Stupid curved screen

because it's a Note. I'm glad it's not as curved as the S8. Just seems like a pointless visual effect.
I like it's aesthetics. The curved effect is what drew me to the s6 edge....s7 edge....note 7....note 8! Each to their own but if you liked chev and they brought out a really ugly model with a square steering wheel - you'd buy it because it was a chev??

I
How so? Isn't the infinity display just their marketing jargon for their 18.5:9 aspect ratio?

Nope. The infinity display is the jargon for bezel-less. As in infinity pool, where supposedly the edge of the screen lies perfect with the horizon. No that it actually is bezel-less.

Note 8 is pure screen porn but some people don't like porn and that's fine ;-)

And then have scratches on that? and have to replace it all the time because of the design of the phone causes it to get scratched or broken easily?

Whitestone Dome glass does not get scratches...

I don't use a screen protector and don't have a single tiny scratch. Maybe you should just treat an expensive device the way it deserves...

fewer and fewer top notch models lack some sort of curve. i hate curves too

They absolutely have the right to vent their frustration and I honestly didn't look at the situation from the pov that the op was trying to compromise.that's a great point. It just seems like it's a huge enough issue to where they are really unhappy with the choice they made. It's one thing to get the phone, try it out, return it, and then complain , but to buy it, try it, decide to keep it even though you still aren't happy , and then complain just doesn't make sense to me. After a week of trying to compromise if I'm not happy whatever it is goes back, but I get that we all aren't the same and deal with things differently.

I totally agree with your last statement. People do that a lot and it's super annoying.
There really is no comparable alternative to the Note series.

When another phone comes out with these specs and an SPen with a flat screen I'll get that one. But for now I have this one, which I love.. I just hate the design choice and trend of curved screens in phones lately. It serves no purpose and makes the phones less durable.
I wish LG made Stylo the flagship and gave it better specs

But the Stylo on the LG isn't even remotely close to the SPen in capabilities.
Which is why I want them to make it the flagship and put some work into it. Just a cheap second tier model now so of course it doesn't compare.

Nope. It's not the specs. I'm referring to the stylus itself. I couldn't care less if the specs were top notch as long as the stylus has WACOM level accuracy which it does not, mainly because WACOM makes the SPen and Samsung is part owner of WACOM.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab A with the SPen is firmly in the mid range price, but it has an actual SPen. So the argument that the Stylo is mid range but doesn't have the SPen level stylus isn't a good one.

Doubt it will change if they make it higher end. Basically just a V30 with a stylus slot, with the stylus the same accuracy as a thin one you can buy in ebay.

Having a smartphone is like having a partner, you like the way they look but there always are a few things you wish were different. So you either learn to appreciate them for all the good things they bring or leave them and move on to another. Life is as complicated or as simple as you make it.

Can't separate one from the other. The reason the stylus sucks is the phone sucks. They didn't put the engineering into ANYTHING in the stylo. That said I don't care about most of the spen features. I want it to write, point, and highlight text.

It is nothing like a V30

No. I'm saying a high end LG Stylo would be no different from a v30 with a pen. Give the v30 the pen from an LG Stylo and it still won't be close to what the Note can do. The stylus on a LG Stylo just a standard rubber tipped on. No different from what you can buy anywhere.

No, if stylo were the flagship the stylus would be a selling point and it would have more features and be better than Samsung

How can you say it will be better than Samsung if it's all conceptual in your head? Not even Apple is able to make anything better than the SPen because it's patented tech, and Samsung owns the company that builds said tech. The only things that can come close to an SPen is an Active Stylus like the Apple Pen, but since that needs a battery, it can't fit into the device.

The Note 8 screen emits an electromagnetic field that serves as the power source for the SPen. And its patented by Samsung. So anybody else making an Spen like stylus would have to pay Samsung a price they dictate, which they could artificially skyrocket to make any competitor even more overpriced than a Note. The screen on the iPhone X for example is fully 1/3 of its production cost, driving price up.

That's the reason why no one yet has able to make a decent S Pen competitor is the monopoly of Samsung on said tech, and the fact that they own practically every patent for a built in stylus. Patent for a built in stylus with a speaker? Samsung patent. Stylus with breathalyzer? Patented. Phone case with Spen slot? Patented. Built in Stylus that can double as a stand? Patented. Heck even a light saber sound as you pull out an S Pen is patented.

I was being sarcastic. You cannot argue WHAT Stylo pen would be IF it were the flagship of LG. Saying it would be a v30 with a do nothing stylus is silly. LG engineers are as capable as Sammy and if they valued the Stylo pen they could improve it and add features we have never even imagined. The fact is the Stylo is a second tier phone and they put as little into it as possible.

No. I'm arguing that making a Stylo flagship with S Pen like features would either make it unnecessarily expensive due to Samsung patents, or it will be an Active Stylus which cannot fit into the device. You'll have the option of a >1000USD LG v30 specced Note competitor with inbuilt stylus, or the current v30 with special stylus software and an accompanying active stylus that won't have a device slot.

The price of that would turn people to the Note still, or the fact that the stylus would be separate can be a turn off. LG doesn't have the clout that Apple and Samsung has to dare launch a 1000USD phone yet. As such it will be a bad investment for them.

I'd pay more for the flat screen.

You are but one customer. You alone can't count. Overall it would be a bad investment for LG. Because while you would pay more for the flat screen and some like you, there will be those who won't see that as something worth 200USD more. Maybe in the future, especially since the Note will be hitting the 10 year mark soon and some of the older patents expire, maybe we'll see Note competitors.

You're basically arguing an opinion other than yours is meaningless because you know what people want. There are plenty of serious note users who prefer flat screen. Note has lost its no nonsense business appeal and is now appealing to teenage girls who want to send lovie active notes to their bf's. See the commercials. My Note is gone. Now it is a toy
