Software update info page is up... OTA right around the corner?

Well I emailed Verizon to cancel my free hotspot thing they gave thunderbolt buyers till may 15th and when I got emailed back the guy said that it would be removed when the software update comes out on may 15th.

i wonder if the sms update fixes the 1 left meaning unread if u back out to soon before that clears...i hate that! only way i found to fix that is clear everything but then u have to reset tones and chit

I spoke to a buddy at Verizon and he mentioned that the 2.3 update is supposed to be coming to the Thunderbolt in the next couple of weeks! Can't wait!

Use MyBackup Pro. It works for rooted and unnrooted. Backs all your app data and phone settings.

I use Titanium Backup Pro, but according to the thread here, it said that I should:

Never Never Never restore system data from Titanium or any other backup program when moving to a new ROM. The system data from your old ROM will interfere with the new ROM every time.

I assume the OTA will change the ROM and the phone settings are "system data", hence I can only do restore of the app data (which is quite fast, actually) but the re-configurations and re-rooting will take a loooong time.

Now I've never rooted or used backups but system data backups should be different than app backups. Apps are a pain to reinstall but system settings and accounts/syncs couldn't take more than 5 minutes to get back in order.

Oh, I was referring to a COLLECTIVE restore effort, which in my case would be:
1). Reinstall all apps
2). Re-configure each apps settings
3). Put back apps backup data (Finance, Network, etc..etc..)
4). Reconfigure systems apps (Such as Folders, which means create new folder, putting apps in each folder, change folders icons, etc.)
5). Reconfigure systems settings (ringtone, screen timeout)
6). Re-root again

So putting ALL of these together in a NEW ROM will definitely takes HOURS.

If it's not a new ROM, then I can simply use Titanium Backup Pro.

Please forgive my newbness here. This is my first Droid phone and now my first OTA. It's non-rooted.

Does the OTA update wipe any data? I really don't want to lose my Angry Birds scores. OK, only kidding about Angry Birds, but I am curious about the other apps, e-mails, SMS, various device settings, contacts, calendar, etc. Would MyBackup Pro take care of this for me?

Also, is there a good thread that I missed which talks about the OTA process?

Thank you.

I am in the same boat as you. Hoping this is a flawless OTA and I wont have to reinstall everything.

Just in case that does happen, I made a Word file and listed all my screens. All my apps, shortcuts and widgets.

My BlackBerry bricked so many times that I got used to setting everything up again.

But at least on Android contacts, calendar, apps are all backed up.

Everything else, like photos and documents I save to the memory card.

A lot of apps have a backup and restore option as well. I also use Astro file manager to back up apps.
As far as emails, they seem to be saved in my gmail account online until I delete them there so that's covered .

well i dont know about you guys but the only thing that the leaked update fixed on my phone was the video sound. gps still takes a long time to lock on, battery life still is horrible, dont know what else to do with this phone but chuck it in the trash i'm losing my patience with it.

Function over form. My ugly device lasts 26 hours! Who you trying to impress with your phone anyway? Chicks at the bar?

My rooted Thunderbolt lasts longer than 26 hours with moderate to heavy use. No need for an extended battery. I'm not sure what people do with their phones that cause the battery to drain quick but I have no problems getting at LEAST one full day of use.

I unplugged my Bolt this morning at 5:30 cinstant sync of yahoo mail and gmail and hourly for facebook and twitter. received a few texts and a few emails this morning and I am just below the full battery on my icon. Thats 10 hrs ago. I do notice though that when I really start using it for d/l's and browsing it does suck up the battery.

You are in the minority dude.

Brand new TBolt and I got 3-5 hours. Of STANDBY time.

Added/removed email accounts, turned off push data - even left @ a Verizon store for a day.

I'm tired of hearing that "people need to learn how to use the (Android) phone."

I got 2-3 days on my BlackBerry 9650 and over a day and a half on my new AT&T iPhone.

My wife got <1 day on her Incredible/Eris with the OEM battery, and a little more on the aftermarket one from VZW.

Could it be bad batteries from HTC? Hmm - they are a cheap Taiwanese company, no?

Fuel cell in a phone.

Say it out loud and tell me what you think.
