Samsung Pay Discussion

Re: FINALLY Got a Card Accepted... SamPay Didn't Work!

Ugggh I don't even want to try it now! Do you have to push anything after entering your pin? Just hold phone over the reader?

Just try it.
It's amazing, and extremely convenient.
You don't need to enter your PIN, just your fingerprint - the PIN capability is there for when your print won't work - which, for me, is rare.
If you walk around with your credit cards out, and in your hand, it's hard to beat using a card. I have to agree with the previous poster.

But, when I am shopping, my cards are in my wallet, and my phone is in my hand. So it makes sense, and is easier, to use SP.
Plus, unlike Apple pay, it works just about everywhere.
Love it!

There are several youtube videos on how to hold it. I've tried mine a few times, but Walmart doesn't work well with AmExpress and so I've only used it twice on my vending machine and it worked great. At walmart I tried on the self serve cash register and the one with the cashier. I also used it at the laundry mat. I only tried it on the dyer, it worked for 3 payments, since it dries in minute increments, I could only do 3 before it locked up. But it will be great on the larger washers that require only one swipe for one payment. I just don't use cash enough anymore and the extra large washers for blankets and such takes over $10 in quarters. They don't take dollar bills.

For the vending machine at work, it was easier then getting in my locked drawer, unzip my purse, unzip my wallet and take out my card, lock up my drawer, (then repeat in reverse to replace my card so it's secure). I just take my phone off my desk (which is locked with my fingerprint). I was hoping this would be easier at the store as I found a purse with a large back pocket that actually fits my Note 5 with extra room. And I usually look at my phone while waiting in line (better then the trash tabloids).

If you'd like to learn more about it, there's a discussion area for Samsung Pay (under Apps, Mobile Payments, Samsung Pay). I keep reading that for more tips and information on Samsung Pay. But this is a good general thread as well.

TRY what this poster (Paul Rezendes) put in another thread.

I've been getting better and getting mine to work. I talked to a rep at one of the Samsung booths the other day while in a BestBuy. He told me to pull the phone away immediately once the terminal beeps. Ive done that and havent had an issue since. Even at a few places I was getting the decline message at before. He said some terminals think you are swiping over and over if you leave the phone on them for to many pulses.

I have a chip card. At places that don't work with the swipe but require the chip slot, I can't use Samsung Pay. I've heard that most cards will move to chips next year.

If that is true then Samsung Pay with become obsolete soon.

Although just because cards will have chips, it doesn't mean that all merchants will have chip readers. And, any chip reader can read nfc, which also is party of Samsung pay. So it all still works. Samsung would not have invested this way for a solution which would not be strategic and long term in their view. (Eg vs a solution with a 6 month shelf life)

My cards are chipped and they are set up using Samsung Pay. Dave is correct.

Some places I went to, I was told the chip reader isn't set up yet, so I had to swipe my chip card instead.

I had to contact sheetz ( gas station that is popular where I'm at) and have been in contact with there people about samsung pay because it wouldn't work for some reason. I recently talked to one of there people who handle the payment system and they are fixing the problem

Re: American Express and Samsung Pay

When adding cards you have to get and enter a verification code. On my US bank cards it gave me option to receive code via text or email or phone call. The Amex only gave me email option.

My bank only gave the option to call in for verification. I was able to verify my card and add a 2nd one while on the phone had the wifi on too. The activation was within seconds that my banker approved. I felt like a kid at christmas.

Tried it out tonight and got some serious "WOWS" at Ulta. Wouldn't work at TJ Maxx, but worked fine at Kohl's. It's neat.....but i think using my card might be easier? I'll keep testing it out.

Not nearly as cool though

I tried it at Kaiser Hospital.... just kept getting errors. Then at walmart... it didn't play well. I agree that its fun to try...but not ready to leave my card at home yet.

I'm surprised it didn't work at Walmart. I haven't had any issues there.

Same here. I'm used to carrying around a couple cards. I've been in a situation where my debit card won't work at one location for no apparent reason but another would. But with Samsung pay i feel comfortable enough to just carry one card. (The one not on the phone)

The biggest benefit I see by using SP is that your actual credit card number is not revealed, so in case someone breaks into that stores system, your credit info cannot be compromised.

I haven't had any trouble at WalMart but I struck out at Wawa, Old Navy, Macy's and Target (which I thought would certainly work). I'm afraid to even try it basically at this point (having to pull my card out anyway has gotten me annoyed stares at least once from customers waiting behind me). I was soooo excited to finally be able to use SamPay but so far (overall) it really hasn't been a good experience for me. :(

Samsung Pay worked for me in just about all of those places with the exception of Wawa. I don't know what that store is.
