Screen goes black when I'm on a call and try to use the pull down menu.

This happened with my S3 as well. When I'm on a phone call and would like to use the features in the pull down menu, the screen goes black and I can't touch it. This sometimes happens when I go to use the keypad to "press 1 to continue" when automated calls. It's so frustrating. Has anyone else experienced this?? It's like playing whack-a-mole with the screen popping on and off when I'm on a phone call.

Welcome to Android Central! Does it only happen when you reach your finger to swipe down the notification panel, or does the screen immediately go blank when the call starts? It's most likely a problem with the proximity sensor, but it could be due to something blocking it (like a screen protector or poorly fitting case) or a faulty sensor.

Swipe down from the right hand side. The proximity sensor is on the left and it's just picking up your motion.
