Strange. Heart rate suddenly freezing up

I have done two resets and on the current firmware. Everything was working well now suddenly my heart rate monitor keeps freezing around 115-119. I check it with my pressure cuff and it's in the low 50s. That is aroynf my normal resting rate. It does seem to be right after charging and turning it off and on fixes it. Others reported this prior to the update by it had only happened to me once or twice prior. It's odd it has started now. I haven't installed anything new. Very weird.

I have mine on constant tracking. Most of the day, it's fine, but occasionally it stops tracking. I can usually restart it by going into HR settings, changing to frequent, hitting 'measure' to take a reading, and then changing it back to constant. The HR system software on this watch is poor. There is nothing wrong with the hardware - on most watches.
So I'm not sure if what you are seeing is something similar to me or if it's something that's happening at that particular range (115 to 119). If the latter then I'm not sure what could be causing it. It might well settle down again? I would doubt that the sensor itself is faulty although obviously it's a possibility. It's more likely the software playing up but why it was fine previously and now it isn't, your guess is as good as mine.

I too think it's the software. I will try your method. On the previous firmware I woke up one night and it said my heart rate was 149. I grabbed my cuff and it was only 48. I have always had low rates and meds lower it a hair more. But when it has gone high I have been hospitalized because it is racing. It is usually a lack of something in my blood and IV fixes me up. So HR monitoring is sort of important.

I actually may have glitched things myself. I woke up a few nights back and my watch was lit up saying it was waiting for connection to update. I checked on my phone and there was no update. I think I managed to bump things into the boot menu while sleeping. I had to power down despite it telling me not to. Shortly after this my issues started. I may just reboot after each charge until the next update and see if that cures it.

That's weird, you've had that before, haven't you, where it seems you've got an update, but haven't. Have you done a full reset since? Probably worth doing if you haven't.
Generally, it's definitely a good idea to power off the watch frequently; I'd say daily. I do this every night and then I charge it, powered off overnight. It has always run smoothly that way. But I know you have a health reason to keep it on while sleeping. So maybe get into the habit of powering it off when you do charge, or failing that, just power off and back on again once per day.
I hope it settles down. False high readings must be a bit scary. Lucky you have your cuff with you to confirm. Unfortunately Samsung have a long way to go before they are at Apple's level with certified EKG on the Apple Watch 4.

Ya. A long way to go. If they made apple watches that worked with Android I would have one but I hat iPhone. Ya this is the second time I have had the update thing happen. Each time at night. I did a full reset after each one. I can be restless if in pain or numb when sleeping. I have woke up with various screens on the watch. I am not sure if I do something or not. I have never turned it off in my sleep. It is weird.

I would miss the plus points of Galaxy Watch, but for medical standard HR monitoring, I would have to agree about the Apple. It's a shame that Samsung can't produce decent software for the tracking features of what is, technically, an excellent watch. We've had these conversations before of course! And the software update is an improvement - but *only* an improvement, not a fix.
Anyway, good luck and keep us posted. Hopefully you'll come across something that gets you running as smoothly as possible.

Hi Sonnnet and Greymire...it seems that we have a long way until these issues are resolved and it is a pitty for such a beautiful watch...Anw I came accross the following in Youtube and I actually made the mentioned changes in settings, however I have not tried it yet during workout since I have my hpm settings to manual when I want to and only always hpm on, during running. Have you seen this or tried it? I don't know whether this will be helpful

I ran across a heart rate graphic app on the store that seems to work very nice. No widget and it is probably not something you always want on but next time I get a freeze I want to see if it is still working. I probably won't get one now. Ha ha. I will check out the video above also

The settings in the video are the same Sonnnet recommended prior I think. I did set them that way though. I had not had to touch them before. Hopefully it doesn't affect battery that much.

Yes, that's the setting I mentioned a while ago. Turns out it was a red herring. It won't make any improvement in HR tracking (although that is claimed by the video). As @Greymire said at the time, I think, it's actually a setting regarding sensors when Power Save mode is engaged. So, actually I would leave the setting in the default 'on' position after all. There's the possibility that turning it off might give you slightly longer running time if you are low on juice and power saving is engaged, but it's probably minimal and Power Saving does a great job here anyway.

I haven't had the same problem as @Greymire. I have had the same problem as @sonnnet, and could only fix it by taking a measurement in frequent mode. Really lame, especially given how good the hardware is.

I wonder what the customization sensor is for as well as the location sensor under customization? I turned them on just to see what, if anything happens. They may just drain battery but we will see.

I think customisation service is just a fancy way of saying 'tips and hints'. You know the suggestions that pop up when you've first bought the watch. You've probably seen them again after your factory resets.
So sensors in relation to this will probably enable things like 'wear the watch tighter above the wrist bone', for HR etc.

Oops sorry Sonnnet, It seems that I did not get you earlier post right 😯

It was me that got it wrong, Kko. I thought I had stumbled across something that would improve HR tracking, but it turns out it was unrelated.

Sonnnet, it is very clear that unfortunately it is Samsung that got it wrong from the beginning.

The program Heart Rate Graphic in the store seems to work well but it needs a widget.

Looks interesting. "Reinitialisation of the pulse sensor when sticking" (as stated in the description) is the much needed feature it seems to have.

After a couple resets mine seems fine again. Weird. It may have been watch faces.
