Yes!!! Kies just updated to 3.2.13114_22 and SYNC is now back. Hooray!!!!!!

Sync is back but not working on the contacts. I was able to sync the calendar and it worked great but contacts are a different story. Gets to 90% (but nothing is sync'd) then Kies shuts down. I tried rebooting my PC and only having Kies open but same thing. Hope they have a fix soon.

I just uploaded the Kies 3 upgrade. The sync buttons are back but still it will not perform the calender sync. I did not bother to try the contacts. I guess we have to wait for an update of the update!

This is a fix taken from a guy called Waldys on another thread.

Bit long winded but it works

IN OUTLOOK
On the computer, launch Microsoft Outlook.
Click File.
Click Open.
Click Import.
Click Export to a file.
Click Next.
Click Comma Separated Values (Windows).
Click Next.
Click Contacts, Calendar, etc.
Click Next.
Click Browse and choose a location to save the CSV file (for example, on the desktop).
Click Next.
Click Finish.
IN GMAIL (on a browser on the PC)
Launch a web browser and navigate to Gmail (gmail.com).
Log in to your Gmail account.
Click Contacts.
Click More.
Click Import.
Select the CSV file with your contacts.
Click Import.
The contacts have been imported into Gmail.
ON THE PHONE
On the phone, touch Apps.
Scroll to and touch Settings.
Touch Accounts.
Touch Google.
Touch your Google account.
Touch "Sync now".

And that should do it.

Now my problem is this works but I have an issue with Outlook contacts that had not come to light earlier.

I have several folders of contacts depending on friends/work/tennis etc. and there is a folder at the top named Contacts with my email address in light grey.

When I have tried syncing as per Waldys fix only contacts in this folder are chosen.

Now I have tried copying all my contacts to this folder, but get message "Cannot move the items.One or more e-mail addresses are not in a valid format. All e-mail addresses must be typed in the following format: daniel@conteso.com"

Some of my contacts do not have e-mail addresses and this is the reason I am geting this message. I have dragged individual contacts with e-mail addresses sucessfully, but those with no e-mail address bring up the message.

So the question am I saving and setting my contact folders in Outlook correctly?

When in Kies and sync the only folder to sync from when asked is the contacts with my email address.

I have now copied all my main contacts to the contacts "email address" folder

i don't think Samsung value customer relationship. first was taken for a ride & got trap. didn't aware that samsung wants to cut off users from outlook. they shld just be honest & said if you upgrade to kies 3 you loose the ability to sync with outlook. i follow up with an email with them and the reply was equally disappointing ! the reply was to sync with google instead and they are looking into putting the capability back (? when). alas when i saw there was an update today, i quickly update kies 3 & happy one moment but continue to be pissed off. now the latest update show you shld be able to sync outlook. but when i tried to sync, it said cannot retrieve information for outlook folder. look like they are full of craps but capable of coping only.

Also downloaded latest update - Sync button was back - Yay!
Tried to Sync... looked like it did, once... now the calendar won't sync at all. Gets to 20%, then bombs out with error message - Boooo! !! Extremely Iratating. .. All my contacts emails have also been duplicated in Outlook. Going to take me a long time to fix all of that... Aargh! ! Can Samsung not just release a decent enough version for 4.3 that actually work! ?!?

So much for Father Christmas. Kies 3.2.13114_22 synced with Outlook 2010 (Windows 7) twice with my Galaxy S3, but now I get an unexplained error every time on schedule. Kies giveth and Kies taketh away.

You're so lucky, at least you managed to sync twice! I have never managed to sync once so far.

