SOLUTION: No data problem

I just have to chime in here... this "No Data Connection" issue is a BIG DEAL. There is no "fix" that we can do. It will be HTC that can "do" it.

All we can do is manually toggle-around to make the data connection "reappear". But I would not call this a "fix".

Had this issue on my phone a few hours after I bought it. Brought it to VZW they did a hard reset and no issue yet.

I tried putting it into airplane mode and back off airplane mode myself before reading this thread, to no avail. Hmm.

VZW rep said he had a few other customers with same issues.

By "Hard Reset" do you mean Factory reset?

I've found that just tapping twice on the "Wireless Network" setting (thereby turning it off, then on) is the quickest way to get it back.

But... I would appreciate you checking in on this again after a while and let us know if the issue has resurfaced.

Update to my previous post:

Last night, I ended up wiping my phone. Upon restart, I did have data and voice again.

Today, I called VZ about it, asking if there had been an issue last night in my area (Northeastern Ohio) and she said yes.

So....I probably wasted alot of time resetting my phone and all my settings, and the regaining of connection/data was going to happen anyway.

Ultimately, VZ is clearly having ongoing issues with their network. I am HOPEFUL that they get resolved quickly.

It is stressful never knowing if your phone is reliable. I no longer have a landline, and my only connection to my children is through our cell phones. It's uncomfortable not knowing since the 17th whether or not my kids can reach me if needed.

Not to be rude, but I think that's obvious. I purposely didn't call it a "fix" I hardly know what the problem is, and it's well above my head to dive into the radio or kernel and tidy things up. In the end, whatever you choose to call it, whether it's a fix, solution, etc. is just semantics.

I got good results from this method, the VZW tech confirmed that it worked (at least for some) and I shared it as "A" solution. I've had no problems since trying this method, and the only other suggestion from VZW was to do a factory reset. My reason for posting this was so maybe I could save even ONE other poor schmuck from having to wipe their whole phone.

I had this same problem and accidentally stumbled the same fix when I went to enable wifi and accidentally hit airplane mode.

I was just wondering. The people experiencing this problem, are any of you running any sort of power saving application? I was having this issue and I was using Juice Defender and No Bars. I've removed both of them and I'm testing things out now. Wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I wasn't. Good theory though.

thought i would post here. i was in a sams club last night and lost all connectivity. no data at all. no 4g/3g symbol at all. as a matter of fact i havent seen a 3g symbol yet. i understand this is still "new" technology. but any tips on how to make it 3g or why i lost data?

When I've lost my data I've tried using the "phone Info" app to try and force 3g. When i chose cdma auto plu all i get is a signal bar and no 3g symbol. Mobile data doesn't do a thing. Can someone help me on this one. I don't get any mobile data.

I have had this same issue got the phone on Friday, charged it up and it worked all day until saturday evening. I had shut it off to do a recharge and when i powered it back on, I had no data (phone and text msgs worked fine).

I tried everything I saw here - toggle Airplane mode, toggle mobile network, took the battery out and nothing brought it back. Finally, I did the factory reset and all my data was back working.

So far it has been up all day.

BTW: this forum is a great resource!

I have two friends with thunderbolts and the same thing happened to both of them. Basically its 4G or nothing, the phones don't get 3G at all anymore. I have had them try battery pulls, airplane mode, and nothing works. It seems to me that something is messed up with the 3G provisioning for these phones. I don't want to tell them to do a hard reset and then have the problem come back a few days later. These device sounds like a POS if something like this can happen just at random. I assume no one has found any fixes other then hard reset?

Here's what I sent my friend because she's having the same issue. Plus 4G isn't by us yet...

No here's what you do. Open the phone dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* . It'll bring up your phone menu. Go to Phone Information. Scroll down to where it says LTE 4G/3G. Click that and then choose the option for CDMA AUTO(PRL). since we don't have 4g by us, its pointless.

...I did it and have been fine.

That doesn't work either as 3G doesn't work at all. Basically doing that forces the phone to only use 3G which doesnt help when 3G doesn't work. Thanks for the idea though. I am reading all over XDA about this happening to lots of people. Hopefully a fix will come soon...

its not just the thunderbolt, my wifes incredible is doing the same thing with 1x and no data now, so it has to be a network issue

The funny thing is, is that my Droid X has always had this issue as well. I figured it was either a) Motorola's software or b) the radio chip.

This is making me think that it is in fact a Verizon tower/network issue.

I just don't understand why it seems to be more widespread on the Thunderbolt vs the Droid X. There are plenty of people that don't even see this issue, on the X. However, I have had it since I first bought the X back in October.

This phone smokes the X, anyway (minus the lack of LED usefullness).

Well everyone. I had enough and decided as a last resort to do a factory restore. Thank goodness after using a back up program and only one hour I was able to get everything back to normal. I am also glad to announce that the network switching seems to be fixed. I have been able to switch from 3g to lte flawlessly both manually and by letting the system do it on its own. This cell phone seems to be a pleasure to use now. Hopefully this has put an end to it all. I'll report back if it messes up again.

I would recommend doing the factory reset as well. I havent had a problem with the network issues everyones mentioning. Could of been a setting maybe some were messing with. The only time I had a problem was I think last week there was a network issue with the phone staying in 1x but later that day everything returned to normal.

Last night I once again tried autoPRL and no roaming data. In the past it did not help. This time it seemed to work. I tried accessing the web this morning and 3G is still working. I don't know if it was me changing things on the TB or VZ did something here locally with the network. If this is working still on Wednesday I will keep the TB, if not back it goes, reluctantly. One thing I noticed last night I was getting constant 3G traffic on the TB so I did a power shutdown and when I turned it back on the constant 3G traffic was gone. Maybe there was some process that was running amock and the power down got rid of it. (fingers crossed)
