I'd like to know if the people having issues did the update.zip way or not?

I'm not-rooted, and did the update.zip

GPS was instant lock-on.
Exchange support is rocking (no problems sending emails, to include attachments)
Calendars are working for me.
Spent a bit of time with the Apps2SD app to move items over to SD.

The only big issue I've had is that I had to reformat my SD card. I had a backup made on my PC just before install. Still, I lost any files I downloaded from the Zedge app. My favs are saved so re-downloading isn't an issue.

All the froyo features seem intact EXCEPT threaded call logs. Which is one I was looking forward to (miss it from my Pre).

Ok, I updated my Epic by putting update.zip on the sd card. Everything went great, no issues there. However is anyone else noticing that the android keyboard no longer has any "smarts". It just types the letters I press and the autocorrect is essentially useless now! What gives? Did I do something wrong?

Besides the calendar issue I have noticed the following...

* Browser force closes when I try to scroll up/down with my finger (disregard, must have been a hiccup, browser works fine now).
* Contact pictures from Facebook will not display on the text messaging app, even when they have been selected as the default caller ID picture in the contacts app.

Anyone else notice these?

camera completely fails now. Cannot operate. Help.

updated via windows installer, and then rooted via 1click.

I followed the directions to install it using Windows and it did not work..my phone its totally wiped out and I am gonna have to bring it in to Sprint tomorrow... I have been here all night trying to re install the original version and NO luck... it seemed easy enough but when downloading into the phone it didnt go past 60% and the screen went orange! ... Anyone ? well if anyone can help please let me know... Thanks

And this is why I am waiting for the ota. Sprint could very well say that they are blameless as you didn't use their approved ota. They could tell you to call samsung as it was their update that messed up your phone.

Now I'm not saying it will happen, just that I can see it happening.

I do wish you the very best and hope it goes well for you.

This says you have to have "stock DI18". I have stock DG17. I tried updating this way and got and error message and the update was aborted. How can I have a different version of "stock" v2.1?
*edit - I am referring to the update.zip method.

i am not sure but there are directions under the Roms/Hacks thread at the top under Epic forum. I think it is the first sticky that may have the information you need to go to the latest 2.1 so that you can go to the new 2.2

I am actually wondering that now that my phone is pretty much wiped.. would the 2.1 have to be installed back before updating it or will it be able to install the New version???

Alright everyone, this is to the ones that are on the dk28 and may be rooted or even have a custom rom. Just like Paul said, you can download the windows installer (200 or so mb) find the .tar file as mentioned in the first post, and download odin from the "[How To] Root Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13" forum. Then you use the .tar file to update. It will over ride your current dk28 and replace it with the new EB13, and that is it. Read the instructions on the previous link if you need to know how to use Odin. It will erase all of your data so please back up using mybackup from the market or titanium backup. After this you can use Ragnarox's onerootinstall method to root. It worked like a charm for me, I will update if I have any issues. Great News!!!!!

I've only had the phone a couple weeks. Didn't realize I was still running the original version of 2.1 installed on the phone and it won't recognize the other updates that came out so I'm going to have to manually install the newer version(s). Since it always said I had the most current version, I assumed 2.1 was 2.1.

Goto the link from the first post called [How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) under "helpful links". Follow the instructions to do the factory restore with Odin and it will flash you from your earlier version of Eclair 2.1 up to the most current version. Then you can do as you please from there.
