Success returning the phone?

They'll keep some for warranty replacement. If there's a lot more, they'll probably sell them in foreign markets.

I opened mine, will play with it for the weekend and request a return on Wednesday which is my 15th day.

What will Essential do with all of these returned phones? Will they touch them up and use them as "like new" or refurbished replacement devices?
Since the return label is being shipped back to assurion, I'm sure they will use these as insurance replacement, exchanges etc.

I received my return box yesterday and sent the unit back today
Was yours a physical box or a soft fedex bubble wrap package? My concern is the piece of paper says I'll receive a repaired device in 5 days! I don't want a repaired device. I want a refund. And Essential customer support has not responded to my email after telling them I want to return the device...

Also, did anyone try to keep the charger ? I like it and don't want to return it....!
I tried buying a spare charger, cable and headphone adapter myself. They aren't making extras at this time. I hate to say it buy you'll probably have to return yours as a complete package or they likely won't accept it.

Copy that.
So, basically put the 360 camera in original box, and the phone in original box with all accessories, and ship it back, despite the paper saying Essential will ship me a replacement device?
Kinda makes me nervous, ya know?

I don't know what Essential told you to return. You originally asked if anyone tried to keep the charger. If they're sending you only a replacement phone then obviously keep everything. But, I don't know what they've told you to return and what they've told you (if anything) to keep.

It's best to call or email them directly since your situation is more complicated than whether or not you can keep the charger. ;)

They have had my phone since the 8th and still nothing, they said 10 days and they meant it. Essential really likes holing money that's not theirs, I just want my money so I can be done with this dumpster fire

Update: Finally got an email that they approved the return. The money will be refunded in 7-10 days, so almost a month for a refund.

not sure what Essential needs to approve. if you send them the phone and they do not approve the return i assume they send it back to you. just refuse delivery from Essential and contact your credit card company.

I got my return envelope today... I swear every time I talk myself into keeping this phone, I find more physical damage on it. I baby the hell out of my devices and I've sold probably 70 some devices on swappa in mint condition with the rare exception being a small scratch here or there from my wife using a phone. I've damaged this phone more in the 5 days I used it than my last 15 phones combined.

Even today while packaging up the phone I thought "well maybe I will re-purchase it when a case is available. Then I look down and see that the paint on the titanium is scratched near the charging port from the charger going in... I mean.. why use titanium if you're going to put a crappy paint on top that scratches so easily. 5 days of normal use..GENTLE use and the back is scratched up... there's a scratch on the side and small scratches by the charging port. Unacceptable to me.. and it sucks because I otherwise love the phone but I'm super anal about scratches.

The phone doesn't process any faster or slower due to scratches. I do agree that it affects resale value . . .

Four possibilities here... 1) you received a defective device that somehow wasn't prepped correctly and the surfaces are damaging easier than normal, 2) someone else is damaging your phone when you aren't looking, 3) your device is suicidal and damaging itself, or 4) you're harder on it than you realize.

Can you post pics? I'm curious what the coating on the titanium looks like. If it's PVD and your frame somehow wasn't clean from machining then it could be abnormally prone to scratching or flaking off. But, it's normally quite strong. Mill cutting tools are PVD coated with titanium based non-stick coatings and withstand pressure and heat without a problem.

Kinda hard to get a good pic of these because of the reflection but here goes. The nick on the side I can attribute to a hard bump maybe...although to my knowledge something like that never happened. The scratching up from the charging though is just unacceptable after a week of use.

Interesting. Maybe it's a PVD coating after all. That scratching is odd. I missed my port a couple times but haven't scratched it yet. My frame is still mint.

Yeah I really don't get it.. I've had a ton of phones and I freak out if I happen to get one accidental scratch.. I'm suuuper anal about babying my phones. I'm still leaning towards the essential though.. I'm just debating on letting the return go through and buying maybe a white one later on or waiting for some more cases to be available or just having them send me a replacement instead. Still going back and forth between this and the Mi Mix 2 but I kinda really don't want to deal with MIUI again and I feel like the essential will eventually have more cases but he mix will always be super limited.

Yeah, that definitely sucks. I prefer not having scratches if possible. My watch is quite scratched and that doesn't bother me. My phone might.

Not sure what to suggest on keeping vs returning. I'm sold on bare Android, the size and build quality. It's definitely not for everyone though. We have dozens of good options now. Mine is a keeper. I don't give much weight to reviews if my own experience is different. So far my phone has been surprisingly solid.

After making my last post I ended up emailing essential back and told them to just send me a replacement instead of a refund. I really do love everything about the phone and I never had any software issues from day one. I also value having a phone that is unique... which kinda puts me off the note 8 or v30 as I'll see a ton of those at work. The white list workaround is what really won me over because that was my last annoyance software wise, once the phone gets root I'll be money.

I'm just going to have to really baby the hell out of this new one though.
