[Solved] Nexus 4 won't turn on or charge

My phone progresses (I can get to the boot loader menu) until the four colored balls at the start screen after the Google appears; when it is supposed to turn on my screen goes black and the red lights appear again. I have repeated this algorithm at least 40 times. Is my hardware corrupt?

This did not work for me. Not sure if I left the phone on or not but the bottom line the phone would not turn on. Had a solid red light when trying to charge the battery. Followed numerous threads trying all kinds of things to get the phone to work. Nothing! Saw a thread where someone took the phone apart and tried to charge the battery with wires. Decided to do this. Had the phone apart but could not figure out to exactly where to put the wires and did not want to ruin the phone. My husband has the same phone and got him to agree to let me take his phone apart. Took out his battery and put it in my phone. IT WORKED! Ordered a new battery this morning and just have to be patient. So, the bottom line is maybe the phone just needs a new battery. It is worth the $13.00 I spent on Ebay to confirm this. I was lucky to have another phone to test before spending the money, but $13 is way cheaper than a new phone. The hard part is waiting several days for the new battery.

Wow thank you guys so much i finally got it to turn on buy i did the 15 secs with power+vol down and THEN put in usb cable...it made some weird red led pattern but finally worked !!!

I created an account just to say thank you, my friend.

FYI, it took me 3-4 tries to get this to work. Be patient and keep trying if you have this problem.

I held power/down and it came up w/o plugging it in.

Alright so i can get to the green robot boot menu and the rocker works, but i cant select any option, i will hold the power button down five minutes and nothing. Secondly, I can plug my charger in and if i press the power button right away the phone will show me a battery and it will show me the charging battery for maybe 15 seconds before the phone shuts down.
So i know my phone isnt completely toasted but why the heck cant i select an option using the power button and why will my phone shut off after showing me a charging battery icon for a few seconds. What can I do to get my phone working ?
Also, I have no red light on my phone, its just black, nothing flashing etc , is this a problem too?
Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Thanks for this. It worked for me immediately -- a huge relief.

I held the power and vol-down buttons for 15 seconds then plugged in the wall charger without letting go of the buttons. The LED flashed a couple of times and then the battery symbol appeared to show that charging had started. Pressed and held the power control and the phone booted. No menus or anything, just a normal boot.

I don't why this happened because the phone had just under 10% power when it shut down and that shouldn't have caused a full dead cold shutdown.

Many thanks, the trick worked for me!

My french Nexus 4 was shut down and plugged in before sleep, at about 25% battery. This morning, it was the same issue as everyone: Nexus 4 not powering on and no charging icon. Holding power 60sec while unplugged, then pluging in the cable showed the red light. Holding again the power button showed it charging and revealed that the battery was drained overnight!

This technique saved my Nexus thanks to you and the OP!

This has happened to me the past 2 nights. Thought the first time was just a fluke.
Went to bed with like 30% power. That used to be plenty battery to make it til morning.

WOW.. thanks to Google finding this awesome forum for me. Did the trick.

Still setting up the phone. Waiting for my chip cutter to arrive to get my chip cut to a Micro size to fit in the phone and then I'll be off and running. Weird. I've had this phone for a little over a week. Have it using my wireless for connectivity so I got the OS completely upgraded fully (took about 7 upgrades but got there ) HATE the icons in this last update, hideous but it's updated. Was using one of the remote apps that controls the UE Smart Radio and I liked that it worked so well. Came back to check a couple more things and realized the phone was non responsive. Found this place. At least I know what to do now. WOW... what a horrible bug. Wondering if this is hardware or software issue? If it's software then why hasn't LG sent out a fix for it? Really bad!

Thanks a lot for this post, it solved my problem. I was stuck and was thinking that my mobile battery is drained away. (Nexus 4 has a very weak battery backup)
