Seems like V30 is going to be the best phone

Thanks to the edges the Samsung screens seem even narrower.

Agree on the S8 and S7 phones, but not the Note 8. It doesn’t curve hardly at all at the edges due to you having a writing surface. It’s a much nicer phone.

Seems most of the comments here are people who have yet to hold a Note 8 and seen it in person. Stop trying to make your V30 look good. It’s a nice phone, but its still a step below the Note.

ALL of the comments here are from people who have yet to hold a V30...

That's fine if you think it's a step below but not everyone is going to agree... And they aren't wrong since it's their opinions. If we all agreed there would only be one phone :).

That's good then, they must have just removed it from the G6 as I know the V20 etc did have it by swiping across the Nav Keys. I just couldn't understand why they'd do that after stretching the screen

G6 has one hand mode... Just swipe across the bottom on screen buttons

They must have only recently reintroduced it then because it 100% wasn't there when I had mine

If I felt the Note was the best phone, I would buy it. There's nothing wrong with the Note... It just has nothing that makes me want to buy it. If I was going to go Samsung I would just get the S8+ since I would never use the S-pen.

You really need to read up on the Note 8. It has a lot more features than the Spen on the S8.

I don't need to read up on anything especially at the snarky intent of your message. What makes you think I haven't read up on it? It doesn't offer anything I want that I couldn't get on a S8+. The S8+ doesn't do it for me either... Just using it as an example because if I did want a Samsung I don't need the extra features or specs of the Note.
The V30 is the better phone for me not you.

I held and used a Note 8 last night at the Samsung Experience popup exhibition in downtown Toronto last night. I was surprised at how my S7 actually felt more premium, and how God-awful the fingerprint scanner placement was on the device. I was practising for a min pressing the scanner and it was awkward, and I had no chance doing it with one hand.

The edges were not too bad for me though, which I was pleasantly surprised about. Playing with the stylus and writing on the lockscreen is nifty.

But I walked away knowing that i would have to abandon the fingerprint scanner if I used this device. I would put a case on it, so I didn't care if the phone felt a little cheaper than my S7 (maybe it was the weight, but the metal felt kinda plasticy...at first I thought it was a dummy display device until the screen came alive and I was able to use the stylus and take pics, etc).

Should people buy the "best phone" available, if there is an objective way to determine which one that would be... or should they buy the one that they want most?

IMO, people should buy whatever phone they want most. Even if specs are capable of determining the best phone, not everyone wants or needs the best. That's the same with any other items people buy.
