Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

I don't think I really want stock EB05. The announcement doesn't really do anything for me.
Give me the deodexed EXT4 version with Sprint ID removed. When I see that coming I'll get excited.

Well, tired of waiting for the manual updates to show up on Samies site. So, I'm trying an experiment. Flashed back to stock EB13, rooted with RFS filesystem. Not going to touch my phone, except to make calls, for the next few days to see if I get the update OTA. I do have a question, if I do miraculously get the OTA update, is there any way I can capture the update if it comes in an update.zip format before it begins the update process on my phone?
Since I'm rooted, maybe I can stop the update after the update has been downloaded and then grab the file some how? Anyone know if this is possible?

Its been asked a few times in the thread already - no, this is not possible. :(

i kind of doubt that it will be in the open site sincee this is such a carrier specific update, the major thing they are touting is the sprint ID, then again not everyone got EB13 so there MIGHT be a chance they do put it up, i dunno, at this point i dont know what to expect. i just sit and wait till it eventually comes out, for us that have EB13 we just see it as a patch job but for the ones that are still on eclair, it'll be a little more significant

According to XDA dev,the update is downloaded then you are given the notice to update. Choose to install at a later time and go into your "/cache/" folder on your sdcard and the update.zip will be in there. ;)

Whoever gets this first and gets it out for everyone will be a hero! Basically, if your attempting this you will need to upload the update.zip to a file hosting service... Multiupload.com or equivalent.

Actually I thought this was possible? Can't you choose not to update now and then go into file explorer and grab it? Didn't they get EB13 this way?

I would assume you have to accept the update for the download to begin. Its a 80-90 meg something file going off previous update.zip's.

Whoever does receive it, check it out and take a look.

Froyo EB13's, update.zip was released by Sammy on their opensource.samsung.com site.

this is the most boring update ever. i wonder if they are doing the people who did not get the first update first.

Just got off the phone with sprint (only the 2nd time ever talking to them via phone). I of course asked where my up date was. I was told they were rolling it out very slowly (lesson learned from EB13). Probably less than 15% by tonight. If there are few issues, huge rollout overnight tonight through friday morning.

How true this is, I can't say. The girl on the phone sounded exasperated. Like she has answered the question a hundred times.

So they are beta testing it by dribbling it out slowly and waiting to see if Mark's and others phones catch fire?

Didn't the original document say it was to be 100% rolled out by tomorrow?

No, they said 100% within 4 days, thus if you figure they start at just after midnight on Monday (i.e. Tuesday morning), then by Friday night, they should be 100%.

Yeah, I was just going to edit my post. I looked up the original post from Sprint and counted the days again...

Guess we'll have to keep waiting.

I'm quite happy with EB13 with the exception that the stock Browser and Voice Dialing force close on me every time. They are completely unusable.

I'm sure that a hard reset would fix this, but I'm not sure how easy it is to restore all my apps and settings since I'm still fairly new to the OS.

U would think SOMEONE would have gotten it by now no??

So far we have 1 guy who got it and posted a pic as proof early in this thread and another guy who says his son got it. Thats all that i recall from this thread.
