Should I get Nexus Protect?

awesome ... did you get a case with it? smart move with the insurance. enjoy, such a great phone.

Yeah, I got the carpet case. For some reason I like the way that one looks. I also ordered a DBrand skin, screen protectors from Spigen and another case from Spigen. I went all in. I'm selling my 6s Plus, my Mac, and my Apple TV. Don't get me wrong, I like my Apple stuff, but I've always been an Android guy. I like some customization. Apple is just way too closed in for me. And I can sell my Apple stuff and go back to Android and make a nice chunk of change!

That's a good point... Having a phone that carries an insurance policy, provided you haven't used any/all the accidental damage claims, is a good selling point.

Exactly. I believe it also extends the manufacturer warranty for an extra year, so it gives another prospective buyer some peace of mind that if something goes wrong they're covered. Just in case they get a lemon or damage the phone.

lol, I did the same exact thing. microfiber Nexus case, which is awesome but taking a screenshot is difficult till you figure out how to manipulate it. it looks awesome though and it's so comfortable to hold. I take care of my phones, but I'm surprised that it doesn't collect any lint and stays so clean.

Also grabbed the Spigen TGSP which fit fine and looked great, but I eventually (less than 48 hours) took it off. I just like the feel and look of the natural screen. Have the Spigen clear case too, and probably in a few months I'll slap it on with my dbrand skin (black matte, rear only, carbon over visor, and red Nexus X).

With phones I would never consider iOS, but I love my MacBook and iPad Mini. Also like the iPod nano for its lightweight when running. I actually use my Chromebook a lot more than my MacBook, but there's obviously some programs where it's needed.

Have fun and enjoy your 6p! Hands down the best phone I've ever owned or used. Might even be my favorite electronic device I've ever owned. Approaching 3 months and I still have that feeling that comes with a purchase your extremely happy with. Samsung LED TV and MacBook are the other ones I liked as much!

I had heard there was an issue with taking screenshots, but that it wasn't impossible. I'm glad the case stays clean, I'm very tech OCD. I bought the regular screen protectors, not the TGSP one. Got a few in the package if I mess one up.

I really like my iPhone, honestly. I just don't think it's worth the extra money. It is better in some respects and worse in others. I also can't stand that I can't customize anything. It seems counter intuitive. And I feel like I'm less productive because I only have a sea of apps on my home screens.

I also ordered a Chromebook. We have a decent family laptop and a Chromebook will cover 98% of what I actually do with a laptop. And then I already have a Nexus Player that I got at Target for $25 in December. So I'm going all back in with Google.

I hope I love it. Some of the issues I've read about do worry me a little bit, but I think they'll hopefully get taken care of soon and this will be the device I'm looking for.

So, did you get your 6p? Is it better than your active and if so why?

I did get the 6P on Friday. I love it. There are some physical things that are better on the S6 active, like the IP68 rating, the rear camera, and the ruggedness of the device, but some physical things about the 6P are better, like the gold metal, the fingerprint sensor, and the front-facing speakers. But software wise, the 6P is the clear winner.

I'll still use my S6 active when I go out in the field to work just because I need a rugged water-resistant phone outside.

Thanks! The larger size an issue? Battery life?

No. The larger size isn't an issue. I've used the Note 5 before for work. The battery life is good. I'm getting about 3 hours SoT at 50%.

Just ordered a frost 64gb 6P from swappa and it has protect. I paid about $40 more than similar listings but that means I got a discount on the protect as well as the device since I won't be paying tax. Also include two cases one of which is the microfiber one.

I'm coming from a 5x that I sold and I also have an iPhone 6s Plus. Very excited about my 6P!

For anyone purchasing the Nexus 6p, I advise purchasing Nexus protect or at least squaretrade. iFixit gave this device a repairability score of 2 out of 10, so you know the screen will be difficult to replace if needed. Also, I have a story to share of my own:

I've owned tons of smartphones since the days of the Palm Treos. I have NEVER, EVER cracked a screen...until two days after I received my brand new Nexus 6P (and it was in a case at the time!). Imagine my anguish when I couldn't get my phone repaired - I didn't buy nexus protect or square trade. I called three local repair shops - two of them told me that they couldn't replace my screen and the 3rd one told me that they could at a cost of $310 and I would have to wait for 2 weeks for them to receive the proper parts. Google does not do repairs, so my last ditch effort was Huawei themselves. Thank God that they agreed to repair it for free for me (I believe as like a one-time courtesy) but it will take me about a month to get my phone back. I bought a 6P for my husband and believe me when I say the next thing I did was purchased a squaretrade warranty because this was not happening again!

So I would advise anyone who is considering purchasing a Nexus 6P to either carry your phone in a tank of a case and screen protector, or buy some kind of extended warranty/insurance protection.

I did end up purchasing Nexus Protect for my 6P because I didn't want to experience what you experienced. It really sucks you have to wait a month to get your phone back.

Yeah, but at least they are fixing it for free, so I really can't complain about it. I just have to be patient. And be sure and slap that screen protector on it as soon as I get it.

That's the thing about insurance... it's all a bit of a gamble. Will it be worth the cost? In some cases, with a lot of the carrier-sourced phones and Assurion plans, that is starting to get more and more "Nope." Assurion just jacked up their rates across the board, both monthly and the deductibles.

The whole 6P display subassembly seems to run about $90... and that's not even factoring in what appears to be a replacement process that's a royal pain. Now, yes... you might be back a referb unit rather than a NIB... but once some dude rips your 6P apart to replace the screen, how is that compared to a factory referb unit?

Yes, that's the insurance game. The customer bets on needing it. The insurance carrier bets that you won't.

I've had handset issues in the past while out of warranty or following a nasty drop. Sometimes I find a good deal on the secondary market. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes it makes more sense to buy a new handset rather than spend the money on a used one.

The thing is I can't say until it happens. With insurance, I know how much it will cost me in advance. I can plan/budget for that expense or pro-rate it for the term of the insurance. That's the advantage. Predictability. It's worth something.

Yes... that was a big factor. I looked at the situation... It's a completely new phone, so third party hardware and repair channels are going to be extremely limited. Second, this isn't going to be a huge selling phone as it is directly purchased from still-limited sources at full retail price. And lastly, Huawei is extremely new to the US market, so their domestic presence is extremely limited.

Now, I am sure I could get this repaired myself if need be, but I am going to assume it'll take a little bit of time to get the replacement parts and then either do it myself or find a shop that'll fix it properly (remember, most might be seeing this phone for the first time... rather than being the 10,000ths iPhone 5 screen they've replaced).

With Protect, I'll have a non-busted up, working phone in my hand in a matter of a few days. And I deal with Google (then Assurion in year 2 I think)... so the process will be a lot smoother.
