I have purchased a Droid DNA and am connected to an international GSM carrier. The phone does not allow software updates as the option is greyed out saying Software Update only works in CDMA mode. Upon trying to select CDMA (just to see if it works), the carrier is not detected, naturally, and the check now button does not respond. In the regular GSM or Global Mode, Status shows the Source: Verison Wireless (though I am not connected to Verizon at all).

Can somebody please suggest how I can update the software without rooting the handset? Im referring to the recent software update which was launched on 14-Feb-2013.

I believe the update was pushed out by VZW not HTC so you may be out of luck.

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Android Central Forums

Thanks for the response ddsrepair. Do you think it would be possible in any way to copy the image of the new update and after unlocking the bootloader be able to flash the VZW image onto the phone instead of a non-stock ROM? I had rooted my Nexus S earlier and the mods were quite unstable so it is preferable to stick with stock OS as far as possible. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

On other HTC phones that I have had on VZW, HTC has released an RUU (basically an .exe file that will update your phone that you can run manually from a computer) after VZW has pushed the update, but it typically is weeks or months later, but I have been able to download them from HTC. I haven't had occasion to look for them for more than a year (I've been using a Galaxy Nexus). There is also a 3rd party website that collects and hosts these RUU files, although HTC recently forced them to change their domain name, and I don't remember the new one (I think the old domain name was htcruu or something like that).

The quickest and best option to keep your phone current is to bootloader unlock and s-off your phone. You can then manually update the radio. There is a ROM made out of the update that is almost stock, however it does have root. You can easily delete the root from it. It doesn't have any of the "bells and whistles" of custom rom's that you seem to have had a bad experience with. That would be the easiest way to update now and in the future.

Hey even I have been using htc droid dna in India so naturally global mode. But I was able to update it. Hope you are not rooted then just try this way..
1. Remove the SIM card and put the phone to CDMA mode.
2. Reboot the phone and it'll show no network in CDMA mode.
3. Connect to a wifi nearby and hit check new software update with battery being min 30%.
4. Wow!! Now its downloading the update.

I didn't have luck with this...
It says "searching for updates" but then the window just disappears.

I am on a GSM network and can't update the device.

I've tried it and I got the update and updates the phone also.. Try once again since even for me it worked the same but then just got update. Just remember to remove the sim from phone..

I m using HTC DROID DNA mobile in India. I am not getting 3g network (umts or cdma mode) here in htc droid dna handset but in gsm mode network registered easily and work properly. Can anybody help me please.

phone will not work for cdma sims. u can register ur meid(ESN) to reliance cdma bcas they support it. u cannot use it sim based. the phone is unlocked for GSM only. so u ll not be able to use it for CDMA.

I am not getting 3g network of India in HTC Droid Dna, only 2g network support, while another handset are working properly in 3g network. If anybody in India has solved this problem then please suggest me what to do because lots of changes I have done in network connectivity but did not get any success.
