Signed Bootloader, are you still getting it?

Toast has said he will be getting an EVO 3D...do we all really think this thing wont be cracked open and flush with ROM's, CM7, etc etc?

Yep, it wont be. Unless he knows how to perform extraction :p Or he seduces someone on HTC's tech team who gives up the signed keys.

I'm not expert but I'd venture that the device is too popular for that to happen.

Without someone that works at HTC leaking an HBOOT that does NOT have these protections like happened for the Thunderbolt, there is no known way to get around it whatsoever without brute forcing the keys, which would take somewhere around 250,000 years for 256bit keys.

I was upset, but finding that the Tbolt had the same problem I am a little releived. Maybe if we have a good developing community the bootloader can be unlocked.

The thunderbolt was locked down exactly how the Evo 3d is, but with help from the developers, the phone was unlocked and gained full root. So I believe that as long as we have a good developing community the bootloader can be unlocked.

Dude, gaining root access is not the issue, that can probably be done. You will never get a custom ROM for it though.

I don't think some of you all get it; we will not, ever, get custom ROMs and kernels in the vein of CyanogenMod without HTC leaking an engineering dump of some sort. Look at the Droid X, look at the Droid 2, those are two hugely popular devices, but popularity has nothing to do with it and neither does developer support. If it's locked, it's locked, and there is absolutely no way around that.

Daaaam, I wanted to get it so bad but after rooting my evo I discover a whole new world n now I thought I was really gonna b able to root the evo 3d, I think I'm still gonna get it though

As long as I can root it and delete all the Sprint bloatware I'll be happy.

If we cannot get S-OFF you will not be able to delete anything, you will only be able to freeze some apps with tools like my own Bloat Freezer and Titanium Backup Pro.

Thanks so much for providing feedback, we hear your concerns. Your satisfaction is a top priority for us and we're working hard to ensure you have great experiences with our phones. We're reviewing the issue and our policy around bootloaders and will provide more information soon. Thank you for your interest, support and willingness to share your feedback.

Not over yet.

toast & the best devs at xda will not be able to bypass encryption. just because htc responded does not mean the phone will suddenly shipped unlocked.
