Sprint's LG G2: Official KitKat info - Candy coated goodness.

Re: Sprint's LG G2: Official KitKat info - The Rumors, Conjecture and Hearsay thread.

Don't want to throw any gas on the fire, but... What makes everyone think that Sprint will release KitKat to the LG G2 by the end of first quarter? As I recall, it was LG that stated that they would release KitKat for the LG G2 by the end of first quarter, which they did... Early, in fact. But I don't see how that obligates Sprint in any way to release the update on any timeline. We all know Sprint's marketing phrase, "There's nothing that can be done in a short time, that can't be done just as well in a long time"

I am eager to have my phone improved, like everyone else, and had a hard time believing that LG would release such a fantastic phone with JellyBean... I know the KitKat update will improve on already great performance, by a few milliseconds here and there, but I don't think it's going to cover any of the items on my wish list anywway... Those are GoogleWallet touch to pay, Knock Code, or better performance from the camera (beyond a faster startup).

What is it that everyone is hoping to gain from KitKat if/when Sprint does ever release it?

Just curious...

I want a better battery, even quicker processor response time, Knock Code (which may or may not come with this update...it did for Canada), a faster camera, a faster gallery, and Kathy Ireland. I want my "Flagship" phone to have the most up to date "Flagship" firmware. I also want to be able to root my phone again. I unrooted and went back to stock in anticipation of this update and want it back.
Also, I was told by two different representatives from Sprint (I bought two G2's at different times) that KitKat 4.4.2 would be released by the end of the first quarter (which is Monday). Also, if you look at the Sprint message board (and all 4,324 threads devoted to the subject) you will see that every representative has said it's already released, not released, will never be released, or they are waiting on Android 5.0....solid evidence to the point!

For me, it's the newest features in apps that aren't available in 4.2.

Why would you think that Sprint wouldn't release it?

Again... Released by whom? First off... The people you spoke with would not actually know... Only those at corporate would actually know, and would not know until they have the firmware in hand from LG, which only happened recently. Again, it was LG that stated "by end of first quarter" which Sprint people were merely repeating. Now... Sprint is seriously dropping the ball here, as everyone else has already loaded up their version of the firmware with their own bloatware, and released... Why is Sprint so slow on this? Probably because they have bigger fish to fry, and their customers don't like them anyway... So why rush.

My point, again, is that I have seen no actual written commitment from Sprint to update the G2 by end of quarter, and this being Friday, and Monday being the last day of the quarter, it's probably *not* coming before then. If it does, GREAT, you an I will BOTH be thrilled. But I am not holding my breath. Could be weeks, for all we know. You can call Sprint Customer Care and ask if you like, but they cannot tell you the truth about it, because they don't know either.

I am certain the WILL release it... But not before the end of this month. I am just hoping to have it by the end of NEXT month. But I LOVE surprises, so I have fingers crossed for anything earlier.

I did ask them to email the letter they said they got from LG saying that. Funny how they never did.

I wonder if they'd ever release an update over the weekend. Probably not since they'll be flooded with calls about people not knowing what to do, but as the 5pm hour comes closer it's not looking good till Monday.

Maybe they didn't have a good signal and sent it snail mail.

I'll never get it then, the USPS has issues with delivering my mail because they can't count.

I've got updates over the weekend before.

I do admit I would love it if we got Knock Code with KitKat. That would be worth the wait.

Thank you for proving my point! I don't believe that they actually have any way of knowing when an update is coming. They are not even the same city, or probably even the same country, as where the update actually originates from.

I would still like to see it before the end of Monday. But nothing will convince me that it's on the way sooner than later, until the update is actually ON my phone.

Then, there is the issue of stability on the new version. Will it be more stable? Actually, my current firmware is rock solid... so the bigger worry is... what's it going to break? And again, other than shaving off a few milliseconds here and there (the video was kind of a joke, really...) I don't see any huge improvement, nor am I aware of any new features. The biggest selling point of the new firmware that I am aware of is that I can tell everyone that is drooling over the M8, because it has KitKat... I can smile and say, "yeah... I have that too!" I mean, in the end, it's embarrassing enough that my phone has NFC AND Google Wallet, but I can't touch pay... But I also have to admit that my new-ish, flagship phone from LG has a firmware that is 2 versions back... The new firmware would allow me to save face, and justify WHY I got the G2 instead of the Nexus. :)

But... I really do love this phone... Even if it was outdated right from the production line.

LOL! Sprint customer care just told me that it is starting to be pushed out now! And that customers have already been receiving it. And that I'm in the queue to be getting it soon. Ooooookkkkaaay! With all of the LG G2 owners on here I'm pretty sure that if it had started we would know. Because somebody would have bragged about getting it on their phone by now. Sooooo...RAZZBERRY.

They are definitely NOT from the USA. Most of the time it's Asia. And they can hardly speak English. The first rep I spoke to asked me if I had deleted the files from my phone. I started laughing. Yeah, I know that it probably made her hangup on me buy it was just so funny.

Same here. I thought that wasn't any queues for updates. At least I didn't laugh out loud. Just thank them and ended the call. Then I laughed.

There is no way they have released it. I'm pretty sure you're "FrustratedinEdwardsville" (if I'm wrong, sorry) and you know what's been going on in the Sprint Forums. It's been a full blow attack...if even one person has received it either SprintCare or a fellow board member would have posted it....if for no other reason than to shut the rest of us up.

I'm pretty sure he his too. I'm just amazed at the dumb comments that the SprintCare reps have made there. It's hard to be nice and professional when they are so dumb. And that's my nice comments.

You're a real sweetheart because I've had other choice words for them and their hypocrisy. They say one thing, then another, and then yet another. I don't get why if they don't have an answer to something they simply don't say "I don't know", "Stop Bugging Me", or "I'm a Low Level - No Nothing and I'm Kept out of the Loop of Every Company Decision"....It would be so much easier for them.