I used to use Samsung Kies to connect and backup my phone but however after upgrading Kies to the latest version Kies 3
Samsung Kies just wont connect to my Samsung Galaxy S4. I get a message from Samsung Kies on my PC that Failed to Connect
Device Connection or use maybe restricted if device access (including writing) is prohibited by your computers security
program, or any other reason AND I get a message on my phone that Unable to find software on your PC that can recognise
your device. Service Pack 3, Windows Media Player, version 10 or higher, for Windows XP or Android File Transfer MAC OS
must be installed. You can download and install PC Kies from SAMSUNG KIES in order to sync data with your
device, back up data, and upgrade your device (windows and Mac OS are supported). I USE WINDOWS 7 AND HAVE THE LATEST
VERSION OF WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER PLEASE HELP I HAVE HAD IT WITH SAMSUNG AND THEIR CRAPPY SOFTWARE!!

I still unable to sync S4 with the latest Kies 3. When I open the Kies 3.0, in sync page, once I click on "select all" and the "sync" tab, the whole application stop and disappeared! Now I totally unable to sync my S4 using Kies 2 and Kies 3 with my PC (Windows XP), any one can help??

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as Lee. When you try to check any boxes on the sync tab the application screen disappears. When I check the processes screen on the task manager Kies is still running. I have to stop the process before I can re-launch Kies again. Everything seems to work except the sync tab.

Terrible situation. I'm an attorney and I need to carry an updated Calendar with me to court. Won't sync and I cannot roll back to an earlier version of my operating system. Samsung Support essentially told me TOO BAD! Buy another phone. This is the last Samsung phone I will buy. I recommend that everyone keep this in mind the next time you buy a phone.

I have the galaxy s3, AND the crap kies software is WITH windows 8. (The hell ALL my friends have iphones and they never have this issues, I am the only one who still fights for android FREEDOM of doing stuff, everytime the war over phones IS on with my friends, I defend samsung and android like a freaking lion, I WIN, then I get home connect my phone and find that the thing does not works...FREAKING AWESOME!!! you little samsung hoe) Three months ago I was able to do everything with windows vista. But, now I can not even connect the S3 to windows 8 because it does not even recognizes it.
I want to kick someone from Samsung in one nut very precisely....

I am using airdroid to transfer back and fort, but have to use wireless at home and eats lots of bandwidth. ALSO, I CAN NOT ROOT my phone because how the hell I am going to root the phone if the USB connection is not recognized...And ANDROID without rooting is like being a ***** little bi$%^-slave of the conglomerate

I think samsung gives a f$%^ about users experience. They just care about selling the device, and then we are by our own because android is not THEIR MOTTO. Because they sold so much devices, now they got all their money back and want to tell us very succinctly ...F % ^* YOU VERY MUCH!

Great way to make customers you samsung little bit%^...

Same thing. I updated Kies3, which had synced nicely before, and find I now can't control the direction of sync. I NEED my Outlook address book to sync from PC to Galaxy S4, because the PC is what I work on, and it is easier to edit on a full keyboard screen. Anyway, I tried syncing even though it said it would update in both directions, hoping it might ask me to choose if the two devices had different addresses. But it didn't. My PC Outlook now has duplicates and stuff I don't want, and my Galaxy has imported some orphan email addresses from my PC, not sure why.
This is terrible. Great hardware, frankly bad software (unpredictable, not common-sense). I almost bought an HTC One, might have bought an iPhone (my wife has one, but then she's a Mac user), maybe should have researched it all better? But I never expected that such an amazing piece of hardware with a cazillion buyers would be so badly let down by the software. Not sure what I'd say if someone asked me what phone to buy.
Samsung, if you are listening... Do you care, or are you too busy raking in the cash?

I am having the same problem as listed above. I have a new S4 and the newest version of Kies. I also have Windows 7. I can't control the direction of the syncing and after 1 successful sync, it hasn't worked since.

My only apprehension from switching from the Apple iPhone to the Samsung S4 was the need to have a clean and easy sync with MS Outlook.
Kies was the only vehicle which proved to suffice albeit not so clean.
Now, instead of moving forward to improve the software, we have an Obama rollout which becomes frustratingly inoperative.
From someone who writes software. I can assure you that this would never be acceptable in my world.
