure they would do that to keep you as a customer.

Brilliant reply! I agree! Has anyone with Telus tried that? I have the Note 3, and this is driving me nuts.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Does anyone know whether any of the synchronisation packages will synchronise Outlook 2007 "To-Do lists" [in particular the "Follow Up" Reminders] to the Galaxy S4?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Does anyone think we can expect Samsung or Android to make an announcement at CES about the sync problem of their Kies 3 or will they continue to keep mum about this problem which is very annoying to their S4 owners? I for one will be waiting expectantly!

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Google's not going to make an announcement for a Samsung product, Kies has nothing to do with Google, it's all Samsung.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

In a previous post it was said that Samsung said it was Androids problem not theirs. Whatever the case surely Samsung should be concerned that their sales staff cannot claim that their Galaxy S4 phones can easily sync with the user's Outlook using their own app called Kies? You must agree that if we owned almost any other cell phone it will be easy to sync your Outlook with your phone without having to purchase some outside app to do so. Anyway Samsung and Kies claim in their published data that it can be done but as far as I know this has not been possible for many months now.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

I have been following this forum since November (when I purchased my new S4), and have also contacted Samsung about when these sync problems might be fixed... a useless exercise. I finally elected to spend the $25 and buy Akruto Sync last night. This thing works exactly as specified !!! and syncs my Outlook Contacts, Calendar etc. perfectly.
I chose the wi-fi option when I installed it. Now, when I make a change to either Outlook (on my PC) or on my S4, it automatically updates the other device... very cool.
If you go ahead and buy this, be sure to follow their installation instructions to the letter, including deleting your existing contacts and calendar on your phone... if not, it will produce double entries etc. on it's first sync (big pain).
I should have gone with Akruto weeks ago.

What made you choose that program? There are many out there, and I started the hunt, but no decision yet. The one that did show up on forums was Companion link. I did download the 14 trail version, but so far it just freezes up....

Also, does Akruto sync with the Outlook BCM (business contact manager)?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

I've worked it out.

I actually made two changes, I can't swear if you only need one, I've run out of energy to fix this.

The problem is either that Kies cannot access the data if it resides in an OST. Or that it cannot access the C:\Users\"YOUR NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" folder.

The solution works for me on Windows 7 with Outlook 2013. Try this at your own risk.

So I added a new PST file to my profile and stored this in: C:\Users\"YOUR NAME\Documents\Outlook Files"

To avoid messing with my outlook settings and breaking it all, I actually created a new profile and used it. That way I can always go back to the old one if something breaks... There are some instructions here: Edit an Outlook profile - Outlook - Office.com

Once you have your profile set up you will need to go back to the profile in control panel, choose properties and then data files. You can then create the new PST file. You must then make this the default file. This will put your contacts & calendar into the PST.

Start outlook, start Kies, watch the Sync work :-)

Samsung, you need to fix this properly. This is a dirty hack and shouldn't be required. It does make the outlook display more cluttered.

Have fun, Steve

I've noticed that Companionlink often have "a presence" on Threads/Forums dealing with syncing issues and frequently popup to promote/defend their product as they see fit. This could be why you see more references to Companionlink on forums.

To TOBusa...

I looked around a bit and found good reviews on Akruto from some of the online rating outfits.
Akruto has a free 7 day trial and a 90 day refund policy if you don't like it.
The package costs $25.00 so it's a small price to pay if it works, and it is working flawlessly for me so far.
I don't know if it supports BCM, but a quick email to them might get you an answer.
I mentioned that I use the Wi-Fi functionality. It also has internet functionality (the other instal option)
that lets you update remotely.
Hope this helps.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

An add-on to my last post. The review that sold me on Akruto can be found as follows:

Google "Akruto Sync Review", you will find one done in November by cnet.
Have a look at their comments, and the reviews of some users on that site.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Kies Sync Problems after Latest firmware updates! "unsupported device alert"

Using Note 3, Android 4.3, Verizon, Office ProPlus 2010 Outlook v14, Kies 3.2.13114_22. Outlook data in PST file.

Kies sync kinda works....calendar is fine, and most of the contact data ports down.... but not contact emails. Contact name phone address sync but emails stay on the PC.

Even odder, I can create a contact on the Note 3 and the info including email syncs up to the PC. I can delete it on the phone and sync, works fine.

So emails created on the phone sync up/down, but emails created in Outlook don't sync down. Weird.

I tried Akruto.... it creates a MSFT Exchange Server connection to your phone over your wifi. Didn't work for me because I have 3 Outlook profiles on my PC (me wife daughter) and Akruto wants to use just the first profile. You can't select a different one. Pity since it would have worked fine had I been able to pick a different profile.

A thousand thanks! And what twats are Samsung for not letting you specify the path to Outlook folders from within the clunking piece of shight that is Kies 3.2.
Many thanks again!
