I am trying to do the manual update but am getting the following error message: E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Instillation aborted.

Please Help!!!!

You must place the "update.zip" as is, no changing the filename in the root directory of your sd card.

People ask what is the root directory? Simply put if your using Windows and you plug in your phone via cable and select mass storage. Example say the phone shows as "drive F:" when you goto open "drive F:" to view its contents, the first directory that opens when you select "drive F:" that is your root directory. Place the update.zip file there.

When you goto boot into recovery mod to select the "apply sdcard: update.zip" function it should then find the file and start the upgrade.

Hey I am just now getting an Epic 4G, its coming in the mail tomorrow. So are you guys saying if I do the manual update before I do anything else fresh out of the box? I know I need to activate it still. So are you saying if I do this manual update before adding my gmail account or contacts or any apps I should avoid any issues, is that right?

You really shouldn't have any worries either way with your device. There has been a few issues but most of them have a work around to resolve them. Any problems we are here to help you out.

Update to 2.2 Question.

I just recently got my epic 4G. Notice it's still on 2.1 update.

Has 2.2 been released? i been looking for it.

If so, how do i update my device for it.

Go to the first post in the thread below. There are 3 methods available for you to update to official Froyo EB13 even after Sprint/Sammy suspended the OTA update because of some bugs they wish to fix. All the info you need is in this thread.

Thanks, but i'm still confused.

If i download this will my phone be bugged ?

everyone seems to be bugged with 2.2?

Thanks, but will my phone be bugged if i update it.

Everyone seems to be having problems when they get 2.2?

Is that the OFFICIAL 2.2 update?

The bug is in the kernel with Camera Sports mode and low light video recording. If you don't use camera sports mode and don't make videos by candle light, you should have no issues with it. The screen unresponsiveness issue is related to the Camera sports mode force close. A reboot fixes the screen problem.

A hard reset after 2.2.1 install fixes most issues people seem to have with it.....

You can download the update from a site that has the 98 meg update zip to your card, then move the update zip file to the card root directory. Then boot into recovery mode and flash the file. Then follow that with a hard reset. Backup your data prior to the Froyo install and hard reset. No root required to install the Froyo update......

I'm planning on updating to EB13 and flashing the Camera fix all in Odin today when I get off work. (No later than 5pm EST)

I am going to follow the instructions for the EB13 update step by step.

Was wondering though, are there any other special boxes I need to tick (untick) for the Camera fix kernel flash in Odin (other PDA and Auto Re-boot of course)?

(I posted this ? in the rooting threads at noon today and there was no response , so I thought I'd try here, as well) Any help greatly appreciated.

If your doing the all in one Odin method which gives you EB13 prerooted/CWM/EXT4 or RFS (depending on which you choose) just follow the directions. I would recommend using the Twilight Zone kernel v1.0.1 from ACS/Syndicate. That has your overclock/undervolt, camera fix and keyboard lag fix all in one kernel.

The kernel will be flashed separately by you after you perform the Odin procedure..

Thank you for the reply and for the recommendation. I wasn't planning on doing the "all in one Odin meth". So, now I'll do a little more re-reading on that piece and go from there. Will provide an update on progress this evening. Thanks again.

About the "all in one meth" - where is the .pit file? when I went to the link to DL, there was ONLY a .rar file. Did I miss something?
Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6

Instructions:
Step 1. Boot your phone into download by powering off your phone holding 1 on the keyboard and holding power til you see the little Yellow digger.
Step 2. On your computer launch the included odin.exe and select the included EB13-ext4.pit and under PDA select the included EB13-Extended-3.tar
Step 3. Plug in the usb cable.(if it's done right you should see a yellow Com device.)
Step 4. Tick Repartition
Step 4. Click Start and wait.

Hullo, I'm very new to this and I am not very savy with computer/ android lingo...I'm tryin to download the "update.zip" file and it redirects me to another site called multiupload. From there I can choose from more than one engine to download but they are all "rs_n5ibjyo1x4". Is this the right site? And download?

Ok....For my Epic 4G I'm not sure which route to take. I have downloaded the update zip to my computer, just waiting to transfer to my SD card. I've been reading through other post and seen that upgrading might mess up my camera setting and who else knows what. To everyone that has did the upgrade from 2.1update1 to froyo 2.2 was it worth it and what's your opinion, if I should do it or not???? Thanks!!!

having problems installing manual updates. in recovery mode hitting the home key will not select. it just goes black and when hit again goes back to prev screen. clicking the camera button does select.

i would get an error install. "Error in sdcard" install would abort.

I am still confused about the Over The Air (OTA) Update for 2.2. I seemed to have missed the window for updating OTA. Is there a ETA for it to be back on OTA download? Tks, David

Ok. I need help big time. I turned off the phone. Removed the SD card. Booted into Download mode. Opened Odin. Connected Phone to USB. (Odin showed 'added' and the yellow Com box). Un-checked "F reset time" (as on page 3 of this thread, it said only "Auto Reboot needs to be checked") Selected the EB13-Extended-3 file under PDA and made sure the PDA box was ticked. Clicked Start...THEN

Pretty much as soon as I tried to load the EB13-Extended-3 file, it failed.

I hit "Reset" in Odin and the Yellow light is still lit but the word "added" is gone. I hit start and now it just says "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)"

The phone is still plugged in to Odin and I am afraid to unplug it, although I'm sure it has been over 5 mins.

Somebody, please please advise. (also posted in another thread in Rooting Section)

Ok. I just unplugged it from Odin and took the battery out (could not get past the Yellow digger) and put it back it and now it shows a cell phone, an orange exclamation point, and a computer on a black screen)

Please help.

Does anyone know how I get back to a normal looking screen?

Hey Paul, I tried the windows installer method and had the camera problem, so I used the Odin method to put Eclair back on. Any suggestions on what to try next?
