Samsung you're in serious trouble if you think people will pay $1000 for a phone

I can type way faster on a traditional keyboard as well. But my kids, and their friends, and their friends can crank out more words per minute on their phones and tablets than I can on a keyboard...and I'm fairly proficient at typing.

If you don't believe me though, all you have to look at are sales trends for the under-30 crowd. Smartphones are outselling PCs and Macs and have been for several years now. Laptops and desktops certainly have their place in the workforce for professional use, and I don't see that changing anytime in the near future, but for personal use (young) people aren't using computers anymore.

Young people don't email. They text, they facebook, they snapchat...all from their phone. Chromebooks are popping up in schools around the country and given to kids at the beginning of the year, so in the event they actually do need to type a lengthy report, they've got that available to them to use, but other than that there is practically no use for computers outside of work for millenials and their successors.

I agree with this for the most part. Though I have kids that use laptops to watch Netflix, play games, do homework and chat. All their friends do too.

Also, you can't really use sales #s of phones compared to laptops as proof of much, even though I agree with the conclusion.. People want new phones every year or 2. No one needs a new laptop every year or 2, so of course more phones will be sold. Also, once there are a # of PCs in a household, there is generally little need to continue buying with any frequency.

IMO once young people have to use a laptop for something (schoolwork, etc), they do tend to start to use it for some other things - but obviously not nearly as much as they use their phones.

Record sales, they will line up from here to Timbuctoo! With carrier financing cost will not matter! Ahh, return of the s pen. Duel camera's OIS on front & rear shooters. 6gbs, the 835 processer will help with the battery!

It's too darn expensive

Am I the only one who thinks it's just not worth it?

I mean $1,000 is a lot regardless but even more so when you have the S8+ out for like $300 less and lose very little imo.

Oh and don't for the S8 Active which is a power users dream with that 4,000mah battery

What do you guys think?

I do think the value is there over the S8 IF the display is better and the camera is much better. Otherwise, they're basically the same phone.

Guess my post got merged in here lol... Thanks mods

If you wait a little after launch, you are bound to find a good deal.

Black Friday is around the corner (relatively speaking), not to mention like with the S8 Plus, there will be random deals here and there.

If you pay full retail and don't get any kind of rebate or free gifts with purchase, you're doing it very, very wrong.

My 128GB iPhone 6S+ was $1,000 after taxes. People will pay for a phone that they want. I read Note 8 will be sold unlocked for $950 for preorders.

I paid $850 for my unlocked S8+ at Bestbuy and do not regret that. It's a great phone.

I am 47 and I have a laptop at work (company assigned), a Surface Pro (2017) with keyboard to use as a personal computer, Huawei MediaPad 8 inch android tablet and a Galaxy S8+.

If I could just use my Surface at work with a dock I probably would. I use the Surface for anything my tablet or phone cant handle, plus it is nice when I travel. The tablet is for when I am just sitting around the house surfing the web and reading Twitter or Facebook. I rarely even watch YouTube on it, I will just cast that to my TV.

All my devices have their uses, and I agree you can't just say phones sell more so they are what people are using. Tablets and Computers have a longer life as a lot of people will use them for 2-5 years and phone are a 1-2 year purchase. Plus lots of people can only afford a phone or a tablet, which would you think they will buy? You have to have a phone, the other items are luxuries.

Anyhow, back on topic, the Note 8 is not $1000 so this topic is kinda dead...LOL

I am at the point now where I only lease phones.... Trade in and pick up a new one after a year...LOL

So my S8+ only cost me $25.50 x 12 = $306 for the year.

The Note 8 will only cost $393 for the year then on to the Note 9, woo hoo. (Plus tax and upgrade fee)

Hmmm. I gave my thoughts. But, this thread was merged and my post disappeared .
Anyways, way too long winded to reconstruct.
Basically,it has more than what appears on the surface.

I think there are plenty who will pay near $1,000 for this phone. I am hoping there is some extra discount to turn in an S7 Edge. I am not holding my breath. $920 is a lot for a phone, that's for sure but people will pay it.

Most people don't stay with a device for over a year there's many others like me who stay with one for 6 months so we truly never pay the full retail price

$930 from TMO comes out to just over $1K. That's steep.

Don't forget cases. If you buy the Defender or the Speck cases that cost $$ for the Note. Looking at around $1100 for it all together then.

I got the S8 Plus. IMO if you have the S8 is to hold off a couple months and see if Sammy or Best Buy does the same thing like the S8 and runs sales on it. If they knock a couple hundred off it, or Best Buy offers the gift card with it.

You just won't get the free SD card or camera if you wait.
