Screen Scratch Resistance Question

Quick question - is the screen more susceptible to scratching than the area surrounding it?

I have been using the Verizon screen protector since getting the phone on the first day and overall it's been fine. It does, however, collect fingerprints and smudges easily and I have a habit of just rubbing it on any soft cloth nearby (pant leg, shirt, etc) to clean it.

The screen protector has developed quite a few hairline scratches, however, since it only covers the screen, the rest of the front of the phone is still exposed. So far I don't see any scratches above or below the protector while I wipe the entire front of the phone to clean it.

My question therefore is whether the screen will be as resistant to scratching as the rest of the front of the phone appears to be.

thanks!!

The screen is part of the same piece of glass as the rest of the screen. It is just as durable as any other part of the glass.
