Some issues for the ROM developers

I'm currently running 2.1 Option 4 and it runs great but lately i've noticed a few issues. I'm just wondering if these issues can be fixed in the newest ROM? If not thats ok as they're kinda minor.

1. The phone will sometimes go crazy and suck up the battery in less than 1 day even while in standby. I'm guessing the CPU? It gets kinda hot.

2. Sometimes it will not connect to the internet, texts wont go through, or just no service. Turning the phone off and then back on fixes it.

1. Through ADB or a terminal app use this command to see what is using the CPU:

adb shell
top -m 5 -n 1

It will produce the top 5 apps currently running and will display the CPU %. There soudn't be anything above 10% or so. It there is, kill it. You start to see big battery drains with apps running at +50%

To Kill an app: kill -9 PID (insert the PID numbers associated with the app)
A taskkiller will work just as good.

2. If you have data problems like the ones described you can fix it by going into settings -> wireless networks -> toggle mobile network off then back on. It will save you a reboot.

Thanks for the reply, I already have ATK and Astro File manager which also has a process killer. Astro also shows how much cpu and memory usage each process/app is using. None of them are over 10%, the only one thats even close is Android OS. I like ATK because it automatically kills off apps that are not important.

I will try toggling the network on/off next time that happens.

EDIT: While messing with the settings I discovered that the GPS had turned itself back on and was sucking up a lot of CPU usage (over 20%!) so I turned it off. It must have turned itself on after a reboot. >.<

Also option4 was based off a leak it has two apps that have now been taking out gsd, twitter the eat cpu and battery. As for the internet like already said i toggle air plane mode if/when it happens so i don't have to reboot.I haven't had to as much with newer rom.

Beezy help a guy out here.

I keep losing mobile network 2-3 times a day. Granted I toggle airplane mode and it comes right back up. I need a long term solution.

Is there nothing else I can do or try Beezy? help.:(

Which rom? What radio do you got? Have you tried updating profile? Sorry to play 21questions.

Sorry didn't catch this till know (thanks slipdisc) but you don't need ATK to kill things. That's what custom memory management does for you. The choice high/low means the higher it's cranked the more it kills.

I rooted and used the ROM using this method http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...t-htc-hero-root-2-1-installed.html#post147942

I'm not sure how to tell which radio I have.

How do I update my profile?

Sorry if these seem like newbie questions, I have only had an android device for about a week now.

Don't be sorry we all have to learn and in glad to help.
To update profile go to settings>about phone>system updates>update profile.
To tell which radio you have settings>about phone>system information. Baseband version(1.4***is older 2.***is newer. Sounds like your on a stock rom, with root access? You haven't flashed a custom rom right?

Well like I said, I followed the instructions here [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers and its rooted as I have added wifi tether and a couple other root only apps and the superuser app showed up just like in the instructions.

ok, I updated my profile as per your instructions. It took about 20 seconds and said update was complete and settings would be applied.

my baseband version is 2.42.01.04.27

That's the newest radio that I know. I would see if updating the profile helps. Then if no improvement,I would start trying custom roms. Most everything I put up is just about stock. I been running my iced version and it doesn't seem to give me the problem like it did. I'll be honest don't us the friend version, til I get a newer version as I think it would probably give you close to the same results you have now.

Yes the friend version is starting with the internet popups after a few days. Honeybun or Iced worked better there.

So the consensus is that I should wait for another custom rom? And just deal with toggling airplane mode in the meantime?

I would say if the problem keeps happening give Iced a try(nadroid backup before flahsing)
If its worse then restore.
Hopefully I should have improvement soon.

I don't know this if this is helpful, but I've been running the friend version without any internet popups or any other problems.

The last and only problem I did have was phone force closing while overclocking, but ever since I switched over to the kernal provided in that other thread I've had no force closes, no wifi tether problems.

So mebbe the friend version just works best while using OC (and I stick at 710 max, anything more is unstable for me), and specifically the OC kernal provided in the force close thread.
